  • "We eat out a lot, in many cities, and it's great to have a place like this in red deer. The food and service impressed us both, and we are excited to go back for another date to try some of the other menu items."

  • "The chefs at this place are amazing. The food quality is the best in town, great flavours, great menu too. I'm not used to seeing this in red deer. It is a welcomed change. We all need to support this restaurant, and spread the word. It's a keeper!"

  • "Was a very nice evening. The food was pretty good, nothing real spectacular but good. The service was great, our server was very knowledgeable and recommended an amazing wine for us. Best service we've had in Red Deer in some time."

  • "We here in Red Deer have been waiting for a great place downtown. We haven't had a bad meal/experience there yet. The shortrib is outstanding. Great salads. The service is always top shelf. Young, earnest guys who know their stuff. I think they should chill down their red wines a bit, but just request this ahead if you like it a bit less warm. Both desserts we had were not the fake kind you too often find these days; fresh and warm. Overall, a place with city sensibilities: ambience, food, wine, all with a kind of prairie class."

  • "Great little place in the heart of downtown. It is fairly compact and therefore a little noisy but the food was awesome and we will definitely be going back."

  • "hidden on Ross street is this amazing, quiet little restaurant with exceptional food, and a very knowledgeable waiter. the caramelized salmon was great, but could use more than the 2 small vegetables on the side. outstanding wine list. must recommend the red Australian fighting flats. top it off with their chocolate cherry mousse and you'll be coming back the next night! music could be turned down a bit though... highly recommend it!"

  • "the food pairings were great, mussels and frites, lambshank with claui/ptoatoe puree, outstanding lobster/crab risotto. Major draw back was the quailty of the products. The mussels we not fresh, the charcuterie should have been made in house. Just thinking they need to source better and then it would be a home run for red deer foodies."

  • "We were very impressed with the see ice from Logan, and enjoyed our meal tremendously. Looking forward to returning soon "

  • "waited for 20 mins before anyone took our drink order, food portions were VERY small, drinks were watered down, wife never got what she ordered, hostest did however take care of the bill but we struggle to go out because of this reason. Would like to try the Bistro again but not for the cost and portions of food, the service scares us..."

  • "went with a group of 8 and was very disappointed 2 people had the Cornish game hen which was well ................. like Cornish jerky it was so overcooked. 2 people had the lobsters pasta and it was cold and tasted like glue. 1 person had a steak and the grill was not hot enough and it was like it was boiled no carmilization. the veggie cannoli was ok as well as the chicken special but for the price it should have been much better. I took out of town clients for supper and it did not help with my project. service staff was a little better than average but food was very disappointing"

  • "Was quiet, but nice. We had great service and delicious food. Definately a unique restaurant for Red Deer. "

  • "Went for dinner with the lady, everything was excellent. Duck framboise was perfectly cooked and the wine Michael our server recommended to pair with it was delicious. I will definitely return for another date night!"

  • "Pretty good for newer restaurant. Been 3 times now and only thing really missing is enough waiters to serve the tables. Very professional and friendly service just spread way too thin to provide the service level expected with the high end food and pricing "

  • "We had ordered mussels which at times had a odd taste. Where we were sitting was at the top of the stairs, as the kitchen is downstairs. It was warm there as the heat rising from downstairs. Our water glasses were not filled promptly. Ran out of water, had to ask"

  • "My boyfriend and I just moved from calgary and we were very pleased to find a little spot like this! The food is delicious and the service was spectacular! We went for our anniversary and we had a great time, cool atmosphere and amazing food. Would definitely come here many more times! Can't wait for the new menu, we will definitely be back soon!! "

  • "We went on Friday and had the scallops for an appetizer that were very good. We both had the special of the evening which was red snapper with a lobster tarragon cream sauce that was delicious. We had the gingerbread cake for dessert which was yummy!!!! The prices were a little high but the food was good and I guess because there really isn't much for good dining in Red Deer they can get away with the prices. Our server was very pleasant and knowledgeable though a little busy as he was the only one I the restaurant."

  • "There will only about 15 tables. Very small but very well decorated and great service. Good and wine were very good. Would defiantly recommend to friends and family."

  • "50 west bistro was an experience. I would recommend this restaurant for the food and character. Our waiter was friendly but had problems pouring our drinks. First he dripped wine across the table, then not once but twice he poured beer too quickly and the glass overflowed all over the table. He just needed more experience with pouring drinks. The restaurant was a bit too crowded for our taste. As space is limited would be nice if there was somewhere to put your coat. But all said the food was excellent and we would return."

  • "Great little place downtown, good addition to the city, liked varied menu choices, only drawback is space is very limited with the exception of one group table so best for singles or couples."

  • "I'm glad 50 west opened up in red deer downtown area. We needed something like that for a long time. Highly recommend !!"

  • "One of the few quaint establishments downtown. The atmosphere is great, it’s easy to find and is well poised to suit many with its eclectic menu. The drinks were good, the service was very good, and the food was average. Overall, it’s as good an option as any other for that special night out"

  • "Glad to have this option in red deer! We will become regulars! Everything was great, highly recommended!"

  • "I chose this restaurant based on others reviews as I didn't even know of it. When I got to the address I was very skeptical due to its location in an old part of downtown Red Deer, and the building, but since I had made renovations, I went in. What a beautiful surprise! The atmosphere was great, and the service was awesome! We ordered the chips with guacamole for an appetizer, and the waiter came right to the table with a mortar and made it fresh right in front of us! The food had a wonderful presentation, and the menue hD some interesting choices!"

  • "Don't get me wrong - I was pretty excited that Red Deer had a new, higher end dining opportunity. However, I was very disappointed in the quality of the food. It was expensive and lacked imagination. It's the kind of menu that would have been impressive 25 years ago. The red wine was warm, not cellar temperature. With most of the entrees in the mid-thirty dollar range, I expected more. The room itself was very attractive. I hope that the they can take both the menu and the food quality up a few notches. Then I might try 50 West again."

  • "Excellent Server who knew her stuff and was most helpful. Fresh baked buns were very nice but a bit large for the filling. Soup was wonderful - rich and flavourful! Service was prompt. I'll return! Closed for Saturday lunch which is a shame."

  • "It's nice to have somewhere a little more upscale in Red Deer! The wine recommendation was spot on! I had the beet salad which was delicious and the salmon, it was a touch overcooked but tasty, my mother had the steak which was very tasty and we got the lobster risotto side which was delicious! For dessert I had the peach melba which was a nice lite way to end my meat, my mom had the ginger cake, it was very gingery but also tasty! I would definitely recommend this new place to everyone to try! I think it is great and will get better with time!! Make sure you have at least 3 courses as the portions are small in keeping with the French multiple course way of eating!"

  • "This restaurant was a breath of fresh air. Food, service, atmosphere was all fantastic. We were a group of 4 that really enjoyed ourselves. Our server Logan gave us some of the best service we have had in a long time. This place is great for evening drinks or for a nice dinner."

  • "From the moment we walked in, a great experience. the hostess was friendly and attentive, the server knew how to do what he needed to please us. The restaurant was quite busy when we arrived, we were glad to have reservations. The food was really worthwhile. I had the duck framboise, and my wife had the Smoked Porkchop. both were fantastic. The wine list was quite good with many interesting wines on it. Dessert was amazing! we shared the Cherries Jubilee. It was so nice to see a restaurant that just wants to make great food, and provide a great experience. No Doubt this place will be very successful."
