The food was excellent. I had the wood grilled mahi mahi with grilled asparagus and a couscous-based tabouleh; my wife had the wood grilled salmon with vegetables. She had a minor difficulty in that she asked for her fish to be cooked medium and it came out underdone. It took a while for the waiter to check back but he then did correct the problem promptly. I'm a fan of American craft-brewed IPAs and they had Bear Republic Racer 5 on tap--delightful. We split a chocolate mousse and were satisfied but not overly full (we certainly didn't want to fall asleep during the play!). As always, our meal was great. They were even able to accommodate a dietary request for one of our diners without question. The portions were perfect and the service was excellent. I have been dining at 518 for years and will continue to make it one of my favorite places in Raleigh. This is also a great place for brunch. The mix of people is exciting any time of day. My wife and I celebrated our 22nd Wedding Anniversary on 05/18. We love eating at 518 West. It didn't dawn on us that 518 is also the date of our wedding and that we were eating there on 05/18. When we went to make our reservations on OpenTable, we saw the name and the date. We don't know why it took this long to figure out since we like eating there so much.
Okay, enough personal stuff. About the food...FANTASTIC! My favorite dish is the Lemon Linguine. We both like the Crab Dip. We hope they bring back the Wild Mushroom Polenta. If not we'll take the Shrimp Polenta instead. We arrived and were promptly directed to our seating location which proved to be idle. The low noise atmosphere and quality service enhanced the brunch orders that were served not only timely but were delicious. Our server did an outstanding job.
I'll also add that we had a birthday celebration within the group and notification was provided to the host when the reservation was made. No other notification was delivered and sure enough following brunch the server immediately brought out a birthday celebration desert as a surprise that we could all share.
