Overall, OK restaurant. A bit pricey for the food selection and quality. Great for after-dinner dessert and coffee/wine. Lunch was OK, but felt the prices for the entrees were a little expensive for the choices. It tries to be upscale, and to an extent it is. Try it once and see. But the night life is better than the breakfast-lunch fare.

49 West is more of a coffee/wine bar kind of place than a place to have a nice dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the bruschetta as an appetizer. Unfortunately, my entree of the medallions of tenderloin was well done instead of medium and the balsamic sauce seemed to overwhelm the potatoes and asparagus. My husband enjoyed the pesto vegetable blanket but probably would not order it again. The sandwiches might have been a better choice as they looked quite tasty and people were ordering more of those. Instead of dessert we opted for the Irish Coffee, which was excellent. The atmosphere is a bit on the funky side and fun, although the noise level was a bit high at times. Our server was cheerful, attentive, and had a great sense of humor.

What's not to love? Great service, creative plating, simple but tasty lunch menu, locally run for over a decade, artsy decor, impressive wine list, expansive coffee bar, live background music, ... I look forward to coming back the next time I am in Annapolis.

49 West came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. We went there for Easter Brunch and even got to sit near where they had live music playing. The food was great, filling and healthy. Service was good - our water and coffee were always full. And the homemade desserts were to die for. We will definitely be going back.

My waitress almost never came around between taking our order, appetizers, and after dinner was delivered! She didn't realize I finished my beverage before appetizers were done. It took forever to wave her down to get the check. A lot of times she was in the vicinity and just never made eye contact with me at my table! Brie appetizer was good. The entree (chicken mojito) was bland. It was not restaurant quality. More like what I would get if a friend had to cook me a simple dish. Sub par for a restaurant or even dining out.

The dishes were much tastier than expected. I was hesitant to dine there and didn't have great expectations but I figured the restaurant was worth a try. It generally seems busy... I was quite pleased with the menu options and what seems to be fresh tasting food. I think the restaurant could have used one more server for the number of individuals but if you weren't in a rush, then the evening would have been just fine. Chelsea was attentive and seemed to have managed her customers well, considering. And good barista. Food ordered: Turkey Spinach soup, crab cake dinner, rabbit salad, lean turkey sandwich with a side of fruit (order the strawberry mustard on the side).

When visiting 49 West for the first time, I was a little concerned about how they could pack art gallery, winebar and coffeehouse elements together without one overpowering the other. The cozy seating like that of a bistro was married quite well with an uncluttered display of art. Then as my lump crabcakes arrived, two people very quietly, almost unnoiticeably sat down add began to play and all of the sudden I was being serenaded by the sounds of jazz singing the french language. All in all, the all around experience will definitely make me a return customer. This place is a great place for good food and a peaceful dining experience.

It truly is a Wine Bar/Coffeehouse rather than a "restaurant" The food and drink was fine, but this is not a place for a formal, quiet meal. PS they had some not very complimentary things to say about the quality of the Open Table service.

Our experience at 49 West was delightful. From our very efficient and helpful waiter to the superior quality of the fresh food, no complaints. The crab cake made with lump crab meat was excellent. We had never tried celery root salad (the waiter recommended it for our sides). We loved it. Their Key Lime pie was excellent. I would definitely go there again.

Something you don't see often: a small, cozy, full-character coffee shop that's happy to offer a little more octane/entertainment. Location's great at the edge of Annapolis' old town while the clientele ranges from college students and hipsters to day trippers considering sticking around for the broad range of live music on a Saturday. Bonus for visitors: it's right at the south exit from the Calvert/West st parking garage. Even bigger bonus: it blows the doors off the competition with feel, ambience, attitude, menu and location far beyond any name-brand option. Will definitely re-visit when I return to Annapolis.

The waitress was unfamilier with the menu and the wine selections; the service was slow and we specifically told our waitress that we had show tickets and needed to move along at a quicker pace. The food was just OK and the decor looked beat. I would not dine here again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

We went there for an early dinner after shopping (5 PM reservation). We found they don't start serving dinner entrees until 6 PM. We had the shrimp on skewers appetizer and crab dip. The shrimp was good. The crab dip had a lot of cream cheese, but the bread was good. We had an Ayi tuna salad and a BLT salad which were fair.

This felt more like an upscale coffee shop/deli. The menu was not suitable for a formal sit down dinner but perfectly fine for lunch or early dinner. The crab dip was amazing. I would go back for lunch or meet up for coffee with friends. They apparently have live music most nights. I could hear blues music coming from a room around the back of the establishment. I would look in to coming back for live music as well, but not a formal sit down dinner.

The wine by the glass list is very diverse with lots of choices. Food was excellent. Portions were very large, a couple could easily split. It is a coffee house as well as a wine bar so eclectic. Deserts very very good. They have live music most nights.

This restaurant is a step above most hotel dining venues. The menu was creative, the food was good and the wait-service friendly. The wine we ordered was sold out. I asked the server if she would give us a different bottle for the same price. The manager came over & was short with me, saying he would happily give us any bottle we choose but would not negotiate the price. He approached the table with incredulity, as though looking for an arguement. I simply noted that the wine we really wanted was sold out. He was unmoving. Again, meals and portions were good. Funny how one bad note at dinner can color your view of the entire experience.
