A word from 604 at West Village
604 at West Village

Towering brick walls reach up to the exposed wooden rafters and modern, spherical chandeliers hang from 604 at West Village's high ceilings. Beneath this rustic, yet refined decor, plates of contemporary Italian dishes travel to tables, loaded with locally sourced produce and housemade pastas. Every day, chefs incorporate new ingredients from the Durham Farmers' Market into their risotto and craft the pasta primavera exclusively from fresh, seasonal vegetables.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I booked for dinner during my sister's visit to North Carolina. She enjoyed the tobacco warehouse bricks venue and the food. She selected a vegetarian entree and liked it well enough that she may copy it for a dinner party. I had duck with spaghetti squash latkes which was tasty. We both liked our desserts, lemon cream cake for me and a trio of sorbet for her. She had a glass of white wine and I had a glass of a red (Aglianico.) I am likely to return when in the Triangle area."

  • "We had a group of 12 on a Saturday night and the service was impeccable, the food terrific (all served on time and hot) and the atmosphere was perfect. A great time!"

  • "I like 604 West Village for the location, ambiance, and friendliness of the staff. The food is most often very good. Just read closely when ordering. Most things are wonderful, but a few miss badly. We ordered white wine when last there and red strived at the table."

  • "We dined at 604 at West Village prior to attending a performance at DPAC. We met at 5:00pm. We found a place to park on the street in front of the restaurant. There is a pay for parking lot across the street. The signage is great so it was really easy to find the entrance. The decor is upscale rustic/casual. The wine options were plentiful with lots of great wines available by the glass. The food is fantastic! The portions are large and we wished we had shared entrees. I had the pasta with the duck confit (can't remember the name of the dish). It was outstanding - fresh pasta, a lot of duck, flavors that worked really well together. A friend had the risotto and it was perfect. We really enjoyed our meal and all agreed would return."

  • "We arrived way too early for our reservation and staff easily accomodated us. I had Oysters Rockefeller (excellent) and Lobster and Clams Fra Diavolo (very good). Service was excellent - attentive but not disruptive. I'll definitely be going back."

  • "We really enjoyed our first visit here. The ambience is great...a renovated portion of an old tobacco factory. Rich restored wood. High exposed ceilings. It has a great "feel" to it. Our server Jeremiah was very attentive and the food was excellent. But.....we wanted a glass of red wine. The menu showed about 8-9 choices but Jeremiah noted that they had a large unexpected group the previous weekend and they only had 2 offerings since they had not replenished. I could understand this but it was Thursdya evening...plenty of time to restock the wines from the previous weekend. Also, we ordered a salad to share. It came out as one with an extra plate because the chef didn't like to ruin his presentation. Seemed a little odd."

  • "With one other couple we dined early, 5PM. The owner/manager greeted us and explained they would be open in fifteen minutes and they were. He was very personable and gracious throughout the meal. The food was excellent; all four of us were very pleased with our selections. The young woman who served our meal brought a sample of the wine we choose. The wine was a lovely accompaniment. Prices were reasonable. The only criticism I can think of is it was somewhat dark but this was of minor concern. I would not hesitate to recommend 604 West Village to anyone looking for a pleasurable dining experience. We will return."

  • "poor service, drinks were incorrect, food prepared 15 minutes too early and then reheated and served again. wont return which is a shame since the atmosphere and the food is actually good."

  • "Went for a dinner prior to a DPAC show on a Saturday night. Not too crowded. Service was very good. Had the Fazzoletti which if you like pasta and cheese, this is for you. Even though I am 1/2 Italian, I never heard of this dish but I know one thing, I will come back to 604 just for this specialty. Great food at a good price. Enjoy."

  • "We live in Winston and attended two musicals at DPAC recently. Just stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant. Enjoyed both times and look forward to another visit. Really enjoy the warehouse district location."

  • "It has been a while since we last dined at 604 at West Village and I don't know why because the food was amazing! I am a Foodie and I was pleasantly surprised because I don't remember it being such a "foodie place". If you haven't tried it lately, check it out. Drinks were delicious and not just the usual. Great atmosphere, service was excellent. We sat at one of the roundish tables in the bar area (sits 6) which I love when wanting to see and hear everyone at your table. You will not be disappointed"

  • "We were a party of seven, and everyone had a great time. Food was delicious and nice bottle of Barolo with t it complimented nicely."

  • "This restaurant has the usual Italian offerings with some interesting items, also. The chef isn't straining to be cutting edge with weird ingredients -- fine with us. Everything was well prepared: the calimari was right out of the fryer, with fresh tomato sauce and garlic aoli on the side. The meatballs were delicious and well seasoned and the pasta cooked perfectly. On request, we sampled a red wine, which we ordered. The large party in the back was in an enclosed space and did not bother us. But the party of four next to us were so loud that we couldn't hear each other at times. I wish we had been seated in a quieter area or had asked to be moved. Service was a bit slow, but the maitre d' circulated constantly to check on everyone."

  • "Very nice space in a converted warehouse, high ceilings, about 2 blocks from Carolina Theatre. We both had pasta which was good with portions big enough for 2 or 3 people. Probably should have tried something more adventurous. Server very attentive. For the price, however, next time would probably try somewhere else"

  • "We had to have a quick meal but the service, ambience, menu were wonderful. My pasta dish was amazing and I had never seen that dish anywhere else . Try this place.loved the wine too and that part of the dining room was cordoned off by a big 2-story glass screen. It really kept it quiet for everyone"

  • "Our experience was fun, the food was very good, but the service was awful. Our server was the bartender and our waiter. She did not write down our order, therefore, one of our dinners was not correct. We had to ask for bread, more wine, and coffee. She never asked if we wanted dessert. I did let the owner know of the poor service as we left. I will go back, but will not let this happen again with the waiter."

  • "We were 9 people for dinner. Service was very slow. Appetizers came out at different times. Some appetizers came out with the main entree, some never came out at all. Two entrees came out after almost everyone else finished dinner. Totally understaffed and poorly managed, but food was very good."

  • "I was very excited to try this restaurant for my birthday, but due to the poor quality of the food and the waiter's confusion over the state of the kitchen we enjoyed this meal very little. They had run out of everything by the time we were seated, and even though there were few other diners in the kitchen, no one in the front of the house seemed to know if we had been helped (we had not) and our waiter knew they were out of a lot on the menu but not exactly what was out or what it would be replaced with. The wine list had almost entirely been depleted and the lamb was inedible and overcooked. Overall, very disappointing and a rather dark spot on the night. Too bad, it was decorated nicely and seemed romantic, but oh well."

  • "The food is great here - the wine is well priced but the portions are not generous - I had their Hanger and it came out cold but that was quickly and well remedied. Otherwise their food is really good. This was my second visit and everyone was happy with their food. We had their rabbit which is quite good and filling. We also had their Pizza with Duck confit which was also quite good. So Bonne Apetit !"

  • "Very pleasant atmosphere and quieter than most. Service was fine. Food was good, but lacked some refinement in the accompaniments. Prices are perhaps slightly high for the level of refinement of the dishes we ordered."

  • "This was our first visit to this restaurant, and we were very pleased at the quality of the food and the service. The menu is varied and interesting, the ingredients were fresh and the wine list, though small, included some nice, relatively uncommon selections. The shrimp risotto was well prepared and tasty, and the capellini, a delicate pasta that is too-easily and too-often overcooked, was perfectly done. The bread pudding was a little dry but also very tasty. It was a quiet night, so we can't comment on the potential noise level when the open space is filled. The service was exceptional, but again, we can't comment on how well they deal with a full room. We will definitely return."

  • "The menu is diverse, the cooking is very good and the whole experience was very satisfactory. This is a real gem for the Triangle. We were here on a quiet night, I can imagine that since it is very open space and could be noisy on very active nights."

  • "It was an early dinner at 5:30 with only one other table of 6 seated at the same time as our party of 5. I politely let the server know we would need to leave by 7pm to go to the show. "No problem." We ordered drinks and wine and a couple of appetizers and our entrees. Well, as the evening progressed we finished our appetizers but our entrees weren't showing up (we were the only people in the restaurant at this point!). 6:50 -- no food and no server, so I get up from the table and ask the hostess to go get our server. He comes to the table with our food. No clue what caused the debacle, but we shoved the food down our throats, paid the $200 bill and left to get to our 7:30 show at 7:22. No time to speak to the manager."

  • "We had a great dinner experience. It is equal, if not better, than many of the restaurants in the Downtown area. Had pork tenderloin special and spaghetti. Both were well prepared."

  • "Our party of five came for dinner after a DPAC 12/22/13 Sunday afternoon performance. Every person who met or spoke to us at the restaurant was very welcoming, courteous, and attentive. Greg was our waiter and gave us excellent first-class service. Duck prosciutto, calamari, and bib lettuce apps were all excellent; ravioli, scallops, meatballs, and pizzas for main course were all delicious as well. No room for dessert this time. It was rather early on Sunday evening so the noise level was very low. Warehouse atmosphere was charming. Extremely pleased with our total experience and would certainly consider returning the next time we are dining in Durham."

  • "This is the second time we have eaten at this restaurant and it was just as good as the first time. We come here before attending a show at the DPAC. It does not take us 5 minutes to get to the DPAC from here. The food and service are wonderful."

  • "I went to 604 hoping for a great dining experience and they delivered! My boyfriend and I went on a Wednesday night so it was quiet and intimate. The wine list was nice - though mostly in italian; it was kind of like picking a name out of a hat for us even though our choice was delicious. I can imagine the wine list would be exciting for someone who was more knowledgable in italian wines. The food was incredible. My boyfriend had the rabbit and I had the handmade pasta with duck confit, both were delicious. We were so impressed with our dinner, we will definitely be returning!"

  • "We visited the restaurant based on proximity to the Carolina Theatre. Pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food. Not your ordinary Italian. Everything from appetizers to dessert was excellent. Will definitely return."
    Dined on 11/30/2013
  • "Service was poor. The waiter was more interested in watching a football game then waiting the table. 10 min to get drinks to table. Food was served before all were prepared. They set us up against a wall that was cold. Food was very average. It is going the way of Tosca and will not survive."
