700 DraytonSavannah's GemA group of three took a trip to Savannah for a non-Mother's Day weekend, and chose 700 Drayton for our Saturday dinner. We were impressed at the outset -- beautiful building, smart interior, limited but well-represented menu, and an attentive, accommodating, and knowledgeable staff who communicated well with the kitchen. We were very happy with our meals, and enjoyed the southern twist on the items. The kitchen is very talented! The restaurant made a special molten chocolate lava cake dessert with congratulations written in a strawberry syrup on the dish. Very appropriate. We were staying close by and I had read other reviews that sounded real good. Our waitress was very helpful in helping us make our selections. The she-crab bisque was excellent. Our server was very nice and knew the menu well. The atmosphere was not as intimate as some of the other houses in Savannah. Celebrating my mother's 89th birthday. Ambiance was great, beautiful antique decor, with majestic pictures and dark wood furniture except on the porch where we preferred to sit. The porch is all windows and you can see the Mansion, next doo and the people walking. Everyone's breakfast was great except mine. I had the crab, shrimp etc omelette. It was puffy and appeared to be made from egg mix. The seafood was scant, as was the cheese in the middle (non on top). I would not recommend it. Otherwise, the waiter was very attentive and pleasant and they brought my mom a complimentary creme brulee with a candle. She helped with making recommendations on meal choices and we all (6 of us)enjoyed every bite. My son-in-law has not quit talking about the amazaing Filet Mignon he had! Two in our group had the flounder and enjoyed it. Two had the grouper (I was one) and it was amazing. The fish portions were modest but, plenty for me and my daughter. My husband had the seafood pasta and she crab soup and said it was very good. Wine list was nice. Cocktails were made perfectly. I would highly recommend 700 Drayton! I not saying the food was bad. It just wasn't the same great food we had a year ago. The portions were smaller which is not a bad thing, but the prices were not. Both my hubby and I noticed the difference. We thoroughly enjoyed the Cajun Pasta and Burger. The pasta dish was delicious! The burger was perfectly prepared and flavorful on a bun that was fresh with good texture. We returned to dine at dinner enjoying the Barrel Cut Filet Mignon and Pecan Flounder Meuniere. The Filet was perfectly prepared and perfectly flavorful. The Flounder was tender and delicious. The decor is lovely. The service is friendly, helpful and attentive. Impressive dining experiences. Would highly recommend.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe stayed at the Mansion onWe stayed at the Mansion on Forsythe Park where this restaurant is and we had several meals here breakfast, lunch & dinner. I have to say that all were excellent and the service some of the best we have ever had. The duck salad I had for lunch was beautifully presented and was even more delicious than it looked. Everyone was friendly and very knowledgeable about the food and went out of there way to make the dinning experience perfect. I highly recommend you visit the restaurant if in Savannah and I would also highly recommend the hotel one of the best we have ever stayed in. Even a mistaken attempt to deliver us more food after we had eaten turned into a pleasant surprise when the manager heard that we wished the food brought to the table had been a creme brulee and then he brought us a creme brulee no charge. 700 Drayton has become one of our local favorites in Savannah.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had reservations for 6:00We had reservations for 6:00 and arrived about 5:55. No one was at the hostess desk so we stood there and waited for at least 10 minutes then a group of 3 people showed up for dinner (no reservations) and we all continued for another 5 minutes before one of the woman went to find someone to help all of us.
