Diner Reviews
  • "Had pre-show dinner with my husband. Food was excellent and not too pricey for NYC. Sat on outdoor patio which was charming though small. Service a bit slow even though place was not crowded, but overall would highly recommend for pre-theater or just a nice evening out."

  • "We went to dinner pre-theater and sat outside in patio. We all had a wonderful time and kept commenting throughout the night how much we enjoyed dinner. We all shared the short ribs quesadilla which were amazing, then i had the scallops which were also terrific. For dessert, split the carrot cake with cream cheese gelato, and the peanut butter mousse with malted ball gelato. Definitely a "beback"! Make sure you go to right place...we actually went in and were seating at sister restaurant, 44 and X...thought will try that one next time!"

  • "Fun cocktails and great food! Took a chance on this place while in NYC. Usually we get recommendations but had no time. We were going to a show in theater district. Got 515 reservations for a 7 pm show. We were seated immediately and the server was more than accommodating for our time constraint. The cocktail menu is a hoot and we each enjoyed our selection. Portions were ample. We had the biggest crab cakes we have ever had. They were tasty. Pasta and salads were equally big and delicious. Finished with plenty of time to walk to our show. Ambience was nothing special but food made up for it."

  • "Great night. Attentive service and helpful. The night turned into a long conversation but the staff never batted an eye and treated us like we had just arrived all night. Attentive without being disruptive is my hot spot, they did a great job. Food was fresh and the Tuna Tartar was covered in ginger and filled with fresh avacado. loved it"

  • "We had a delightful late dinner in the patio in the rear of the restaurant - completely secluded in the general chaos of Hell's Kitchen area. Crab cake and roasted beet appetizers were excellent, as were the entrees: red snapper stuffed with crab, NY Strip steak, and lobster ravioli. I think 44-½ is far superior to most of the theatre district restaurants, and worth the extra walk."

  • "This was our first time here, guided by online reviews. We had an enjoyable brunch, great food in a very pleasant courtyard. We will definitely return."

  • "So when my fiancé booked this place, I thought WTF! A restaurant in Hell's Kitchen? we are more your Soho or Chelsea kinda people. WOW! WOW! WOW! We stumbled in out of the rain and the most devine waiters and hosts tendered to our every need. It was a really quiet night as it's a long weekend but we were treated like stars. Great conversation, not invasive and we had the night of our lives. My fiancé's steak was the best he's EVER had! They had goats cheese on it and he lost his mind! I had the crispy skin salmon. Ah. Maze. Ing! Plus, when we told our waiter that we got engaged a couple of days before, he brought out a free dessert! What a cutie. Love love loved it! Big kudos to the team, can't wait to go back! x"

  • "Food is always amazing. Service not so much. Owners have 2 restaurants on the same block so take a page from some of the best restauranteurs. SERVICE MATTERS!!!"

  • "This was my second time at this restaurant and will definitely be back for a third, if not more! The service this time was sporadic, the bus boy was great - definitely made certain that our water glasses were kept filled and table was kept clean! The food was fabulous as it was the first time that I went there. It is definitely a great place for foodies - as far as I am concerned!"

  • "44 1/2 is by far my favorite restaurant in the city! I have returned several times now on trips to NYC. and it delivers above expectation every time. From the moment you are greeted by Andrew at the door, you are well taken care of. The food is fresh and perfectly prepared. Love the cocktails. This was my first time sitting in the Japanese Garden area. It was so peaceful and intimate. And we were a party of six. Beautiful! Cannot wait to return!"

  • "Always a good meal at reasonable prices at 44 1/2. The salmon was delicious as was the tuna appetizer. I haven't tried the steaks yet but will on a future visit. Never a bad meal at this consistent establishment."

  • "The server was friendly, all the dishes were nicely plated, food was fine but needed a pinch more flavor. The cocktails were refreshing for a hot summer evening."

  • "Terrific brunch options--but getting out waiter's attention was next to impossible. (Coffee refills, non-existent, water glasses--kept empty, service time---brunch took over 90 minutes--and over easy eggs were cold and overcooked when they finally showed up). The place looks wonderful and is always busy, but the service offered does not match the quality the menu promises."

  • "We have been to 44X for lunch, and 44 1/2 for brunch. Both restaurants are outstanding mostly because of their staff. They are all funny, smart, helpful and really all did their best to make us feel welcome and relaxed. The outside garden at 44 1/2 was "zen like" and really comfortable. Brunch was good. Must be really pretty at night. Will definitely recommend, and be back!"

  • "We have been going to 44 1/2 for about 8 years now. It is our go to restaurant whenever we are in the city. The food has always been delicious and the drinks, especially my raspberry cosmo, are fantastic! We love 44 1/2!"

  • "We had a wonderful brunch there on a Saturday before going to the theater. I reserved a table for 9, and i was one of the first patrons to arrive for brunch. The restaurant looked so nice: the tables were all set with pink napkins and pink flowers and there were pink lanterns on the ceiling of the tent in the outdoor space. The waiters were friendly and accommodating, and the food was great. Everyone agreed that the venue was perfect for our event."

  • "We had the Pistachio Crusted Salmon, Lobster Pot Pie and Crab Cakes. All cooked perfectly w/generous portions and tasted delicious. Service was efficient and friendly. Great spot for Pre or Post Broadway Theater. We will be back with friends. "

  • "This place was great! We were a group of ten which is a lot to handle, but were seated instantly. Michael was our server and was great!! Funny, charming and SPOT ON with all our drinks and dinners. I would 100% go there again and recommend to a friend!!!"

  • "Food was great but the table we got was against a wall with a pole right next to me. Uncomfortable setting. Their were better tables but with only 2 people they set us at this table"

  • "almost left, the host was the worst, guests seated in the outside area were not happy, since they were being ignored by the host, they ended up leaving but before they did complained loudly to the bartender. Two parties after us, while we were waiting to be seated left due to the long wait and hearing the people talk to the bartender. It took the host 15 minutes to clear a table for us, the strange thing not one person left the restaurant while he was clearing a table. Once inside and seated the waiter was great and the food was outstanding. "

  • "I went with some friends/co-workers to 44 1/2 for dinner when visiting NYC. We chose the restaurant as it was close to our hotel, had good reviews and the menu looked really good. We were not disappointed in the food. It was very very good! The drinks were nice and the overall price was quite reasonable. The decor to the restaurant was very pink. Pink flowers, pink table cloths, pink lighting, pink t-tshirts, etc. You get the idea. Maybe not the best choice for a business dinner as it was very romantic or if you were with people uncomfortable in a alternative crowd. We did enjoy it very much though, so it depends on who you are with."

  • "I loved the ambiance and it was perfect for Mothers Day with the pink touches everywhere. Staff was friendly and helpful although didn't check back on us too much. Food was great and portions were fairly large. I left full, satisfied and definitely trying to plan when I would be able to come back next! "

  • "I love 44 & 1/2! Great brunch! The place is super cute. But it is small. Make reservations! A beautiful outdoor (yet covered) garden! The food is great. Not cheap but not overpriced either! Portions are right on!"

  • "At 6:00 reservation was made for our family of four to enjoy a pre-theater meal. We informed our server that we were on our way to a show. The food, which was very good, arrived promptly and was presented well. Liquor/wine was a whole different story. Getting a drink took 10 minutes just to order and another 10 minutes plus to come and only after our server was reminded. His response was that the bartender was backed up with specialty drinks. It takes 45 seconds to serve a straight pour- a poor excuse. Not to mention the front of the restaurant was empty and the garden area only about 1/3 full. I can't imagine how backed up he'd be with a full restaurant. A glass of wine with dinner took even longer. To enjoy: order all drinks at once. "

  • "Great vibe, fun for brunch! Some great drink names - I had a Spicy Shakira bloody mary that was scrumptious. The eggs benedict made my day!"

  • "Great location for theater. Good brunch menu. Young crowd. Friendly staff. Very noisy. Tables close together."
    Dined on 4/27/2014
  • "Disappointed in the stress put on our evening by staff not managing reservation times and causing a problem with a show - no late seating- time. Hard to enjoy menu choosing appetizers and such watching the clock "
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "This restaurant was fun for brunch but I wasn't incredibly impressed with the quality of food. The drink menu was very good, however. The flowers were a nice decorative touch."
