  • "We had a large group and thought we'd have trouble finding a place. They had room for us & our group arrived at prime dinner time to find an empty restaurant. We were worried but the food, service and wine were terrific. We did notice some folks picking up take out while we were there but no other diners the whole time. We had a leisurely 3 hour dinner with 12 of us. The waiter was even willing to divide our bill 4 ways. It was private dining at its best. The decor is simple but warm, wine list had wonderful Italian wines that the waiter helped us with 2 great selections. We were pleased with our find and puzzled as to why there were no other diners. Salads, seafood veal Marsala and pasta were wonderful."

  • "My wife and I went to 604 at West Village for the first time the other night to celebrate our five year anniversary and were blown away by the experience at 604 at West Village. From the bruschetta to the farfella pasta, everything exude complex flavors. Not only was the food delicious but the wait staff was also phenomenal. I did not once have to ask for anything and our server made sure that our experience at 604 was a great one. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and will add it to my very short list of awesome restaurants that I would be willing to pay a chunk of change to eat at."

  • "We found our experience to be just ok. The salad barely had any goat cheese on it, the portions were good, the bread and olive oil good when it finally arrived, service was just ok. Too bad because the physical space and outdoor space is really nice and inviting."

  • "Long story short, I would avoid this restaurant during restaurant week. The fixed menu left much to be desired at a restaurant that typically serves higher quality food. I'll give my compliments to the entree, but the appetizer and desert were barely edible. And I'd say the service was great, but, considering we were the only party at the restaurant at 9pm on what should have been a busy night, I would expect them to be quite attentive."

  • "We took advantage of the RTP Restaurant Week and tried 604 for the first time. We went on a Wednesday around 8, we were 1 of 4 couples there, by the time the night ended we were the only patrons there, a little weird to the only couple in the restaurant. However, the staff was pleasant, food was well done, tasty, and good portions. Overall a nice place. The outdoor seating area for night dining or drinks is pretty romantic. "

  • "The courtyard at 604 is really wonderful, and the service is top notch. We miss some of the old dishes, but there's still a great selection. We miss the pizza parlor menu and wish that 604 could incorporate that, too. The past few summers there were some problems with bees, etc, as the summer progressed and we hope the staff can avoid that this year. A wonderful oasis in Durham."

  • "My party of nine was passed to three different servers, one of whom abruptly left apparently out of frustration due to understaffing. My wife and I have had excellent dining experiences at 604 in the past, and I had been wanting to bring my family there for some time. Unfortunately, the service was an absolutement disappointment. We felt like an unwelcome burden. The management was aware of the problem, but never visited our table or stepped in to improve the service. What a disservice to the chef's staff, which continues to serve delicious dishes. However, the poor service ruined the experience. What a shame!"

  • "We ate here 6 weeks ago, loved it. Selected it for a pre-theater dinner w/friends on Sat. It was TERRIBLE. Wait for service was interminable. The staff--particularly a woman we found out was the manager--was overwhelmed. After our order was finally taken, 2 of our 4 people received their entrees and had time to eat them--twice!--before entrees came for the other 2. My entrée was lukewarm & a pale imitation of the same dish I'd had 6 weeks before. To top it off, the waiter apologetically said he would see that our entrees were comped...and then the manager came over and in a very snotty manner told us that the waiter "didn't have the authority to do that" and that she would give us a discount. Hah!Never, ever again at 604 West Village!"

  • "I had a reservation. It took 20 minutes after we were seated to be acknowledged by wait staff. We said we needed to order everything as we were in a hurry and trying to make a show at Carolina Theatre. While ordering, we were informed that 80% of the wine selections were not available nor were most of the beers. We ordered 2 beers (same brand) and red wine. Beers came 10 min. later and were wrong beer(waiter said they were out but brought us closest thing). Wine didn't show-when it did, it was white, not red. Had to go into bar to order bourbon as waiter had no idea what they had. Salads finally came out - these were ok except for the SMALL, CURLY, BLACK HAIRS ON THE BREAD that came with the salad. Waiter response - Sorry. WE LEFT!!"

  • "We ate at 604 West Village on Friday evening prior to a show at DPAC. We ordered the grilled octopus appetizer for $13 and were shocked to find that it was "minced" octopus. Literally, we found 3 very small pieces in the entire appetizer..the majority was roasted red peppers. Way overpriced for what we received. Additionally, when we got ready to order, we were informed that they were out of the sea bass for the evening- it was 5:30p.m. and there was one other table of 4 people in the entire restaurant so, pretty sure that they hadn't eaten it all but rather, it was indicative of poor kitchen management. We opted for the chicken saltimbocca that was overcooked- the breading was burned and chicken was very dry. Wouldn't recommend."

  • "604 used to be a very good restaurant. Not sure if they changed owners but the quality seems to have diminished and the prices are very high for the pasta dishes. Dinner for 2 (before tip) was 82.00. We had two salads and each ordered pasta. And there was one glass of wine. I ordered spaghetti squash and received a small half of squash with about a half cup of sautéed zucchini, onion and eggplant on top. It was 20 dollars! On the plus side our waiter, James, was great. Maybe the key is to stay away from the pasta and stick with the protein. "

  • "I love the idea of this restaurant, nestled in the West Village complex. It's nice inside and out, with attentive & helpful service, expected prices, & lots of parking nearby. But every time I go, the food really fails to meet expectations. Gnocchi, when made well, should be light puffs of flour that practically melt in your mouth, no matter what kind of sauce they are suspended in. These were doughy and heavy. The duck/cauliflower entree had an interesting description, but the duck was substantially undercooked, being rubbery and hard to chew. Our server said the menu was about to change for the summer. Give 'em a try but stick to the appetizers & pizzas, we've had great luck with those in the past."

  • "My parents came from out of town so I took them to 604 West. I had been twice before and thought the menu and wait staff prior times was much more enticing. The menu is seasonal, and no one in my party left feeling like the meal was memorable. It was certainly good, but didn't have that special sparkle. For the quality and impression it felt a bit overpriced."

  • "I think this is a hidden treasure in Durham. We were directed there by recommendation and were not disappointed. The evening was leisurely, the noise level wonderful (although I think that they were not busy enough for them) and the food was great, just one word, great! I had the scallops and a fig/sweet potato vegetable; my husband had sea bass. Neither of us were disappointed. The wait staff was attentive, and although the bar was a bit slow, this happens sometimes. Visitors need to add this restaurant to their plans, and locals need to be sure this restaurant in on their list--I would."

  • "The food was excellent! However my friend's drink arrived after her meal (we had ordered an app too) and it wasn't even what she ordered because the bartender couldn't find the right mix. Fortunately they comp'd her drink without her needing to ask. I am not sure what has changed in the past year since I was last here, but the restaurant was dead. I still think the food is great which is most important to me but the service is obviously an issue."

  • "My guest and I had the whole sea bass that had been cooked to perfection with herbs inside and an assortment of Mediterranean vegetables on the side. The waitress suggested a nice German Muller white wine for a compliment to it and the whole things was s sheer delight. The garden was quiet, not many people, and with spring air at perfect temperature and a light evening breeze, it was a memorable experience that i would like to repeat."

  • "We frequent 604 and always have the same complaint - they need better management. Usually the service is bad (this time we had a WONDERFUL waitress however) and there is not room for customer input. For example, at brunch my niece wanted toast and they don't have toast (really??), so she had a biscuit, which was fine, but then they eggs that should have been (specifically requested) over very easy - so that they are squishy and pop-able - came out hard. For Sunday Easter brunch there was ONE waffle maker - so the waffles came out after everyone else was done eating. We continue to go back so there are definite positive points; in general the food is good, the outdoor seating is lovely. But overall - they need better management. "

  • "This was our first time there and it was really a great find. It is a really neat place with that "brick" / deep oak wood type of restaurant architecture. There are some outdoor patio seating, but being quite cool on Easter, we ate inside. On a nicer warmer day, I imagine eating outside would be cool. The food was really quite good also. I would definitely return again and again."

  • "I booked for dinner during my sister's visit to North Carolina. She enjoyed the tobacco warehouse bricks venue and the food. She selected a vegetarian entree and liked it well enough that she may copy it for a dinner party. I had duck with spaghetti squash latkes which was tasty. We both liked our desserts, lemon cream cake for me and a trio of sorbet for her. She had a glass of white wine and I had a glass of a red (Aglianico.) I am likely to return when in the Triangle area."

  • "We dined at 604 at West Village prior to attending a performance at DPAC. We met at 5:00pm. We found a place to park on the street in front of the restaurant. There is a pay for parking lot across the street. The signage is great so it was really easy to find the entrance. The decor is upscale rustic/casual. The wine options were plentiful with lots of great wines available by the glass. The food is fantastic! The portions are large and we wished we had shared entrees. I had the pasta with the duck confit (can't remember the name of the dish). It was outstanding - fresh pasta, a lot of duck, flavors that worked really well together. A friend had the risotto and it was perfect. We really enjoyed our meal and all agreed would return."

  • "We really enjoyed our first visit here. The ambience is great...a renovated portion of an old tobacco factory. Rich restored wood. High exposed ceilings. It has a great "feel" to it. Our server Jeremiah was very attentive and the food was excellent. But.....we wanted a glass of red wine. The menu showed about 8-9 choices but Jeremiah noted that they had a large unexpected group the previous weekend and they only had 2 offerings since they had not replenished. I could understand this but it was Thursdya evening...plenty of time to restock the wines from the previous weekend. Also, we ordered a salad to share. It came out as one with an extra plate because the chef didn't like to ruin his presentation. Seemed a little odd."

  • "Went for a dinner prior to a DPAC show on a Saturday night. Not too crowded. Service was very good. Had the Fazzoletti which if you like pasta and cheese, this is for you. Even though I am 1/2 Italian, I never heard of this dish but I know one thing, I will come back to 604 just for this specialty. Great food at a good price. Enjoy."

  • "With one other couple we dined early, 5PM. The owner/manager greeted us and explained they would be open in fifteen minutes and they were. He was very personable and gracious throughout the meal. The food was excellent; all four of us were very pleased with our selections. The young woman who served our meal brought a sample of the wine we choose. The wine was a lovely accompaniment. Prices were reasonable. The only criticism I can think of is it was somewhat dark but this was of minor concern. I would not hesitate to recommend 604 West Village to anyone looking for a pleasurable dining experience. We will return."

  • "It has been a while since we last dined at 604 at West Village and I don't know why because the food was amazing! I am a Foodie and I was pleasantly surprised because I don't remember it being such a "foodie place". If you haven't tried it lately, check it out. Drinks were delicious and not just the usual. Great atmosphere, service was excellent. We sat at one of the roundish tables in the bar area (sits 6) which I love when wanting to see and hear everyone at your table. You will not be disappointed"

  • "This restaurant has the usual Italian offerings with some interesting items, also. The chef isn't straining to be cutting edge with weird ingredients -- fine with us. Everything was well prepared: the calimari was right out of the fryer, with fresh tomato sauce and garlic aoli on the side. The meatballs were delicious and well seasoned and the pasta cooked perfectly. On request, we sampled a red wine, which we ordered. The large party in the back was in an enclosed space and did not bother us. But the party of four next to us were so loud that we couldn't hear each other at times. I wish we had been seated in a quieter area or had asked to be moved. Service was a bit slow, but the maitre d' circulated constantly to check on everyone."
