54 MintOur Friends Were Impressed54 Mint was at its best on Friday night. We were treating some old friends--one of whom is a winemaker who brought a bottle of his wine. The manager took a friendly and gracious interest in him and his winery. All of us were made to fee special. And our meals were delicious.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFamily of 5We had a wonderful dinner at 54 Mint! Had an early reservation, 5:45pm, naturally quiet but became more busy quickly. We ate downstairs in the converted dining room surrounded by great music & creative decorating for an overall very comfortable space. The food was delicious, from specials to the regular menu, and the service was very good as well. The wine selection was great & the Italian soda was a hit with the family. NIce design in the bar upstairs bringing a fun atmosphere in the restaurant. We will definitely stop by on our next trip to San Francisco!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMUneven service but great foodUneven service, perhaps not enough servers plus a little unpolished (could not get server to understand I was not attempting to order a Syrah-Cab blend but simply describing a type of wine we like that he could possibly use for reference to suggest an similar Italian wine) but the food was excellent. Crisp salads, flavorful octopus, good al dente pasta and light as a cloud tiramisu. We are "foodies"and give Mint 54 the thumbs up.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding foodTitle of review says it all--very well prepared dishes. Generous appetizers. Selection is a bit limited--but all dishes seem to be winners. Our party of four had five items--all great.
To consider--brick walls make it a noisy place.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect AnniversaryThis is our favorite place for special occasions. I am so happy we found this place. Amazing food, great ambience and a truly wonderful dinning experience.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious foodAside from my pork chop and having chance to sample a range of steak, to gnochi, carpaccio... All were delicious!!! I'm going back for sure6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and great use of space. We really loved this place. Nice vibe, great use of space and design. Food was wonderful. Nice Italian wine list. Service was very prompt even with the Apple Developers confab going on in town. Excellent value for the $$$.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food deserves better serviceFood here is excellent but wait staff is too busy hanging around the pretty hostess to bring it to you.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner! Appetizers andGreat dinner! Appetizers and entrees were fresh and creatively paired. Especially enjoyed the octopus salad! Service prompt and friendly -6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMauthentic italianive been twice and the food is authentically roman with pasta consistency you typically never find in the usa. And very tasty.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA taste of ItalyVery pleasant spur of the moment find for us! A small yet authentic flare for an Italian restaurant Delicious tiramisu and homemade pasta. The Italian waiters were attentive - but remember to ask for bread - it's not served otherwise. Husband had halibut with roasted cherry tomatoes which he Said was delicious. Nice presentation.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and even better serviceThis little restaurant South of Market was a fun find. The flat bread was, as others have mentioned, truly delicious, as was the assorted salumi plate. We tried three of the main dishes between the four of us and each was a treat. The steak and fresh Halibut were both delicious and while the beef cheek raviolis had strong flavor it was balanced by the cream sauce.
Murphy was our waiter and he was outstanding. He was pleasant, defferential and always seemed to be there at just the right time.
The wine cellar, while tight, was spartan yet charming.
This place is not cheap, but if you are looking for some creative Italian served in a friendly atmosphere, you might want to check out 54 Mint.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AM54 Mint was excellentLocated in a slightly rough area between Market and Mission, in the Mint Plaza surrounded by historic buildings (some in shocking disrepair!), this is a vibrant, fun Italian place with great food. At first I didn't encounter any Italians (not the hostess nor the waiters) but upon leaving, I did meet the owner who greeted me in Italian and shook my hand. Very friendly. We started with the baccala, wonderful fried balls of salt cod and potato with a nice tangy sauce. Then I had the biggest and best lamb shank I have ever had, succulently braised in red wine, delicious! My husband had delicately floured and fried softshell crabs, which he loved. We should not have ordered dessert (creme brulee and a rhubarb strawberry tart) but we did. GREAT!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMBasement seatingOverall the food and service were good but having to sit in the basement was not so desirable especially when there were a number of open tables on the ground floor area..5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent meal - will definitelyExcellent meal - will definitely go there again on my next visit to San Francisco!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious! The fettechini was amazing and my boyfriend's fish was cooked to perfection, he couldn't stop talking about it.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat place54Mint has excellent food and service. The dining area is very intimate due to its small capacity seating and elegantly rustic look. The food is worth the price listed due to its overall size of portion and flavor. The only con, if you could call it one, is their limited open bar.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA terrific find -A terrific place for a wonderful evening with friends. Our waiter was helpful with very good advice about the menu, every dish was delicious and true to the best of northern Italian cuisine. Wine list - modest prices, excellent. Definitely a favorite for the last 3 years, highly recommend 54 Mint!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMRestaurant food is outstanding,Restaurant food is outstanding, but the noise level awful. It is at times hard to hear your table guests when they talk. It would be great if the management were to try and tone the noise level down, with cloth, hanging from the ceiling and walls, it would so much better and add the level of enjoyment.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were very happy with theWe were very happy with the service and food. Great before going to Yerba Buena Center for Ballet, Music, etc.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMHow great to find an outstandingHow great to find an outstanding restaurant two short blocks from The Warfield! Wonderful menu, numerous selctions perfect for our vegetarian friends. Great Manhattan and fresh halibut for me. Loud, but, we all just talked louder! We'll be back!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite placesOne of my favorite places in SF. The food is spectacular. The service is attentive but not intrusive. My pork chop was cooked to perfection. My partner's pasta was al dente, and the ingredients were fresh and top notch. This was my fourth time at 54 Mint, and it never disappoints. I love the room as well.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this placeLove this place. Have been with my friend who is a vegetarian. We always find something interesting on the menu that we can both share. Usually sit at the bar and the staff there are really wonderful.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFast service, food came faster,Fast service, food came faster, and the food we ordered was delicious! Jennifer recommended a wine from our last visit that complimented well with the food. Highly recommended place!4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a special dinner forWe had a special dinner for a group at 54 Mint, honoring a friend's recent retirement. We had requested a special table in as quiet a spot as possible. The restaurant complied by providing a larger table in the basement, which is marginally less noisy than the upstairs main dining room. It wasn't as quiet as I'd hoped, or as intimate as I was led to believe from the ads and conversations with the restaurant. But, we had excellent food, service, wine, and an overall lovely experience. I will definitely return, but more likely with a younger, more noise-friendly crowd. The space is simply a bit too loud for casual conversation, even in its quiet spots.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AM54 Mint is a nice, small and54 Mint is a nice, small and cozy Italian/Mediterranian restaurant. However, the noise level was high and the menu is limited. My dining partner had the gnocci special which was very good. However, the restaurant was out of the lamb and I ordered the pork chop which the waiter stated was one of his favorite menu items. Well, the pork chop was enormously thick (~1.5") and I could barely cut into it with a steak knife. Needless to say, it was very tough. I mentioned it to the waiter and he did not offer to take it back or do anything about it. Disappointing. I would not return to 54 Mint.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fantastic dinnerWe had a fantastic dinner here. Our group was four adults and two kids and the restaurant accommodated our many requests with ease. The food was delicious - I recommend trying as many different dishes as possible. Standouts were the salads, the burrata and asparagus starter, the flatbread of the day, and every one of the the pastas we tried - oxtail ragu, regular ragu (for the kids) and the black pepper pasta.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AM
