49 Social, the latest addition to the expanding Downtown Crossing culinary scene, is now open and serving refined modern American cuisine Monday through Saturday. The seasonal dinner menue crafted by Chef Michael Lishchynsky, draw inspiration from around the globe while incorporating ingredients… from local New England farms whenever possible. The bar menu features smaller plates sure to satisfy late night cravings and complement an extensive wine list and craft cocktail menu. Guests are offered a choice of dining experience over three levels of seating including a mezzanine and a downstairs lounge, which are also available for private functions. Friday and Saturday nights feature live jazz music directed by long time Boston performer Ron Murphy in an intimate setting, putting you up close and personal with the band.Continued

"The service was nice and efficient, however the first 3 things we ordered off the menu were not available. We were told this was because 2 were finished, the tuna and lobster, (We were dining at 7 on a Saturday.) and the shipment had not come that day of the clams on the raw bar menu.
Our meals came out at different times. Our fillet (ordered medium-rare) was barely pink in the center of the meat, and the edges were tough and rubbery."

"49 Social was an unfortunate mix of high and low culture. The duo of beef (steak tartare and seared fillet in lavender smoke) was a heavenly experience of delicately balanced flavors and textures. The short rib, easily fit to feed two, was perfectly succulent and came on a bed of home-made noodles mixed with a generous handful of truffles. The roast pork loin was on the dry size, but the brussel leaves it came with were a peppery breath of fresh air. Consuming such decadent food to the booming sound of Ke$ha, Britney and Usher eroded the pleasure state somewhat. If 49 Social wants to succeed as a fine dining location, its time to review their play list."

"Thank you for a great meal and choosing a very romantic table for my fiance's birthday! We were running late but you still gave us a relaxing dinner and got us to the show onetime! Great place for a preshow dinner. The food was good and not too heavy, cocktails were excellent! Priced appropraitly. They were able to acomidate my special request and were flexible with our needs."

"Went during restuarant week, so I expected 49 Social to put its best food forward, but Food was only ok, and I wouldn't make an effort to return. Servers were nice, but because we were upstairs, I felt like we were forgotten a few times so we waited around between courses and especially long to get our check.

The beef carpacio was accompanied by too much frese.My favorite food item was the pasta that came with the short rib (which was not memorable). The flourless chocolate cake was excellent with raspberry and ice cream, but not enough of either to really balance out the heaviness of the chocolate."

"I hesitated to go here because there were so many negative reviews, but there were many positive reviews as well, and thought I would give it a try. Our meals were quite good, and I appreciated the light hand with the salt and the smaller portion sizes. Agree with other reviewers that this was not a destination restaurant where a foodie would spend the evening, and yes its food I could have cooked at home if I had all afternoon to do so. It was perfect for a pre-theater meal; very good (but not exquisite) food, excellent attentative service, and I thought it was appropriately priced. I will visit them again."

"I emailed and spoke with a manager about getting a private/romantic table for a special occasion well before my reservation. The manager offered to put a balloon on our table and said he already had the table picked out. I was so happy they did this! HOWEVER, when we arrived we were sat in the middle of two other tables in the middle of the walkway. There was no balloon either. The restaurant was bare to practically empty to I was upset. The server must have been notified that it was a special occasion so he asked if we wanted to move. I declined and remained in the middle of the floor. It would not have been so bad if they didn't specifically call me to say they would do all this for me. When they forgot, it made me wish I chose elsewhere."
