I made the reservation to honor a friend's birthday, and the staff was so great. The restaurant was not crowded, but occupied by what I saw as "regulars" from the neighborhood, which I think is a great sign. We unfortunately did not eat a lot of what was offered, but I will say the truffle mac n' cheese is to die for. And so is the beet salad. I could eat both daily. I definitely recommend 5 and Diamond if you are looking for a quiet place to eat some good food with amazing service.

  • VERY LOUD DJ, WONDERFUL FOOD
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 10/18/2011
This was the second time we've been. The experience (not addressing the wonderful food) was quite different (service and noise level). This time we made an Open Table reservation and gave our information when we entred the restaurant, but evidently Open Table was not notified we had arrived. We went for Mac and Cheese night. Food was tasty and well prepared. We ate outside because the noise level from the DJ was very loud, as I assume a DJ would be, but had we known we would have not gone that night. Unfortunately a DJ is present on the Mac and Cheese night. Although we greatly enjoyed the food, the service for the outside tables was very unattentive. We had to flag down the waiter for water and go to the bar for my bill.

This has become one of my fave restaurants in the Harlem hood. You are always greeted with a smile and attentive service. The food is very good, and they have a fantastic happy hour! Absolutely, a good bang for your buck!! My only con is that I love the scallops that they offer on the menu and go there specifically for them. They have been 86'ed on my last two visits. This however does not deter me as there are other delicious things on the menu. I will be a regular.

Our experience at 5 and Diamond was wonderful. The service provided by Joe was excellent, he was helpful with recommendations and was flexible regarding special preparation on the chosen dishes. We can't wait to go back for the tasting menu. We found the prices incredibly reasonable in relation to the quality of the food.

keep in mind this is for the brunch menu only and we'll be going back to try the dinner menu later. The fried chicken was less than mediocre-sort of more like shake and bake! the Mac and Cheese was just "ok". The salad dressing was terrible. The waiter was the best part and offered us very friendly and warm service and he wasn't hard on the eyes either!

This is a wonderful neighborhood find in Harlem. With a menu inspired by the cuisine of Spain, and a wine list with some great Spanish wines, this small, but very well designed space is a great place for a sophisticated meal. Delightful ambiance and outstanding service. But the real star is the food. I had a wonderful salmon entree, and my husband had the mahi-mahi special. Both were very fresh and delicious. Portions are not large, so if you are used to overflowing servings, this is not the place for you. Book an early table and enjoy a really special experience.

Throughout the night, the waitstaff waste a lot of time changing utensils and serving bread. In total, we were at the restaurant for over 2 hours ust to get through the dinner. The owner/manager explained to the table next to us of a malfunction with the with the oven. He offered the table a drink on the house. He did not attempt to apologize or explain to us the The portion was small and meager. The first course was salad which took close to half an hour. The second course took over an hour to serve a plate of a single scallop with garnish. Another hour for small strips of three thinly slices of steak with potatoes, and 20 mins for dessert. a slice of cake. Our night concluded with a set 20% gratituty in addition to tax.

The food was outstanding and the service was great! The signature cocktail (aloe sangria) was very good - but the bartender fell short on an old classic, a Rob Roy. it was made with fresh lemon juice, which although tasty, is not the classic cocktail. FYI, the recipe is similar to a Manhattan, substituting scotch for the whisky - scotch, sweet or dry vermouth, cherry or lemon peel, as a garnish.

I really enjoyed the ambiance of this place. The food was delicious and made me eager to try other dishes. I had fried chicken that not only did not look like your everyday fried chicken but had a taste that made me want to sneak in the kitchen to get the recipe. And the biscuits...I am a very good cook but I have never tasted anything as delicious as those. The service was very good and the waitress was very friendly as well as professional. I was glad to see that it is kid-friendly as I have two grandchildren who will be returning with me. I will definitely return and recommend it to my friends and family. And by the way...the mimosa is to die for!

    Dined on 4/24/2011
The food here is always wonderful - the only problem that we had with this restaurant WAS the service, in that they completely got my mother's order wrong, and what was advertised on the menu for their Bourbon Brunch Special wasn't exactly it (there was only one piece of chicken, and a ton of other things that came with it that just made the plate way too busy). I loved the bourbon champagne cocktail, but wished it has been mixed a bit more (as it was heavy on the bourbon, on the bottom). They also did not tell my father that the plate they were giving him was scalding, and he almost burnt his fingers. The food WAS fantastic though, and they did apologize profusely, which was a plus.

    TRUZjrVIP
    Dined on 4/20/2011
Started with the Scallop Appetizer - fresh, simple, delicious. For an entree, I had the the New Zealand King Salmon. Enjoyed the preparation - quiet, understated flavors let the quality of the fish stand out, and highlighted the flavors of the celery root puree and the delicious little Morel mushrooms and sauce. My dining partner had the Chorizo Crusted Halibut. The taste I had of it was terrific! The chorizo crust added nice texture and seasoning to the tender, flaky fish and the Sunchoke puree, while strangely grey in color, was SO good! Dessert, unfortunately, missed the mark. What's billed as Pecan Pie s nothing of the sort - 2 tiny tartlets with barely any filling - all I tasted was crust!

Overall, the food was quite good. However, I found the service to be somewhat lacking. When we got to the restaurant, there were several empty tables but we still had to wait about 5 minutes before we were seated. The tables were already set up so I'm not sure why we had to wait. Once we were seated, we were not given food or drink menus and waited another 10 minutes until someone came by to ask what we wanted to order. Once we got our menus and ordered our bottle of wine + food, the service became more attentive.

Loved it - just perfect for a nice dinner out with our 8mo old in tow. My husband had the hanger steak and he raved about how tender and tasty it was. I had the homemade pappardelle - little sheets of heaven!!! I wanted to wrap them around me like a blanket - they were light and tender and piping hot, and the lamb ragout they were served with was a nice complement. A lovely salad for a starter, a fabulous Manhattan, and a very tasty chocolate dessert (heck, after that Manhattan I don't remember what it was called but it was delicious!) Oh, and the wait staff fawned over our son and generally made it a nice evening out for us!

We drove in from the suburbs after hearing wonderful things about this restaurant and we were not disapointed. To start, we found street parking right in front and were greeted warmly by the maitre de who was attentive throughout. The salads and scallop appetizers were lovely. The main course of fish for two of us, steak for the third, was perfect, the french fry side is a must. We finished by sharing an apple tart and a three layer chocolate mousse that should not be missed. The restaurant maintained a crowd throughout the evening but we were never rushed and despite it's small size, it was not at all noisy. All in all it was a terrific find. We will definitely be going back.

I am an out of town visitor who sought a place close to where my daughter who attends Columbia Univ. could get to easily. For NYC, the prices are very reasonable, which when combined with the great food and service we experienced, makes this restaurant one to return to. All of the restaurant personnel, from the owners to the wait staff, did the up most to ensure that we had an excellent experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone, and particularly for someone visiting a student who is at Columbia that wants to experience a fine neighborhood establishment.
