  • "Rainy, miserable long weekend Sunday so we decided to treat ourselves and our daughter to a nice dinner. It made the terrible weather seem irrelevant. Great ambiance and delicious dinner."

  • "I booked a resevation there on July 1. Glad it was opened on holiday. The service was ok. Steaks was the best so far . But they put us on a small room filled with two another stranger's tables. It made the atmostphere very uncomfortable and everyone seems to tried to keeps it down because we were too close to each other. Didnt like the seats"

  • "Service was great and so was the food. Got there early and it was quiet for 90% of our stay. Rod is an exceptional waiter was quite helpful with the menu. Was a super way to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary."

  • "While our dining experience was good, and the food was excellent, one of the parties at our table was a little taken aback on two areas of cleanliness. Our waiter, while very knowledgeable and friendly, was wearing a uniform that really could have used laundering. Also, when the condiments were brought for the baked potato (sour cream/bacon/chives) it was quite noticeable that the serving dish was not very clean and perhaps could have been wiped off prior to bringing it to the table. These are small things - but important ones."

  • "Exceptional food, excellent service, beautiful surroundings, fabulous dining experience!"

  • "Have never had a bad experience at this restaurant until this one. One appetizer was not as generous as it usually is. Steaks left in hallway cooling off while waiter chit chatted and poured wine at another table Meat was not trimmed properly. Mashed sweet potatoes were cold and when they returned after pointing this out they were too hot and arrived after we ate most of our meal. No discount given on them. I hope this experience this was just an anomaly."

  • "Our most favorite thing to do - dining with our children - was extra special this past Sunday. We were privileged to enjoy the 529 experience - the building, the perfectly prepared soups, the tender and tasty beef, and the excellent choices in side dishes. An unforgettable dining experience that made our family dinner one to talk about in future conversations."

  • "9th time my wife and I have been at 529, with past experiences being memorable. This time not so much. We had a first time couple with us this time too, so they didn't really know that this was sub par for 529. The 3 appetizers were the best part of our meals. Mini Prime Rib stuffed Yorkshires were awesome, as was the Carpachio and Long Dry Ribs. My 22 oz Peppercorn Ribsteak was over cooked, riddled with grissle and all you could taste was peppercorn. Wife had filet & prawns and only her prawns were note worthy. The other couple liked their filet & lobster tail and the Veal Chop, but they are used to eating at Pony Corral, so they should have been impressed. The Spanish Red Wine chosen for us was INCREDIBLE. Our Server was excellent"

  • "It is what it is. Really good, top quality steak, prepared exactly as you like it. But this is nothing more than a backyard chef can do with a good barbecue and a trip to a gourmet grocery store. The decor is charming — a 102-year-old mansion built for one of Winnipeg's early elite. The service is attentive (as it should be, given what even just a 15 per cent tip will add up to). But the meal will not inspire you. It will not transport you — other than the rush you get when you realize you just paid $10 for a baked potato. Granted, it is a large baked potato. All the way from Idaho. But still... IMHO, you go there to be seen going there, or to boast about going there. You don't go there for the food."

  • "I found529 Wellington an em joyful dining experience. The prices were great especially comparing it to other chains who do not have the ambience or class of this restaurant. We were habing a firls lunch on the patio and had plenty of time to talk and enjoy and were never rushed out. The wait had a somewhat superior attitude however did a very good job. The waiter whom we didn't have was fun, open and had a friendly attitude as we asked him a few questions. An over all very nice experience."

  • "This allegedly high-end resto let us down. Our party of three ordered our beef medium rare. The two New York strips came that way. The prime rib was rare. The waiter promptly wisked it away, returning after a wait with the same piece of meat and garnishes - the meat having been browned on the flattop. Only upon further complaint did the waiter offer to bring a properly cooked portion, which ought to have been the first response. Given the prices charged, I cannot recommend 529. I wish it were otherwise."

  • "Everything was wonderful about the dinner, except I had the air conditioner blowing right on me and another member at out table. We did ask for it to be turned down. They did at one point do this but 30 min. later it was turned on again. this would definitely be something I would mention when making my reservation next time … I would ask not to be seated next to a vent."

  • "Can always count on 529 for a great meal for a special occasion"

  • "Two of us went for lunch after receiving a gift card. This is a very nice place. By a little after noon the place was full. I had the steak sandwich with onion rings, which was very good. Steak was done to perfection. One small negative to the steak was that it was a bit too salty for me as I use little to no salt with my meals. Onion soup with a bit of port was excellent. My wife had the reuben sandwich with salad and it was also excellent. For dessert we had the bread pudding and chocolate cheesecake. Both were very tasty. Service was attentive and professional. It was a little noisy at times. This is a high end restaurant so expect to pay a premium dollar but for a special occasion or treat it is well worth it."

  • "I took my wife here for a surprise for her birthday. The atmosphere was superb, we enjoyed ourselves very much. The food was excellent, my wife had the Mini Yorkshires stuffed with Prime Rib au jus for appetizer...she said it was very salty. I had the Jumbo Prosciutto Wrapped Scallops, they were absolutely fantastic. The only complaint on the meal was my wife's steak was undercooked, she ordered it Medium and it was rare. The waiter...I believe his name was Dale, was absolutely terrible. He kept forgetting things...he forgot what my wife had ordered for app and for side. Then when I asked for a coffee with sweetener and milk all I got was black coffee."

  • "First time going here with my spouse; the food, service and presentation was top notch, service staff were great...but they seated us next to 2 large, noisy groups which made the experience rather unenjoyable. The tables are too close together with very little privacy!"

  • "Despite reading other reviews that stated the same, I took the advise of friends who stated it would be a good choice for a special occasion meal. The ambiance and service was good but the food (party of 5 so we sampled a variety) was generally ok but nothing above the Keg level. Vegetables were served in bowls without any effort of presentaion . The asperagus was still partially raw and the spinach mundane. I was happy with the service and the facility itself. A good restaurant if you have very deep pockets and want to impress someone providing they are not "foodies" or have eaten at similar price-point restaurants in other cities. This would not survive a year in any of Canada's largest 5 cities based on price and quality. "

  • "Our evening comprised of a quaint romantic 3 table room for couples. We had the room to ourselves and enjoyed the exquisite service and gastronomic feast!! An evening to remember!!"

  • "I took my mom for Mother's Day, hoping for a memorable experience. It was great. The decor is very well-suited to the neighbourhood and the service is beyond reproach. Our server was friendly and very engaging and attentive. As a premier steak house, we both had the steak and it was cooked to perfection and the flavour was remarkable, I don't think I've had a better steak in Winnipeg. I wish my wife was a beef eater, as the facility lends itself to romantic dinners. Being built in an old mansion means there are only small groups of tables as opposed to a single large open area. It's quiet and easy to converse with your companions."

  • "We again took one of our granddaughters here to celebrate her birthday. She's 11 and this was her 4th time. The other times it was Hys and Manitoba Club. This is her favourite. From their reward for passing the "white Gloves test" at age 6 all 3 have acquired a fine dining taste. Thank You for another special evening. "

  • "We were at 529 for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. The waitress was excellent as she realized we wanted to visit so she did her job but left us alone to do our visiting. Everyone's food was very tasty & we couldn't resist ordering the blueberry bread pudding for dessert. It lived up to its reputation- excellent."

  • "From the moment we walked in the atmosphere was delightful. Hostess was kind and server was very knowledgeable about the menu. The Prime Canadian Meats we ordered were cooked to perfection as requested. Overall food was delicious and tasty. "

  • "Questionable open faced sirloin sandwich offered as the lunch "special". Grisly, fatty tough, very little tenderloin - nasty product. Henry 8 may share a physique with 529's restauranteur owner DS but not a beef supplier. No one would knight their beef supplier "Sir" Loin. Likely false advertising Grade #1 Beef REALLY ??? Leftover low grade beef product from 'Celebrations Dinner Theater' is still nasty wether or not it is politely presented in a lovely heritage building on Wellington Crescent. "

  • " Again I must say...It was delightful! The service again impeccable(Jeff). The food was also delicious. It was our anniversary and my husbands first time there, he loved it!The ice wine for an added touch was nice too :) Thanks again 529 for a wonderful experience....."

  • "With several visits a year here we experienced the worst steak. We have been regulars of 529 for many years. Our steak was tasteless and the beef Carpaccio wasn't the same. Needless to say 529 is not what it used to be. "

  • "Had a great evening, the portion size was excellent and every dish was memorable. I would rather go to one dinner at 529 than two or three at other restaurants. Truly in a class on its own in Winnipeg."

  • "I took my parents to 529 Wellington for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The evening went very well from the time that we arrived until we completed our meals. The staff was very attentive and well informed regarding the menu. The show-and-tell session involving the cuts offered was also very helpful. The evening was a great success and we will remember our experience for years to come. We highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion."

  • "I took my family to 529 last Sunday and the meals were superb. We feasted on the best Tenderloin with side dishes of sautéed mushrooms, steamed broccoli, asparagus and entrees of oysters and smoked salmon. Our waiter was awesome and didn't miss a beat when my 26 year old son asked "what can you tell me about this tower of onion rings?" It turned out to be a tower of onion rings :) This was fine dining at it's best. Our reason for celebrating was my retirement from the Winnipeg Police Service after 28 years. It couldn't have ended any better. "

  • "Still an interesting venue for fine dining, great atmosphere, great service, quality of food for the price seems to have degenerated since our last visit. The porterhouse was mediocre at best, have had better quality and tasting steaks in much cheaper restaurants. Soup was very good, and my wife enjoyed the fish special. The beefsteck tomatoe and onion blue cheese dressing did not seem fresh made but more packaged. Overall a pleasant experience but a little pricey for what we got."

  • "We've started coming for drinks and dinner in the lounge; it's the perfect combination of the 529 dining experience with a slightly more relaxed atmosphere. The only thing better than the food is the service: attentive without being obsequious or intrusive. Looking forward to next time."

  • "My wife and I went out for her Birthday, we have a young one at home so going out is a rariety. We were looking to have a nice, relaxing, but fun evening and to be honest, felt a little out of place walking in there as it's not like we can afford to dine there too often. Our server, Marnie was unbelievably helpful with the menu, the wine, and at the end of it all when she brought our bill, she graciously stated that she sensed we were celebrating a special occassion so she took care of our dessert for us. A small gesture that went a long way! Everything else was top-notch!"
