  • Good Ambiance, Average Food

The ambiance and music are great. The service is good, if slow. The food is average. The overall issue is that the majority of our food came out room temperature or cold.

Historically a really good sushi place, has fallen dramatically downhill. I am not sure what happened, but the food was terrible (both hot and raw dishes), service was lacking (we were one of two tables) and while sitting there you just get a feeling this place will not be around much longer. It is sad as my previous visits were quite enjoyable, but I will not be back after this one.

We came here because the Houston Sushi Club seems to like it. The sushi was definitely fresh and very tasty. The specialty rolls were on the pricey side, but they were huge. We definitely over-ordered. We came in early on a Friday night and the place was pretty quiet. Except for some very "energtic" youngsters in the booth next to ours. The screeching pre-teen voices were irritating, but that was more of a parenting issue that something the restaurant could have controlled (although I would have cheered if the manager had said something to the parents!). We'll come back.

We tried Zushi when we purchased a groupon for the restaurant. Overall the food was delicious. We both love sushi and have been looking for a new restaurant in Houston to go to. The two rolls that we got were delicious, and although they were a little pricey the rolls were more ample/bigger than rolls at like azuma or RA. The ambiance and noise was relaxing, but we did go on a Thursday night when it wasn't that crowded. I don't know how it would have been on a weekend. I put the service as very good because they always made sure our drinks were full, but without being intrusive. Overall, we will go there again and try something else. Would recommend as a nice alternative to the chain sushi restaurant

We got a Groupon, so we decided to check it out. We did not have really high expectations for the place, but it turned out quite nicely, and I think this was not the last time we visited this restaurant. The service was good, and the food was great.

Offered food for all types of eaters, not just sushi lovers, quality good, not over priced. Host served food, bartender served drinks. It was fine, except host dressed very casual and did not speak. Took away from a well done interior.

The sushi at Zushi was good. Not fantastic but certainly not bad. We had a couple of traditional rolls and a specialty roll. The area is really nice, it is in a beautiful neighborhood in Houston. The service was satisfactory, again not bad but not memorable either. All in all, Zushi was pretty good but in a city of so many restaurant choices, I am not likely to go back.

We have some favorites at Zushi that are some of the best rolls around. Our favorites; Puff the Magic Dragon with it's unique strawberry topping, Deadliest Catch, Selzer and Golden Buddah. Yum. If you like specialty rolls with really fresh ingredients, go to Zushi !

Service started out difficult but with another server stepping in things smoothed out. The 6 of us moved from a table to the sushi bar. Sushi Chefs Chris & Jay took fantastic care of us all. Their recommendations and combinations were exceptional! ( ...like eel and mango or spicy tuna and avocado...) The food was fresh and completely over the top. The best experience at Zushi is definitely at the sushi bar!

Pretty restaurant, great service.5 course prix fixe meal and each had 1 of 2 choices so we could taste everything.Entree had three choices but since we ended up trading 1 for another we did taste all 3.Salmon carpaccio was great, waipahu carpaccio flavorless. 2nd course, Sunomono Combo nothing special, avocado crab salad really good even though I tend to be put off by imitation crab. Sushi & sashimi, fresh but not much flavor to any fish.Filet with fois gras-warned there was no fois gras and could they sub scallops.Ok steak was not filet but something like hanger steak-Overcooked, grey appearance, flavorless.Redone bass came back less overcooked.Salmon replacement overcooked, not good flavors.Tempura desserts overcrusted. They did comp part.

I decided, for the first time, to try Zushi over the weekend. I had no idea what to expect so I left myself wide open to absorb everything. To my amazement, I was surprised that I had never been here before! I sat at the sushi bar - service and conversation with Chef Nemoto was excellent. I learned SO much. The value, in relation to the menu, was perfect. In Houston, you rarely get what you pay for...with Zushi, you do. I could choose a wide variety of whatever I wanted and the sushi was fresh. I watched them prepare it in front of my eyes. Highly recommend. If you've never been there...give it a shot.

The food was good, but the ambiance was not what we had hoped for. Psychedelic music in a Japanese restaurant is not what you expect. We asked to change the music but the manager told us that it was to attract a certain audience. He certainly succeeded. Our waiter was very friendly but has still a lot to learn. Will not go back.

We had taken a cooking class with Chef Nemoto so I decided to take my date here as a surprise. I don't think the chef remembered us but he was very helpful with suggestions. Because I can not eat anything spicy, he offered to customize the special Zushi House Roll. It was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the Tuna Crunch Roll, Unagi Maki, Bacon Wrapped Asparagus and Shrimp Tempura Roll. All were wonderful! We will definitely go back!

    Dined on 2/11/2012
Overall the food and service was good. Since I chose to make reservations via Open Table for Valentine's dinner, I was expecting a little more romantic seating. Instead, we were seated along a bench with small tables and two chairs across, making this arrangement more for a lunch crowd. There were booths and as we were leaving, some of them were set up as Reserved. Was hoping that would be how Open Table would work if we used this service.

I will definitely come back for another date night with the honey or bring the girl's to here to start out our girl's night out.

We visited Zushi with two other couples. While my wife and I have had dinner at Zushi several times, neither couple had eaten there before. Our waiter was very good. He was very attentive and played off the jovial mood of our group. The seaweed salad was awesome, the sake was great, and the sushi rolls were perfect. Everyone enjoyed the experience. Tip: If you plan to frequent Zushi, be sure to sign up for their VIP club. It's free and will earn you a 10 percent discount.

My experience there was quite awful. They were extremely slow and our waitress didn't even bring us utensils or water until we had to ask her for them. They said that the kitchen was slow; however, tables all around us, even though they arrived 25minutes after us, were receiving multiple courses. I understand that each item on the menu has a different prep time, but this was ridiculous. Plus, when we received our food it was apparent that it had been sitting out for a while. The cold items and the warm items were both room temperature. That's not the way I like my sushi.I will never go there again.

Wonderful effort on the part of our server, who seemed to be handling at least half the restaurant on his own. The sushi bar was overwhelmed, so the dishes came out in an unusual order. The HRW menu is very good, and the sea bass was delicious, perfectly cooked. We'll definitely go back, not on a Friday, and on time for our reservation. (we were unavoidably delayed getting to the restaurant, I called right away, but we still lost our table so sat in the bar) Can't wait for the patio to open and hope the staffing will be up to the task.
