80 ThoreauThoreau-ly wonderful! We've eaten here before, but this time 80 Thoreau really outdid itself. Crabcake app was simply the best I've ever eaten, beautifully complemented by a lovely pea-puree based sauce. Two of us ordered simple salads to start (what a waste, I thought; why not something more unusual?). Well, they are still raving about them. (The chef revealed that the "secret" dressing ingredient was... No, go ask her yourself.) Seared gnocchi were still great (new sauce, same gnocchi). Excellent entrees: bluefish obviously very fresh; chicken perfectly cooked (two ways), with lots of morels (!). We sampled the full panoply of desserts; each was really superb. House-made sorbets and ice creams: all wonderful. Service: friendly and professional. A great meal!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways GoodDined her many times and expectation are always met or exceeded.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNew menu items a big hit!Had an enjoyable dinner with friends at 80 Thoreau and tried some of the new offerings on the menu. I had the crab cake and it melted in my mouth, yet was intensely flavorful and rich. Reminded me of 21 Club's crab cake of old. My friends tried the gnocchi with nettles and the white bean soup--all received very well. We polished off the chicken, pappardelle, and beef. We had a great time and the service was impeccable as well. Still have thoughts about the crab cake and will go back real soon.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a first visit forThis was a first visit for us to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food was incredible, the service impeccable. We will definately at this to our list of favorites. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. I'm glad a place like this exists outside of Boston. We will be back!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVisited in a party of 6, forVisited in a party of 6, for a friend's birthday... The service was slower than what I was used to when dining alone, but the staff and the atmosphere was enjoyable as usual. The food was good- nothing surprising, but nothing disappointing either. The lamb main dish was a bit smaller than other menus of similar price, but was cooked tenderly. The duck confit on the bar menu was a bit salty and chewy but very savory with barley. It was enjoyable.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, nice ambiance!I went to 80 Thoreau on a Monday night with three friends. Overall, the food, ambiance and service was fantastic. We all enjoyed our dishes immensely, including the 80 Thoreau "classics" of gnocchi with morels and grilled lamb with turnovers. My friend also ordered the chicken and was pleasantly surprised at how generous the portion was. I was delighted by my paparadelle. The desserts were fun and unique. Ambiance was lovely--we were pleased to see how full it was even late on a Monday night. The bill was very reasonable too given the quality of the dishes. We will definitely be back!!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally a restaurant in theFinally a restaurant in the suburbs you can go to and you know you will love everything you order. Not so expensive that you save it for only special occasions.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful birthdayWe had a wonderful birthday meal and everything was delicious. The service really stood out and the prices weren't out of line for a meal of this quality. Highly recommend for a romantic evening. Hope to be back again.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great. Comfortable,Consistently great. Comfortable, relaxed, , subtle fresh flavors, unpretentious presentation, top-notch, always looking forward to next visit to 80 Thoreau.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMbest suburban dining experiencebest suburban dining experience in a very long time4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience butGreat dining experience but since we go frequently we'd like to see more variety in the menu.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food! Warm Atmosphere! We have become regulars here. We enjoy everything on both the dining room and bar menus.
Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMScallop appetizer was veryScallop appetizer was very salty, but apart from that everyone thought the food was excellent and we will go back.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA great neighborhood restaurant,A great neighborhood restaurant, no need to go to Boston to get a good meal with good service and and a reasonable wine list. The food is always very good and the service is excellent. Only suggestion would be to add or change the menu at least a little bit so us REGULARS have some more or different choices.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWent twice last week! FirstWent twice last week! First time was so good, had to go back for more. Terrific both times. Their papardelle is a dream, but it's not all super-high end...their hamburger is the best anywhere. Just love this place.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMake room in your scheduleMake room in your schedule for 80 Thoreau while the veal is still on the menu; it's super-good. Get there early and have a drink at the bar; the man behind the counter really knows how to whip up a good drink (or three). I have to struggle to come up with an area for improvement: but our coffees came out about 10 minutes after dessert but it hardly ruined the experience.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem In Concord, MAFrom the moment we walked in we realized that we were in for a treat. The decor is soft and subtle. Our waiter was very attentive and food knowledgeable. The menu is impressive with just 5 or 6 Starters and 7 or 8 Entrees. So you know that this kitchen is devoted to food preparation and quality.
For Starters, we had the Venison Terrine and the Crisp Gnocchi. Beautifully plated and delicious!!!
For Entrees, we had the Grilled Veal Porterhouse and the Pan Roasted Beef Hanger Steak. These two dishes were to die for!!!
For Dessert, we had the Brown Butter Chocolate Pavé and the Caramelized Banana Ice Cream. A wonderful finish to a great anniversary dinner.
This restaurant is a must if you love good food.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable and excellent food!We went on a double-date with friends and all four of us really enjoyed the experience! Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. The food was very well-presented and excellent. We would definitely go back!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative dishes of very highCreative dishes of very high quality at a fair price for this level of food. Noise level high near the bar, more moderate in the second dining room more distant from the bar. Overall, a very positive experience -- we are eager to return.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food. had a hardWonderful food. had a hard time picking what to eat because everything looked good and the combinations of ingredients were challenging to imagine but were simply amazing to the taste buds.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful dinnerWe had a wonderful dinner celebrating my birthday. The appetizers were superb, my lamb dish was divine. The wine steward helped us select a perfect wine. A terrific and memorable evening.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly RecommendIt's becoming one of our favorite restaurants in the western suburbs. Convenient for us(we live in Wayland). Food has been consistently very good. Service has been solid. Noise level has been manageable. Overall, outstanding.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMy partner and I have beenMy partner and I have been coming here since they opened and have never been disappointed by the food or the service. We moved to Concord from Boston just before the restaurant opened and it was as though 80 Thoreau knew that we missed the good food of the city! Vincent and Ian are great and always stop by to say hi. The food is consistently good and always feels special. In the past month, we have dined there alone and twice with friends. 80 Thoreau is always on our list and we plan to return again soon!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM80 Thoreau burger dinnerThe food was delicious- the bar and full menus are both reasonably priced according to ample size and deliciousness. Had the 80 Thoreau burger+fries and could realize why it was chosen as one of the best burgers in Boston area. The brioche bun was a little bit over-charred, but the patty and cheese was delicious and cooked/melted perfectly. Their special sauce was a bit too salty, but the fries were awesome with sublime house-made ketchup... The picked veggies were good too, and overall, although I would have loved some veggie on the burger, it was delicious. For dessert, I had the chocolate pave, which was delicious but overwhelming due to its richness and quite big size. The waiter friendly and the service was attentive. Would return soon!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemA little hard to find, this restaurant is in an old train station. But once you enter, you see that this is going to be good...
The food was exceptional; everything we tried was good.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Fourth visit to this restaurantOur Fourth visit to this restaurant, it was delicious as always!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our 2nd time diningThis was our 2nd time dining at 80 Thoreau and found the evening to be much better than our first. Hands down the food is delicious. Two highlights were the Venison Terrine and The Wild Boar Papparadelle. However, we did find the dessert menu lacking this time so no one in our party of 4 ordered anything. Our biggest complaint the first time was the service. We had been completely forgotten by our waiter. It was much better this time. Both the server and manager were always checking in and helpful when having menu questions. Based on this visit, I would definitely come back again and recommend it to others.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb. Compares favorablySuperb. Compares favorably to best restaurants in New York, Paris, London.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMOur meal was excellent, asOur meal was excellent, as was the service and ambience. 80 Thoreau is definitely a "keeper."3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe caramelized banana iceThe caramelized banana ice cream was beyond divine. Had the quail for the second time and can't get enough of it. This restaurant never disappoints.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery single visit is a pleasure!Whether special occasion, quiet dinner, dinner for four, or anything else, 80 Thoreau consistently hits the mark. Food is always superior quality, perfectly prepared, imaginatively plated, whether you go high-end or a burger at the bar. We are SO lucky that we have this in Concord.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOf course 80 Thoreau is fabulous.Of course 80 Thoreau is fabulous. We have been back many times, and it has been nothing short of amazing each time. My only suggestion is that there be more vegetarian options. There were hardly any vegetarian options among either the appetizer or main course menu.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOn the best nights, 80 ThoreauOn the best nights, 80 Thoreau seems like it was shipped from NYC to Concord. Menu was innovative and food was exceptional!3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAll dishes were professionallyAll dishes were professionally prepared. Our server was not to be found at times. Overall experience was great. We will return.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMJust great to have waitersJust great to have waiters that don't introduce themselves as long lost friends and then abandon you. These people were professional, courteous; elegant and freindly service. Delicately prepared food, fresh fish excellent sides, carefully and well prepared dishes with the emphasis on simplicity with delicate seasoning and flavors.3/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant and solid place withPleasant and solid place with interesting and largely successful but not exceptional offerings.3/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food as usual. New menuGreat food as usual. New menu changes/additions and all were excellent. Even noticed that portions are a little bigger - something a few of us
Suggested in the past. Only slight problem left, forgot about the deserts ordered spice cake desert, was expecting slice to share
Got 3 pieces, marble size. Why?2/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent all the way around.Excellent all the way around. We had a typical party of 4 and everything was great, food was outstanding, service was very good. We had been once prior and everything was good but they have stepped up a notch since and improved all the way around. We will be back freqeuntly.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMNailed It!We've been to 80 Thoreau quite a few times and the one soft spot (if you can even call it that) for us has been the dessert. However this time the dessert was superb. The lemon custard was just like the chiffon pie my mom used to make (except better, sorry mom) and the chocolate pave was rich without being overly sweet or heavy. Oh yeah, the dinner was great too as usual: scallop crudité was awesome and the quail had some great seasoning on it.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA Home Run ExperienceDinner was a real home run: some really terrific, professionally made cocktails; wonderful food; excellent wine; and really nice, attentive service. Couldn't have been happier. Our whole party raved about the experience. And all this at a pretty good price point too, compared to other fine dining alternatives. Definitely worth a revisit.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMCertainly one of the finerCertainly one of the finer restaurants I have been to in a while. Both my date and I had an excellent time in the warm, inviting setting. The crisp gnocchi was to die for with its tender little pasta and earthy flavors. The seared duck breast was equally great. The spaetzle, chestnut, and pear side was a wonderful compliment to the succulent duck - and may I say the skin was absolutely perfect and crispy. We finished with the panna cotta which proved to be simply refreshing, acting as a nice and light palette cleanser to a wonderful meal. The small amuse-bouche-esque treat with our check was a pleasant surprise too. Overall, our experience was exceptional. The service was attentative and extremely well-mannered for what its worth.1/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect eveningFantastic dining experience. Brought out-of-town guests and they raved about it, everything from the quality of the cocktails, to the diverse wine list, to the exceptional food, and the efficient but unobtrusive service. The fine dining plus relaxed atmosphere made a perfect combination. We had a hard time leaving. It was a perfect evening. Thank you 80 Thoreau!11/29/2012 12:00:00 AMAlways something new and freshAlways something new and fresh on a constantly updated menu. We had a variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes in our group of 4 and everyone was impressed by the quality adn creativity.11/17/2012 12:00:00 AM
