Saturday was my second visit to 43
North. The food was outstanding. In our opinion, this was the best food we've had in Madison since moving here in 2009!"

Had a great lunch, gourmet really.
I got the dumpling pork, and it was yummy with very fresh. Obvious care and attention to presentation. Service was friendly, prompt, but not overdone."
Dined on 2/11/2014
The food and service made up for
the lack of ambience and noise level. We love the option of half or full plate. The presentation of the food was beautiful! We highly recommend 43 North!"

First time diners at this
restaurant. Always wanted to try it, but never got there until now. Most everything was fabulous. The date appetizer was to die for. The brussel sprout salad was delicious, and the scallops were were fabulous. Only the mussels disappointed. The waitstaff was attentive, and very accommodating. Excellent wine list. I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly."

The restaurant is tucked in on
King Street. Our waiter was great. There and tended to us very nicely without rushing us. The food was well presented and delicious. I am looking forward to going again."

43 North has found its niche in
Madison. Beautifully presented dishes available in large and small plates. Great for a date, You can carry on a conversation with your dinner partner."

We were going to a show at the
Overture so we stopped here for dinner first! We received 30% off our bill since we ate before 7:00. My husband and I shared 2 small salads and 3 small plate entrees. All the food was good but my favorite was the scallops! We will come again!"
Dined on 2/25/2014
I found this place on line when I
was looking for a place to surprise my husband with for his birthday. It was a Monday night and they had the $40 place 4 course meal complete with wine tasting. The restaurant was quiet and relaxing. The wait staff were very professional and polite. The food was displayed greatly and tasted wonderful! My husband loved his birthday dinner. They even gave him a little candle on his dessert. I also thought it was a good deal for $40. We got 4 glasses of wine a piece! Wonderful place!"
Dined on 2/24/2014
The food was wonderful. The
biggest delights were the vegetables!"
Dined on 2/22/2014
Great tapas, can't go wrong with
anything. The game hen, sea bass, salmon and scallops were all wonderful! The Caesar salad is also wonderful! A definite favorite!"
Dined on 2/21/2014
We went here with our grown son on
his suggestion and had not been here before. The bread was great, the noise level was much lower than a lot of places. The food took a bit long considering it was not real busy but when it arrived we were very pleased. The Blood orange salad was perfectly dressed and light. The Waygu steak was snarfed down by our son and the salmon was just right. We will be back"

They had a special Valentine's Day
weekend menu, which we did not know about in advance but we enjoyed. (It might be nice if this was posted on their website in advance.) The choices were limited, but the food was very good. Unfortunately, we were seated at a table in the back which was near a door. We were freezing and ended up eating with our coats on. The main dining area is nice, so just avoid the back room and you will be fine."
Dined on 2/15/2014
I chose this spot on a whim. We
waited to long to make a reservation, and we grabbed the last one at 43 North. I am SO happy we did! My friends can't wait to try it. Wonderful drinks & dessert. Our waitress was a delight!"
Dined on 2/15/2014
We were visiting Madison from
Chicago for a weekend away. Found this restaurant on open table, did not disappoint! Food was great and they had a unique selection of cocktails. Very good!"
Dined on 2/15/2014
We had a great meal over all. Our
duck confit salads were not that great ... but they were taken off of our bill and my Wagyu Beef & the Game Hen my friend ordered were amazing!! They were very gracious about the salads & I would definitely recommend them to friends!!"

I was thrilled to find 43 North. I
visit Madison a few times a year from San Francisco, and have tried a number of Madison restaurants. The food was excellent, and I really appreciated the option of small and large plates, providing an opportunity to try several dishes rather than just one. My colleagues and I went on a very cold week night, so there weren't many people there. I intend to try it again the next time I'm in town."
Dined on 2/11/2014
We visited on a Monday night, our
first time there for dinner. It was a very slow night, but the food and service were exceptional and the atmosphere was very nice. Plenty of meatless options and most menu items are available as small or large plates, which we enjoyed. We tried four dishes and all were great -- nothing too rich, nice-sized portions, all well thought out, fresh and beautifully presented. With the happy hour discount, which we didn't know about going in, it was a terrific value especially given the quality of the food and service."
Dined on 2/10/2014
As a business traveler relocated
from San Francisco, I can happily say that 43 North is a gem for any city in America. You can't go wrong with lunch or dinner. Look for the Monday wine tastings, and one of the best happy hours in town!"
Dined on 2/9/2014
I got a small plate of potato
croquettes, which the server said would have 2-3 on it, and i ended up with only one croquette, cabbage that was overcooked (and red- which was not described on the menu- I so would have picked something else if I had known it was red cabbage) for $12. Not interested in comming back if that is what you get for your money."
Dined on 2/7/2014
Ambiance and service were low key
and very tasteful. The four of us ordered four different salads, all of which were very creative and delicious. My salmon entree was way overcooked and disappointingly bland, and my wife's Cornish game hen was good but not spectacular. I do appreciate that 43 North offers small and large servings of most menu items; a very nice touch. With about 2 alcoholic drinks per person, price was about $50 a head. Not outrageous these days, but neither was it a screaming value given the hit and miss cuisine."
Dined on 2/7/2014
Wonderful meal, service, and
ambiance. Lobster bisque was incredible! Great wine recommendation."
Dined on 2/6/2014
Simple and tasteful is a short and
pleasant way of describing the decor and atmosphere here at 43 North. I took some colleagues out for an early dinner, searching for a place that would allow us to converse and enjoy some unique and tasteful food. This particular venue had been recommended by some other professionals in the area. The service was fantastic, nothing but good things to say about it. Simply put though, the aps had something to be desired. The beef carpaccio was perhaps the least flavorful version that I have ever had. It was somewhat dry and lacking a lot in the flavor department. The accompanying crackers were nothing special either. Main dishes were fantastic- salmon is a must have, with amazing artichokes."
Dined on 2/4/2014
Apps & entrees available in small
plates so lots of opportunities for sharing. Date appetizer is yummy. Good wines @ different price points."
Dined on 1/29/2014
Fantastic! Six dishes and all
provided a complex and delightful taste experience."
Dined on 2/1/2014
we were very
impressed...everything was excellent...food, service, ambiance. It was our first time at 43 north...we have dined quite often at the other Muramoto restaurants....but this was special. We will definitely go back!"
Dined on 1/27/2014
We decided to try out 43 North
during restaurant week & are glad we did! The food was delicious, service was attentive & it was a lively, modern atmosphere. Great location just blocks from the Capitol & near plenty of options to grab an after dinner drink."
Dined on 1/24/2014
Visited 43 North during restaurant
week based on ratings on open table. We didn't realize it was restaurant week which limited the dining choices to one of three appetizers, entrees and desserts. I had the stuffed dates appetizer with brussel sprout leaves appetizer and it was just o.k.. My wife had their soup option which was delicious. We both selected their Flank Steak which was very mediocre. Mine was underseasoned and bland overall, and my wife's was a bit undercooked and tough. Desserts were presented nicely by not memorable. Coffee press was very good. Nice atmosphere and service. I will try it again when they are offering their regular menu, but the food was just o.k., which wasn't what I was expecting."

This restaurant is in the old
Continental space on King St, Madison WI. My wife and I had our 3rd date there, by sheer coincidence we end up at in same space for our 3rd anniversary dinner. I called ahead, talked to GM about a quiet table, then made reserv through OT and put notes in referencing that. Table was great, staff was attentive in a low-key way (perfect). Food was unique, interesting, delicious."
Dined on 1/15/2014
43 North has a great drink/wine
list and delicious food that is on par with other Madison gems. I love the small plate/large plate option. Prices are very reasonable. Food is locally sourced when possible. The lobster bisque with cracklin and marshmallows (yes!) is divine. Wonderful service, too. I was really quite impressed and will return with friends."
Dined on 1/11/2014
The food was unique and creative,
excellent cocktails, presentation of dishes wonderful and the flavors outstanding. This was our first visit and we will look forward to the next time."
Dined on 1/10/2014
We were seated in the small
3-table back room, very quiet and comfortable. The main room, with the connected bar, is noisier. Our group of three had the New Year's Eve four course fixed price meal. The food was outstanding and the portions just right. We all renewed our membership in the Clean Plate Club, but no one went away hungry."
Dined on 12/31/2013
Restaurant was ice cold when we
arrived. Finally turned on the heat after we ordered. The steak tartare had absolutely no flavor. Cheese plate was incredibly boring. We left after appetizers. Waiter from California saved to night from being completely horrible."
Dined on 12/28/2013
I know that in the vicinity are
lots of opportunities to eat bar food or the new trend of the old supper club but why would anyone eat there when they can satisfy their taste buds with the delicious food found at 43 North. We have made special trips to Madison to eat at 43 North."
Dined on 12/20/2013
A lovely place to dine. Excellent
food and friendly competent service."
Dined on 12/17/2013
Really great food and service.
Portion sizes are excellent for the large plates. Appetizers of WI cheeses, charcuterie plate and carpaccio are amazing. Waygu beef was so creamy and flavorful, the sea bass cooked to perfection, the pork tenderloin so tender and full of flavor it just melted in your mouth. Our party of 6 loved every bite and we all shared and tasted one another's dishes. Our server was very knowledgeable and chose wines for us to compliment our respective meals. The downsides to mention include very cheap wobbly tables, very crowded seating, and unless you are really familiar with the downtown area the restaurant is very hard to find as is the free parking they mention on their website. Light up the awning somehow."
Dined on 12/13/2013
The food was amazing and a great
deal! I do like all my small plates at once, to try them all. They come on one at a time, so this is something I need to remember to ask for. Otherwise, amazing food at a reasonable price!"
Dined on 11/29/2013
just follow the latitude across
the globe...43 North hits all the best zones for foodies (France, Spain, Japan, etc..) and the menu reflects this diversity. i love that the menu is so varied - but not overly long. food prepared perfectly and i love being able to order anything as either a small or large plate. super nice staff and open kitchen. walk on by past some of the flashier choices near the square and get yourself to 43 North."
Dined on 11/27/2013
Since it was so good the first
time, this is our second time in three weeks going to 43 North. We did repeat the brussel sprout and grilled caesar salads, since we enjoyed them so much the first time. We also had the Baccala Croquet appetizer along with the pork tenderloin. Everything was simply delectable. The service was exceptional; the staff was not only attentive but extremely friendly and helpful. When going to 43 North, you truly feel like they appreciate your business, all the while providing excellent meals. BTW, the wines by the glass are also very tasty, both by themselves or paired with a meal. We are already talking about our next visit to 43 North."
Dined on 11/23/2013
This is the second time I have
been here and the food is amazing. The first time my server was amazing, this time the server did lack a bit of the polish and timing my first experience had, but overall not too bad."
Dined on 11/15/2013
The food was excellent, but the
main courses were very slow to arrive even though the restaurant was less than half full. The waiter was too intrusive. Most people come to restaurants mainly to be with each other, and do not want conversations repeatedly interrupted just to hear every last detail about the food. The goal of service should be to serve it promptly and then get out of the way."
