Diner Reviews
  • "I've dine at 5Church several times and each time I am totally satisfied. When my friends come from out of town, 5Church is the first place I take them. I've had friends there from NJ, NY, TX, DE, GA, AL, and surrounding cities in the Carolinas. Everyone of them had nothing but high marks concerning the food, service, and the ambience. Keep doing what you're doing and I will continue to come. I am such a FOODIE and 5Church always satisfy my taste buds :-)."

  • "We had an early dinner at 5Church before heading to a concert on a Monday night. We arrived when they opened and were greeted warmly. We spent a few minutes at the bar prior to being seated. The service was excellent. The recommendations were good. The restaurant definitely has a cool vibe. It was relatively quiet while we were there, but was filling up by the time we left. I had the 60-second steak and it was very good. The S'mores dessert was also very good."

  • "We'd heard very good things about 5Church so we decided to drop by for lunch. Mistake. Turns out that the midday menu is very limited, consisting almost entirely of sandwiches & some salads. The sandwiches were just okay, with the exception of the beet sliders, which were crispy and a nice off-beat item. I've had better chicken souvlaki from street vendors in NY. And the fries, while more than ample, were greasy. In all, a serious letdown from a restaurant otherwise well-regarded."

  • "Certainly am glad we found the restaurant. It is a neighborhood gem. Great food, great wine and superb waitstaff; all were eager to please. No problem splitting the bill splitting a food item. Great wine pairing with food courses. All things considered, I would go there again and recommend it highly."

  • "The food at 5Church lived up to our expectations, but I avoid paying restaurants that aren't hospitable and make a number of outright service mistakes. I personally wouldn't return."

  • "I client of mine raved about this place. I finally went and can't wait to go back! The staff was courteous, service was prompt and accurate, loved the music, the food was delicious and loved the atmosphere! A+"

  • "The overall experience at 5Church was phenomenal! We had reservations and we were sat within 5 minutes of our reservation time. Our waitress was very informative and kind with any questions we had about the menu or wine pairings. The food was outstanding and the overall atmosphere was very cool and hip. We will be back!"

  • "Went for restaurant week with my girlfriend for our anniversary and we were not let down! Great service, killer cocktails, superb food! 5Church hits all the spots! Plus they are very active on social media! #keepitup"

  • "We really liked the food. The waiter was very friendly, but brought my husband the wrong meal (which he corrected immediately) and brought us a bottle of wine when we ordered only a glass."

  • "The food and wine were delicious as usual! We treated my parents for dinner when they were in Charlotte visiting. Couldn't be happier with our choice!"

  • "Went for restaurant week, was a great night out. Trendy place. A bit noisy but what place isn't these days. Food was great. Service great too. We try to go to a different place each restaurant week but we would consider coming back to this one, worth another try."

  • "Great pic to take friends who are new to Charlotte. Atmosphere is wonderful and service was spectacular"

  • "My husband and I had dinner at 5Church for the first time during Charlotte's Restaurant Week. The pork belly appetizer was quite good, but we're used to having them on steamed buns (a la David Chang's Momofuku restaurants). For entrees, I got the herb chicken and my husband got the hanger steak. The chicken was moist and the mashed potatoes creamy; a sauce gave the dish a touch of sweetness. The hanger steak was cooked to order (medium rare) although the grilled "side" didn't have a lot of flavor, it just tasted charred. For dessert, I had the banana rolls which were very sweet and chocolaty. Since I'm not a big fan of chocolate, I actually liked the cheesecake my husband got better. It was not too sweet or heavy - just right!"

  • "My only disappointment was no white Zinfandel, or any blush, on the wine list"

  • "We went for dinner during restaurant week and we were not let down! I will have to say that the S'mores Trifle was my favorite thing we ate! It tasted like a warm brownie pie with a hint of spice, topped with toasted marshmallow. While enjoying it all, we also really liked the hanger steak and brined chicken. The staff was very helpful. While it was full on a Wednesday, we were sat immediately for our reservation (on time). They had an extensive wine list, which unfortunately I am not able to indulge for a few months. We will be back!"

  • "It was ladies nite out for me during restaurant week. Hard to hear the conversation. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Trendy hot spot. Would go again."

  • "We went to celebrate my husband's new job, and it was also restaurant week. The restaurant is beautiful but extremely loud. They sat us at a more private table and had a card for my husband, which was a nice touch. The service was good. Unfortunately our food was fair at best, and even more unfortunately, pricey for what we got. Both my hanger steak and his monkfish were overcooked. Then I got a dessert because I had ordered off the restaurant week menu, which was a Smores trifle. The brownie in the trifle was so dried out. I can honestly cook better brownies at home. I was disappointed and was hoping for better."

  • "This place is PHENOMENAL. We had never been and figured restaurant week would be a great time to check it out. The food, wine, staff, atmosphere, etc. was so amazing. Our waiter was so knowledgeable about the food and wine. The menu made it so hard to decide because everything sounded so different and delicious. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "My subject says it all. We were here for Queen's Feast, so the price was fine for this outing. I looked over the regular menu and would not even consider this place with those prices. The food is in the 15-30 a plate range at best and they ask way more. I did not like the Hanger Steak at all (I should have known better because that is not a good cut anyway...), but the sides were ok and the dessert was awesome. It was so loud in the restaurant that my girlfriend and I basically yelled to each other the whole time. This is no doubt a result of the music. It was turned up as if it was 11:00PM not 8:00... Our server (her name escapes me) was excellent. She kept out glasses full and checked us in an appropriate manner."

  • "Loved the ambience, food and drinks were amazing! Ordered the viper cocktail which was refreshing and fun. It was restaurant week so the restaurant was packed and quite loud but tolerable. Food is imaginative and well presented. There was valet parking which made the evening much easier as it was raining. I'll go there again for a great food experience."

  • "We just moved uptown and were pleased to find 5Church is within walking distance. It was a wonderful atmosphere, great food, unbelievable desserts, knowledgeable wait staff, and good service. Not so much for children. More for adults. Great for romance and a relaxing, no-rush dinner. Fave dish: The banana spring rolls are AMAZING!"

  • "Service was very good except for the fact that I had to ask for a cup of coffee twice and was almost through with my dessert by the time I got it."

  • "The restaurant was beautiful. The service was good. The food was ok. The bartender left alot to be desired as he didn't know that a lemon drop was a martini. Nonetheless, I would give it another try, I guess."

  • "My husband and I went here for restaurant week, and we both ended up paying a small amount to upgrade our entree to filet mignon. We were SO glad that we did that because it was honestly the most perfect steak I've ever had. I ordered mine medium rare, which it was. The entire inside of the steak was perfectly pink all the way through, and the outside of the steak had a thin seasoned crust. I was amazed by the portion size - it was huge!! The other items we had were good as well, but nothing really compared to how blown away we were by the steaks. Can't wait to go back!!!"

  • "The food was delicious. My appetizer was delicious, the pork belly, but way too small. The main course was outstanding (the salmon) and a good portion size. The dessert was ridiculously yummy (smores)and my hubby's spring roll dessert was also outstanding. The waitress was great, friendly and knowledgeable. One thing that left a bad taste in my mouth is that we arrived early so we went to the bar for a drink. The bartender was quite aloft and looked annoyed when we asked for a drink menu and never smiled or was less than friendly. SHe also seemed annoyed when my husband ordered my wine and only a club soda for himself. Thank goodness the waitress and good food redeemed my first impression of your restaurant."

  • "Our first visit to 5 Church such a wonderful experience. The service, atmosphere and food were all outstanding! Dined during Charlotte Queen's Feast - the menu was diverse showcasing different tastes and offered a great wine pairing option. The staff was very professional and helped us deciding among the tempting choices. The dishes were artfully presented, cooked to perfection and tasty. The memory of this great meal and dining experienced will be in our memory for a while - We will definitely be back!"

  • "Let me first say, it was restaurant week, but still.. We had been looking forward to our reservation for weeks based on reviews from friends. The restaurant has a cool vibe, but that's where it ended for me. I couldn't finish one course before they were just dumping the next one on the table. I literally had appetizer, main course and dessert all sitting in front of me. Like I said, I know it was restaurant week, but could you at least ASK if I was ready for the next course? And the meal itself was unimpressive, up charged for filet that was just sitting on a pile of mashed potatoes. We are true foodies and we won't be back."

  • "I was less than impressed with 5 Church. After hearing great reviews I had big expectations but the food was not up to par. I loved the atmosphere but it was loud and I felt they were trying to rush us through dinner."

  • "We went with another couple for Charlotte Resturant week. We had heard great things about 5Church so our expectation were high. It was a good dinning experience and we will give it another try."

  • "We ate at 5Church on 7/20 after being at the Blumenthal. We both chose from the Queen's Feast menu. The pork belly appetizer was so small that I couldn't get a sense for how it tasted. My salmon with Asian vegetables was a bit overcooked. The Asian vegetables were 95% shaved carrots. My friend has the filet which was very good. The deserts were good but routine."

  • "Food was good... Waitress was excellent and bar and management also great. However, the hostesses were not friendly and never smiled, seriously, quite frankly indifferent toward us, pretty annoying, we had to wait past our resv time almost 20 min and people coming in after us being seated before us, and treated like i was bothering the hostess when I asked when we would be seated, don't know if I would go again..."

  • "Went on a busy Friday night during Queen's Feast week. Service was excellent as usual. Food was a notch below what I've had there before but still good. Potatoes served with my Hangar steak were on the cool side, but flavor was good (the steak was perfect). Wine pairing was nice and overall a good meal for the price."

  • "This was our first time eating at 5Church and we happened to hit it at the start of Queen's Fest. The food was good- nothing over the top except the banana spring roll for dessert (Yum!). Service was very good. Loved the decor, but would probably not choose it for large groups because of the noise level."

  • "The food was great but even after an appetizer and an entree, everyone in the party was still hungry. I would not recommend as a good vegetarian option. Service was exceptional."

  • "My husband and I went there for an early dinner (~5:15pm) on a Saturday night and within 30 minutes the place was packed. The food was incredibly delicious, so I can see why. I ordered the American Kobe Flank Steak with J-1 sauce and it was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the scallops and he really enjoyed the entire meal. You must get the S'mores dessert as it is a piece of heaven!"
