Diner Reviews
  • "The downstairs venue is a perfect replica of a supper club from an earlier era ... Vibrant and warm, and must be a great place to see a show! We were there for a pre-theatre dinner, and look forward to another visit for music one evening. -- The menu is not vast but our party had a variety of items and there was lots of sharing, and ooo-ing and yumming! The risotta was very good, the chicken juicy and the lasagna tasty. Service was friendly and timely."

  • "Overall a bit expensive but food was good and restaurant was nice. We had reservation for 5:00 and they weren't quite ready to seat us yet. A lot of performers were there, eating their meal before they perform their show. We left before any entertainment started because we had tickets for a broadway how. There was a big stage and I would have liked to see what they were going to do."

  • "The atmosphere is fantastic and our food was great. I had the trout and my friend had the hanger steak and yucca fries. Both wonderful. Had a signature cocktail called the Pencillan. Also good. We sat at a community table which, while fine, I was not prepared for. Would have appreciated that information beforehand. Loved our waiter. Would definitely come back for a show."

  • "54 Below is a true New York experience. The Supper Club atmosphere is exciting and the ambience, service and food are exceptional. Michael Shef, General Manager, is the most gracious and professional presence I have encountered in quite some time in a New York restaurant. His staff mirrors his style and is there to please. The wines selected for us by Michael perfectly suited our meal. It is the perfect place to dine when you are either going to Studio 54, the theatre or spending the evening there enjoying the entertainment."

  • "We greatly enjoyed the ambiance as soon as we walked in the door. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the drinks strong! We had 5 o'clock reservations before our Broadway show and we had plenty of time to sit and just enjoy the food and drinks. We were so pleased that we chose 54 Below for dinner during our long weekend in New York."

  • "Dinner was very good. The service was good. This place is known for its' entertainment at night. Therefore they are sometimes very busy. In order to get more people in, they will seat other couples at your table if it is just the two of you. That is fine with us. We just wish we knew about it beforehand. In the middle of dinner another couple suddenly appear out of nowhere. It turned out fine but it took a while."

  • "We had heard about 54 Below and the great shows you can see there. What we didn't realize was what a great value it is, with entrees ranging from $23-27 including sides where appropriate. The only downside is that there is t much room between the tables. Coat checking is mandatory and makes for a traffic j on the way out after a performance, but the food, service, and ambiance are all excellent."

  • "Convenient to the theaters. Not exactly a place Phil Robertson would go to."

  • "We only ate there and did not do the show which may explain why we're given a poor table. But we were moved as soon as I asked to be. The food and service was good and it was a good start to the evening"

  • "One does not necessarily go to 54 Below for its food, BUT the food is far more than just adequate. It is, however, the atmosphere and the cabaret acts that are the principal attraction. The setting is decidedly Cabaret and that we ate there during the revival run of Cabaret, made it great fun. The wait staff looks as if it is about to dash off to do the show. The service is superb, vivacious and theatrically entertaining."

  • "Everything about this place was great... We showed up early for our reservation and they still sat us. Food was fantastic. We are a variety of things from the menu just to see if seething was better than another, and we loved it all... Service is great, ambiance is lovely... Will gladly go back soon!"

  • "I dined at Below 54 with my family and friends (pre-show). The communal tables unnerved me at first as I don't usually dine in this fashion, but it wound up being quite refreshing dining with strangers and making connections, sharing stories and laughs. The wait staff was quite attentive and courteous and made sure that they kept us on track to make our show. My party had the steak and lobster entrée and all were quite pleased. We ended our meal with two trays of assorted cookies and two bowls 3 scoop ice cream. We loved the Mocha and Caramel flavors."

  • "Tried this place because of Open Table. From welcoming as we entered to gracious service to delicious food, it was a wonderful experience...and not too noisy at 6PM. The squash soup and rattitoile with boiled egg atop was one of most delicious dished I'd ever eaten, a"

  • "The food was good, but nothing to write home about. Service was just ok...they rushed us and even said others would be joining us at our table less than 90 minutes after we arrived. This was over an hour before the scheduled show. We decided to finish quickly and leave. We likely won't be back unless there is a show we really want to see at the venue."

  • "54 Below, a wonderful cabaret, is not just for entertainment. The pre-theater dinner is perfect for those who are not staying for the early show there, but going on to City Center or someplace else in the area. Reservations may be made for 5 p.m., insuring a leisurely meal before leaving for a 7 p.m. curtain. The service is friendly and efficient, but you don't feel rushed. The menu is not extensive, but there are enough choices to satisfy different tastes, and the results are delicious."

  • "Made our pre-theater reservation at the suggestion of OpenTable.com as the restaurant was walking distance from our hotel. The descent from street level helped the anticipation. Restaurant was well-lit with a red-velvety feel that belies it's existence as a performance music venue. We decided to go with the three course prix-fixe menu, entrees consisting of two choices, halibut or hanger steak. Both were delicious; the portions were on the small side. The only disappointment was the "wine pairing" with dinner. We were offered a choice of a red or a white and that was it for the meal, not a pairing of courses, although dessert was paired with a delicious tawny port. All in all, a good value. Another time would stay for the show."

  • "We were seeing Big Fish on 52nd so stopped at 54 Below for a meal. For me, the Manhattan was tasty and the fish was delicious and just enough. We both had plum sorbet for dessert, which was yummy and light. Service was very good, although I'm not certain I finished my drink before it was taken away! The decor is well done, the lighting comfortable yet still bright enough to easily read. Rather more expensive than I would have liked or consider necessary, but the location is so good I'm sure that won't stop anyone."
