80 ThoreauOutstanding!Outstanding!
The beer menu needs a little attention to adding something higher-end.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe celebrated a birthday amongWe celebrated a birthday among 3 girlfriends. We are always looking for great food, wonderful ambience, nothing too loud so we can catch up....I think we have definitely found our spot!! Wonderful wait staff delicious food!!!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur anniversaryWe decided to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary with a good dinner in a quaint place close to home. We found this place on the internet and it looked interesting. Our meal was well prepared with a unique selection of items in season. The service staff was especially attentive. Overall, we enjoyed our anniversary celebration and plan to return, even without a special occasion.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat atmosphereFood was good, staff was friendly, helpful and professional.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant in BostonYou will never have a bad meal at 80 Thoreau. The best, most thoughtful staff possible make everything perfect.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, great drinksOur dining experience at 80 Thoreau was very good. The cocktails and the service was exceptional. However the food was hit and miss. The gnocchi and the lamb were very good but the tuna appetizer with olives you could not taste the tuna as the olives overpowered it, and the crab cake was burnt on the top and a little too sweet with the addition of carrots. The desert of chocolate bete noir I thought was deilcious but my wife found the cake dry.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMUNREAL - HIGHLY RECOMMENDEDCannot say much else other than the title. The entire evening was exemplary and the food was off the rails. My wife and I each had an app, a middle course of pasta, an entree and a desert. Everything was STELLAR. Tilefish crudo, rillettes, gnocchi, cavatelli and hanger were exceptional. The scallop entree was, without a doubt, one of the best plates of food I have eaten in a long, long, long time.
I don't normally write reviews. I don't yelp. I know how tough it is to execute on all levels in that business. But, after eating there, I was moved to tell the world. It was a great time, with great food, in a great room, with great service.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Venue & MealWe really enjoyed a meal with friends here. The food, vibe, and service were all great. I'd recommend it.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious Food, Great ServicePerfect for an evening out or a celebration. We celebrated the high school graduation of our son and two of his friends with their families - 9 of us in all. The restaurant staff was lovely. I had called to ask if they would put a candle in a chocolate dessert. They put in 3 candles but in addition had printed menus which were headed with CONGRATULATIONS!
The food was unusual and delicious. The service friendly. Even though we had the last reservation of the evening (9:15 pm) no one tried to rush us out.
We will definitely return.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly gets better!!!80 Thoreau has found the recipe for a marvelous evening out. The food is outstanding. Some new additions to the menu are remarkable. We were celebrating a family anniversary, and Ian and Vincent could not have been more helpful or attentive.5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMStill This Fan's Favorite! We always look forward to the restaurant's menu, which tends to change with the seasons, always emphasizing flavorful dishes and, unlike too many others, serving up entrees that are a complete "plate." The service is always attentive, without hovering. The very good wine list includes a nice selection of half bottles as well. On a holiday weekend, the usually "energetic" noise level was dialed down to a pleasant "moderate" level.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love 80 Thoreau!80 Thoreau was a spectacular choice for our anniversary celebration. It is a romantic atmosphere, with exceptional service and a menu that makes it almost impossible to choose. Everything we had was outstanding: fresh, creative, and decadent. I will definitely recommend 80 Thoreau to others!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAn outstanding gem in theAn outstanding gem in the middle of Concord. The food is different, not too different that you say oh no, I would never eat that, but just different enough that you say how interesting, I have to try that. The vegetables and fruits are seasonal and fresh and the taste reflects that.
The wine list is interesting with several choices in the moderate price range.
80 Thoreau never disappoints us.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFriendly and inviting atmosphere.
VFriendly and inviting atmosphere.
Very good food and service.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMsuperb food, small servingsthat's it. food is great, but don't swallow too fast!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThoreau-ly wonderful! We've eaten here before, but this time 80 Thoreau really outdid itself. Crabcake app was simply the best I've ever eaten, beautifully complemented by a lovely pea-puree based sauce. Two of us ordered simple salads to start (what a waste, I thought; why not something more unusual?). Well, they are still raving about them. (The chef revealed that the "secret" dressing ingredient was... No, go ask her yourself.) Seared gnocchi were still great (new sauce, same gnocchi). Excellent entrees: bluefish obviously very fresh; chicken perfectly cooked (two ways), with lots of morels (!). We sampled the full panoply of desserts; each was really superb. House-made sorbets and ice creams: all wonderful. Service: friendly and professional. A great meal!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is an attractive placeThis is an attractive place tucked away the top of an old train station. No view or anything. Calm decor. The bar tender puts on wuite a show with unusal drinks. The food is great, with local and seasonal foods -- e.g. fiddlehead ferns. The service was friendly but slow. I had to signal the waiter numerous times. they seemed to need another bartender too5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways GoodDined her many times and expectation are always met or exceeded.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNew menu items a big hit!Had an enjoyable dinner with friends at 80 Thoreau and tried some of the new offerings on the menu. I had the crab cake and it melted in my mouth, yet was intensely flavorful and rich. Reminded me of 21 Club's crab cake of old. My friends tried the gnocchi with nettles and the white bean soup--all received very well. We polished off the chicken, pappardelle, and beef. We had a great time and the service was impeccable as well. Still have thoughts about the crab cake and will go back real soon.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a first visit forThis was a first visit for us to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food was incredible, the service impeccable. We will definately at this to our list of favorites. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. I'm glad a place like this exists outside of Boston. We will be back!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service are wonderful,The food and service are wonderful, but it so loud that it is very, very difficult to hear your dinner companions. I wish Concord had more fine dining options, so we could go elsewhere for a lovely meal.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMVisited in a party of 6, forVisited in a party of 6, for a friend's birthday... The service was slower than what I was used to when dining alone, but the staff and the atmosphere was enjoyable as usual. The food was good- nothing surprising, but nothing disappointing either. The lamb main dish was a bit smaller than other menus of similar price, but was cooked tenderly. The duck confit on the bar menu was a bit salty and chewy but very savory with barley. It was enjoyable.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, nice ambiance!I went to 80 Thoreau on a Monday night with three friends. Overall, the food, ambiance and service was fantastic. We all enjoyed our dishes immensely, including the 80 Thoreau "classics" of gnocchi with morels and grilled lamb with turnovers. My friend also ordered the chicken and was pleasantly surprised at how generous the portion was. I was delighted by my paparadelle. The desserts were fun and unique. Ambiance was lovely--we were pleased to see how full it was even late on a Monday night. The bill was very reasonable too given the quality of the dishes. We will definitely be back!!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally a restaurant in theFinally a restaurant in the suburbs you can go to and you know you will love everything you order. Not so expensive that you save it for only special occasions.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful birthdayWe had a wonderful birthday meal and everything was delicious. The service really stood out and the prices weren't out of line for a meal of this quality. Highly recommend for a romantic evening. Hope to be back again.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great. Comfortable,Consistently great. Comfortable, relaxed, , subtle fresh flavors, unpretentious presentation, top-notch, always looking forward to next visit to 80 Thoreau.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMbest suburban dining experiencebest suburban dining experience in a very long time4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining experience butGreat dining experience but since we go frequently we'd like to see more variety in the menu.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food! Warm Atmosphere! We have become regulars here. We enjoy everything on both the dining room and bar menus.
Staff are always friendly and knowledgeable.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMScallop appetizer was veryScallop appetizer was very salty, but apart from that everyone thought the food was excellent and we will go back.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA great neighborhood restaurant,A great neighborhood restaurant, no need to go to Boston to get a good meal with good service and and a reasonable wine list. The food is always very good and the service is excellent. Only suggestion would be to add or change the menu at least a little bit so us REGULARS have some more or different choices.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWent twice last week! FirstWent twice last week! First time was so good, had to go back for more. Terrific both times. Their papardelle is a dream, but it's not all super-high end...their hamburger is the best anywhere. Just love this place.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMake room in your scheduleMake room in your schedule for 80 Thoreau while the veal is still on the menu; it's super-good. Get there early and have a drink at the bar; the man behind the counter really knows how to whip up a good drink (or three). I have to struggle to come up with an area for improvement: but our coffees came out about 10 minutes after dessert but it hardly ruined the experience.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem In Concord, MAFrom the moment we walked in we realized that we were in for a treat. The decor is soft and subtle. Our waiter was very attentive and food knowledgeable. The menu is impressive with just 5 or 6 Starters and 7 or 8 Entrees. So you know that this kitchen is devoted to food preparation and quality.
For Starters, we had the Venison Terrine and the Crisp Gnocchi. Beautifully plated and delicious!!!
For Entrees, we had the Grilled Veal Porterhouse and the Pan Roasted Beef Hanger Steak. These two dishes were to die for!!!
For Dessert, we had the Brown Butter Chocolate Pavé and the Caramelized Banana Ice Cream. A wonderful finish to a great anniversary dinner.
This restaurant is a must if you love good food.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLimited menu, a bit expensive,Limited menu, a bit expensive, portions small but all in all a good restaurant.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable and excellent food!We went on a double-date with friends and all four of us really enjoyed the experience! Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable about the items on the menu. The food was very well-presented and excellent. We would definitely go back!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative dishes of very highCreative dishes of very high quality at a fair price for this level of food. Noise level high near the bar, more moderate in the second dining room more distant from the bar. Overall, a very positive experience -- we are eager to return.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food. had a hardWonderful food. had a hard time picking what to eat because everything looked good and the combinations of ingredients were challenging to imagine but were simply amazing to the taste buds.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMnot as enticing on a second visitNot as wonderful as on our first visit. Both me appetizer and main course were too salty -- but restauranteur readily replaced the first course and did not charge for it. Tip top wine list and we enjoyed a wonderful Rioja. My lemon dessert helped dissipate the dissapointment. Excellent attentive service but not intrusive. I'll give them a third chance.
I will order the rabbit terrine as a first course next time -- my husband's was excellent4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat burgerBest burger I ever had. Eat at the bar to order it4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful dinnerWe had a wonderful dinner celebrating my birthday. The appetizers were superb, my lamb dish was divine. The wine steward helped us select a perfect wine. A terrific and memorable evening.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe mushroom strudel appetizerThe mushroom strudel appetizer and lentil soup were both excellent. My wild boar over papardalle was also delicious. However, my husband's veal porterhouse was a bit bland and he spooned some of the sauce from my dish over his veal and wished that his had come with a sauce as well. His banana icecream dessert was good as was my lemon custard.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly RecommendIt's becoming one of our favorite restaurants in the western suburbs. Convenient for us(we live in Wayland). Food has been consistently very good. Service has been solid. Noise level has been manageable. Overall, outstanding.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMy partner and I have beenMy partner and I have been coming here since they opened and have never been disappointed by the food or the service. We moved to Concord from Boston just before the restaurant opened and it was as though 80 Thoreau knew that we missed the good food of the city! Vincent and Ian are great and always stop by to say hi. The food is consistently good and always feels special. In the past month, we have dined there alone and twice with friends. 80 Thoreau is always on our list and we plan to return again soon!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM80 Thoreau burger dinnerThe food was delicious- the bar and full menus are both reasonably priced according to ample size and deliciousness. Had the 80 Thoreau burger+fries and could realize why it was chosen as one of the best burgers in Boston area. The brioche bun was a little bit over-charred, but the patty and cheese was delicious and cooked/melted perfectly. Their special sauce was a bit too salty, but the fries were awesome with sublime house-made ketchup... The picked veggies were good too, and overall, although I would have loved some veggie on the burger, it was delicious. For dessert, I had the chocolate pave, which was delicious but overwhelming due to its richness and quite big size. The waiter friendly and the service was attentive. Would return soon!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden GemA little hard to find, this restaurant is in an old train station. But once you enter, you see that this is going to be good...
The food was exceptional; everything we tried was good.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur Fourth visit to this restaurantOur Fourth visit to this restaurant, it was delicious as always!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our 2nd time diningThis was our 2nd time dining at 80 Thoreau and found the evening to be much better than our first. Hands down the food is delicious. Two highlights were the Venison Terrine and The Wild Boar Papparadelle. However, we did find the dessert menu lacking this time so no one in our party of 4 ordered anything. Our biggest complaint the first time was the service. We had been completely forgotten by our waiter. It was much better this time. Both the server and manager were always checking in and helpful when having menu questions. Based on this visit, I would definitely come back again and recommend it to others.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb. Compares favorablySuperb. Compares favorably to best restaurants in New York, Paris, London.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
