We were nice and tipped our waitress 20% even though we didn't like it particularly. We won't return. Sorry. All thumbs down."

  • "Not the kind of meal I eat very often. Rich Sauces. Heavy meats. French Fries. But it was pretty good. The service was outstanding. The old house, with fire place going, was comfortable on a rainy night. A nice option."

  • "This was our first time at this cute little house on the hill. The food was excellent and the historic landmark-turned-restaurant had a nice intimate atmosphere. The tables for two are a bit close together for our taste. It was a very busy night so it took awhile to get drinks and be waited on but all-in-all, we enjoyed the evening and may return again."

  • "I went on Valentine's day; while the menu was very small, the food was delicious. The meal was served quickly, which can be taken as good or bad depending on your mood and plans. Service was rushed and seemed a little thin, as it was valentines day, although I only had my drink refilled once, otherwise I had to refill my own water. While I will probably not return on a busy day, I will definitely come back on a less busy day, as the food was delicious."

  • "Fairly low key, very good food, with daily specials. Nice setting, in an old victorian house. We did not see the upstairs. What really made it stand out was the excellent service. Our waitpreson and helper were very attentive without being overbearing. Food came promptly, but it was clear that we were free to linger over drinks, coffee etc. We had not been to this restaurant for several years, but now we will put it on our list of regulars, They even crumbed the table. I haven't seen that done in a long time."

  • "We dined here over the Christmas holiday (4 people) and will not return unless they make signifcant changes. The menu selection is decent but the food is marginal considering we ordered 4 separate dishes and nobody experienced a knockout dish. I don't like to slam any local business and suggest you read reviews on several sites before you make a choice. My only real complaint is the staff is very unprofessional and when paying $30+ for a dish I expect the wait staff to be well trained and efficient. I can't remember the last place I visited where the staff would reach across in front of our faces to deliver or retreive dishes. No uniforms for staff and not impressed by people wearing tennis shoes when I dress for a dining experience."

  • "We were very disappointed. The owner, Didier literally jacked up the prices to ridiculous. We were shocked. The worst part about it was that the food was less than mediocre. WAY WORSE than his everyday menu.My chicken was so dry I thought an amateur made it! The cocktails were $16 bucks each!!!!!!! Why do restaurants do this to their loyal patrons? It was sad. We almost got up and left. We will never eat there again. I can't understand the greed. If you are going to stick it to people, then at least have VERY memorable food!!!!! GEEEZ!!!!!!!! We left feeling very sad and bent over, so to speak."

  • "Arrived for the 7pm New Year's eve seating, table for 5 was ready when we arrived - confusion within the staff (busy with the 5pm seating leaving and the 7pm seating arriving). Once seated we waited 10 minutes before we were offered drinks or water. We spent that time going over the menu and ordered when the waitress came for our drink order. Drinks and water arrived promptly followed by appetizers. We then waited near an hour for our food. The meal arrived and was excellent. We were offered desert and ordered a couple with coffee, the waitress stating it could take 10 minutes for the lava cake. A member of our group heard the wait staff telling a 9pm seating client that their table was not ready because people ordered cake..."

  • "Few foodies would rate Ventura, California as a hotbed of great or even imaginative cuisine. We have a few food trucks, a few authentic Mexican restaurants, one notably hip restaurant in downtown—not naming names, but more famous for decor than food—and well, a few odds and ends and that's about it. Alone, 71 Palm stands out as THE restaurant for fine food in the city. Located in a beautifully restored Craftsman house on a hill in downtown, inside is homey and pleasant. Service is unobtrusive and superb. The crab cakes were heavenly, my rack of lamb gorgeously crusted & impossibly tender. All six in our party raved about their dishes. The apple tatin with caramel, amazing. Thank you, Chef Didier, for elevating our town with your excellence."

  • "Professional and amiable but not fake "friendly" service, warm ambience, specials menu -- super. Christmas decor a nice touch, lthough early. Moderate noise level was from diners conversing, much better than blaring music. Appetizers (lobster bisque; haricot vert) great; main courses (osso buco [special] and strip steak, rare, cab-gorgon sauce) awesome. Problem- dessert: Crepes nutella a la mode delicious, but tiramisu gloppy / poorly presented. Price a little high for high class bistro food. Because of the price my wife would not recommend, but she liked everything else. I agree about the price being slightly high, but still recommend. (four AND A HALF stars for the food) Overall, a lovely and delicious time."

  • "71 Palm is a throwback to the days of having a nice, civilized dinner in a pretty white linen tablecloth atmosphere. The service is professional, the food very good-some dishes better than others but all consistently good, and a good a fair priced wine list. 71 Palm is in an old house and is decorated very tastefully for Christmas-just enough to convey the holiday spirit without going overboard. Saturday night was our first visit and I'm sure we'll be returning."

  • "71 Palm is one of my favorite restaurants in Ventura County. The atmosphere is most pleasant. Upstairs dining room is better for groups; down stairs preferable for couples or parties of four. The menu is varied with a decidedly French flair. Having a parking lot behind the charming Craftsman structure is a definite bonus. And BTW the food is consistently noteworthy."

  • "We've been here 3 times now (only for dinner). During our last visit, the person in charge (who also served as bartender) was super strict about the presentation and quality of the food. I noticed that he personally inspected every plate before it went out to a table. Strict? Maybe. But he was professional and polite (even to his staff). And we were served perfect food by an attentive staff. The ambience is also great. It used to be an elegant cottage in the early 1900's and is now, of course, a restaurant. This gives it a very "homely" feel, almost as if you're visiting someone's house for dinner. A great place to take someone for a nice occasion if you're looking for something different."

  • "Our waitress didn't know all the specials and on top of that didn't even know the entire regular menu. At first they were so attentive I couldn't even chat with my date, but as soon as we ordered our food we hardly saw our server again. We asked for bread during the meal and had to remind our waitress after waiting 15 mins. It was, unlike the bread we got earlier, cold and hard. I ordered my steak medium rare, it was well done. I wasn't going to send it back as it took forever to be served. On our way out my date found the door to the bathrooom locked and said to herself "Oh its locked," and out of no where another waitress butts in and tells her in the most surley tone: "That USUALLY means there is someone ELSE in there." Super rude."
