  • "We went for Raleigh Restaurant Week. The restaurant was full of folks that seemed to be having a good time and enjoying their experience. The menu was great. the baked clams appetizer was fantastic and enough for a meal on its own (6 clams, 3 different kinds). we chose the wine paring which was delightful. Our wait staff (sorry the I cannot remember her name) was helpful, courteous and provided just the right about of checking in with us."

  • "Arrived a bit early for our 5:30 reservations to dine with friends during Raleigh restaurant week. Seated immediately at a cozy booth. Selected the 3-course meal with wine pairings. Bacon-wrapped scallops, cioppino (tomato-based stew with shrimp, oysters, mussels, scallops, white fish) and finished off with a delightful wedge of key-lime pie and coffee. Amazing meal at a reasonable price."

  • "6 of us dined here on a busy Friday night. Service was prompt and efficient from the moment we sat down. Our dishes included sautéed crab cakes, fried scallops, surf and turf, baked grouper. All were delicious and extremely fresh. Martini a and specialty drinks were yummy and there is a decent beer list. We all enjoyed the band that was playing too!"

  • "Been there several times and was disappointed in my food, couple with us liked their meal but mine was not good, very bland even though it said spiced shrimp and my husbands fish was very overdone. Will have to think twice before going back. We each had one drink and that was good."

  • "I had a large party, that changed in size many times, but 42nd Street was so flexible and understanding of our needs. Everyone I spoke to one the phone was so accommodating; all requests were granted. We were taken care of by a few members of the waitstaff team, which was nice as there were many of us. Our food was prompt and delicious! They were also able to make sure the children at the table were able to order and eat their dinner before the adults. Overall, a fantastic experience. After trying to make reservations at many different restaurants in Downtown Raleigh, 42nd Street will now be my go-to for my large party events!"

  • "My parents don't live in Raleigh but when they come to visit, they love going to 42nd Street; they are both from the coast and don't get to visit often so the next best place to get seafood is here. We always since at the raw bar and with out a doubt, get the best service every time! The menu had a great variety, the servers are very knowledgeable and the atmosphere is fantastic. Thank you 42nd Street for always having the best at everything every single time we come!!"

  • "My wife and I have been there a few times and have a very good experience each time. A reservation is a must if you want to plan your evening. The best sea food we have had since moving here from NY. I had the blackened Salmon, with shrimp and scallops all cooked just right and the flavor of the Salmon was wonderful. My wife had the Scallops and they were cooked right on also. We were early so we sat in the bar area. The waitress there was kind and attentive as was our waitress at our table. There were four of us for dinner and we all enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere. We will certainly be back for more."

  • "We were celebrating the 87th birthday of a family member; we had planned ahead with reservations for the evening. Upon arrival we had to wait several minutes for our table to be set up and the bar and lobby area only had "high-top" chairs which were unmanageable for an elderly woman who moves with the assistance of a cane. Then once we were taken to our table we experienced the same problem - "high-top" table and chairs which were inappropriate. We then had to wait another 20 minutes for another table. While the food was great the evening just didn't start off the best for a celebratory evening."

  • "Like fine vintage wines, this place has done the impossible, gotten better through the years. I started eating here when the building was across the street and the food was outstanding. From this small red edifice which catered to the neighborhood types, it has expanded under the tutelage of Mrs. Eure to an establishment that takes second seat to NONE! The seafood is exquisitely prepared, just out of the ocean fresh, and served by a wait-staff that is both engaging and knowledgeable! Life sent me to various parts of the world for many years, now returned to the Raleigh area for good (I hope) My wife Petra and I decided to revisit out old pal this past week. Like Heaven, it was wonderful, better than remembered and pure pleasure!"

  • "Being from Maryland I absolutely love Seafood!!!! I love 42nd st that's located in RDU airport the food is alwAys amazing but this one downtown raleigh, ughhhh it just SUCKED. Crabcake was only cooked on one side the calamari was bland the shrimp were bland. It was over prices and not worth the 90 buck bill at the end"

  • "This place so exceeded my expectations, although I had only heard great thinks about this " historic" gem. The atmosphere was vibrant and the wide open nature of the space was perfect. Bar, oyster bars, tables and booths were perfect for this large capacity place. The food was fresh and served appropriately. Job well done.! I'm going back tonight. Our server also deserves a call out. Layne did a exceptional job and made us feel like we were her only customers. She had great recommendations. Hope to see her again as well."

  • "We occasionally come back this restaurant ever since 1980's Foods on manu are pretty standard for seafood restaurant but very stable and never let me down. Last night we sit down at oyster bar, the waiter was excellent. The only thing if I make comment is raw oyster price went up so much and we wish still serve dozen of raw oyster for reasonable price."

We tasted a large variety of offerings including several appetizers, soup, salad, oysters, scallops, fried and broiled fish, peel and eat shrimp, crab claws, crab cakes and more! Everything was amazing! The fresh quality and food prep was obviously top priority. The service was just as awesome. Every detail was attended to with speed and a pleasant attitude. We will return!"

  • "After finding this gem in the RDU airport we were excited to finally make the hour drive to the actual restaurant. I loved the wide selection of local beers and indulged in an IPA. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer and weren't very impressed. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't something I'd order again. For entrees, my wife got the traditional shrimp and grits which is what we both got at RDU a year ago. I got the recommended pan seared scallops. The shrimp and grits weren't like we remembered them, but they were still very good. I felt the scallops are tough and probably over-cooked. Overall, maybe our expectations were too high going in, but we left with full bellies; however, unsatisfied with the overall taste of the food"

  • "Great hushpuppies and seafood bisque. Oysters had no flavor and shirmp were fair at best. Ahi tuna on the salad had no flavor. This was the first time in over 8 years we had been back to 42nd street because there are so many more places to get good seafood in Raleigh. We will continue to go elsewhere... I do want to say that the staff was great and very accommodating."
