Diner Reviews
  • "Hamburger-chain sandwiches with many choices of beer. A lively, efficient refueling stop, not a lot more."

  • "Place feels like a sub-urban chain. Poor quality of food and service."

  • "This is one of our regular places to go. Of the three locations in Manhattan this is our favorite. Just seems more consistent than the other two. Great food, great staff, always good!"

  • "I have reviewed this location previously & recommend it. All locations are a bit noisy w/ loud music & this particular one seems to be geared to 25-25 year old groups. Food is very good, w/ quick service. Burgers, chicken & soup etc are all very good."

  • "I've eaten here several times, usually with friends before a movie at Regal Cinema on Union Square. The food is always delicious. I especially like the lettuce wraps that allow gluten free people like me to enjoy a burger. Usually, the waiters are quite pleasant. It's odd that I always have to ask at least twice to get some mayo and mustard on the side. I guess they are just crazy busy."

  • "It is a very good restaurant and a great place to bring friends for a special occasion. i say special occasion because it is a quite pricey place but it is totally worth it. So if you have the extra cash, it will not go to waste here."

  • "I LOVE 5 Napkin Burger. I love it so much that I always order the same thing, the burger salad. Although I enjoyed it , it wasn't was good as the other locations. I can't put my finger on it but it just wasn't as delicious as usual. Although this location is much more organized and less packed and they don't rush you out the door as in the other locations."

  • "We always enjoy a good hamburger & 5 Napkin didnt disappoint. The burgers were juicy & cooked perfectly. The milk shakes were amazing- tasty & thick. French fries were cooked perfect but the onion rings were just "eh"."

  • "Appetizer was cold and the 2nd (then hot) plate was delivered wíth main course making it a side and not an appetizer. it was way to loud to have a conversation and service was not proactive at all."

  • "Burgers were cooked just right and were very tasty... service was very good. My drink was awesome as well."

  • "We come here frequently after movies & shopping. Very good service & food, not expensive. Bring families, friends, kids (during the day). This location attracts a lot of 20-30ish downtown hipsters because of the local club scene."

  • "I am a guy that loves burgers and this is one of the best burger spots. I have been coming here for years so figured I would finally review it. If you have not tried it yet, then all I can ask is WHY?!"

  • "I went on a date and it was beautifully quiet. Nice and empty. The reasurants wine and liquer list was yummy and the burger was ok. I would have thought that since it was called five napkin burger, id need at least five napkins. the burger was kind of dry and i had to douse it with ketchup to gain some kind of flavor."

  • "Great place to have had a reasonably priced, delicious dinner. Our server was fabulous. So pleasant and so very accommodating. We didn't feel rushed and had a nice leisurely dinner. I think their burgers are the best I have ever had. Flavorful, not too enormous, great garnishes. Everything from gruyere cheese to carmelized onions. It is my one and only burger place!"

  • "Fries were very good but standard burger could have used more seasoning."

  • "Everywhere else in the East Village was dead except here. It was hustle bustle. Despite the crowd, the burgers turned out excellent. The service was a bit slow but given the holiday that was understandable. A good option for Christmas lunch but make a reservation! It was packed and people were waiting for tables."

  • "We were early and greeted with smiles; seated promptly. Restaurant was humming and could have used more servers, but ours was pleasant and professional. One of our orders was slightly complicated and they got it absolutely right. We were not in a hurry and said so and we were not rushed. All in all a good experience. Special kudos for not jacking up prices on Christmas day!"

  • "Went for brunch. Had a reservation (through opentable), seated promptly. Service was good. We got the chicken and waffles for the table, the waffle was great, chicken was pretty good - everyone was happy. We all got burgers, always really good. Bloody mary was great. The rest of the brunch options looked good at other tables. Will go back."

  • "Food was mediocre at best - soggy french fries, really bad onion rings --too dry and over cooked-- disappointing hamburgers. Want a good burger? go to the Meridien Hotel on 58th Street! Cheese cake was the best item all three of us ate that evening."

  • "The burgers were very nice, but the french fries were luke warm when served and got cold quickly."

  • "Ordered guacamole and was surprised to find actual pieces of avocado in the smallish bowl. This resto needs to up the ante on the tortilla chips. The chips were lightweights, and broke when trying to scoop up the guacamole. Between the four of us we ordered two classic burgers (good); small caesar, small chopped salad, apple pie à la mode. I forgot what kind of beer the S/O ordered, but the rosé @ $7.00 was the pits. Ample fries are served with the burgers. Conclusion: A decent burger place, bad acoustics (noisy); good salads, and it beats waiting on line a McD's. Decent staff."

  • "Love the burgers at 5 Napkin. There is something for everyone on the menu--including someone who is Gluten Free. They have GF buns and GF beer!"

  • "I like 5 napkin burger because the food is consistently delicious. The burgers aren't too adventurous (no rhinoceros or alligator meat on the menu), but they do have a good variety, and the ones my friends and I have tried (bbq burger, bacon cheeseburger, and lamb burger) were delicious, perfectly cooked, and nicely flavored. Their fries are cut a little small for my taste, so tend to be eaten better with a fork, but they are tasty. I far prefer their sweet potato fries, which are just amazing. Spend the extra dollars and feast on those! I also love their salads topped with the BEST VEGGIE BURGER IN TOWN. It is made with beets, lentils, carrots, and happiness. I absolutely love it. Definitely recommended!!"

  • "We arrived earlier than our 9pm reservation, the restaurant was very busy, but we were seated within 5 minutes. Service was good server took drinks orders while we checked the menu. Ordered original burger and avocado ranch. They arrived in good time and were cooked exactly as we had asked. Good beer choice limited wine selection. Would definately recommend and return ourselves."

  • "Nice Beer selection and Burgers were Fine. However, I've had just as good elsewhere for the same or less money and much less NOISE! At the tiny table I occupied with my wife, we had to shout at each other to converse!"

  • "I've been here a number of times. Good for a quick lunch or dinner. Food is ok, mostly burgers & chicken, etc.... Not expensive"

  • "The burgers live up to the name and the fries & onion rings are really good. We arrived almost an hour early on a very busy night and the host and hostess were very accommodating in their efforts to seat us earlier. Loud, but not so much that you can't talk to your party. Some tables are a little too close together."

  • "We were meeting friends for a quick bite before a show at the Union Square Theatre and the location was perfect. The food and service were great and even though we arrived late, the wait staff made sure that we were out on time for our show. Two of us ordered hamburgers and two of us ordered the tuna burger. Tuna burgers were AMAZING ! I want to go back again, soon and so do the two who ordered the regular hamburgers because we raved about our tuna so much."

  • "I've eaten here before & the food is good. It's always very crowded & quite noisy, mostly 25 to 35 year olds w/ a young staff. They're friendly, polite & work hard to please, just a bit understaffed. But reasonably priced."
