42nd Street Oyster BarGreat experience!Loved it!!! Crab legs, service and atmosphere were great! Will definitely go back.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMServiceService was outstanding. Kaitlin was terrific and attentive. Great with elderly population.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLocal Flavor and EnergyOur first clue to the popularity of this local restaurant was the overflowing parking lot and as we stepped through the front door the local residents waiting for tables. Our Open Table reservations quickly had us seated in this vibrant restaurant. They have a large selection of local beers and we tried several with our meals. Our food selections had a very southern flair with a touch of Cajun spice. Come hungry as the portion size is quite generous. I had the bacon wrapped scallops over penne pasta and our high school age son had the fried shrimp. Both were excellent but neither of us could finish our meal due to the portion size. Without feeling rushed by the staff we were in fact in and out in just over an hour.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation DinnerWe had a great time. Our waitress Lauren was fantastic. The food was delicious a service also great.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh seafood prepared expertlyFreah seafood prepared expertly. Rare find in the Triangle. What a treat!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently goodNice selection of food with daily specials. Blackened bacon-wrapped scallops are incredible!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRecommend reservationsFood was good and very friendly service. Thankfully we had a reservation because several other groups were told the wait was over an hour. There is first come seating at the bar too. Casual local atmosphere, but not casual prices. Very popular spot in downtown Raleigh.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT EXPERIENCEEverything was great, including the service and the food. Thanks for the birthday cake and for not singing to me. Jean P5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMmy revieweverything was really good except the fish that my wife got. She got the 42nd st platter and the shrimp and scallops were good . we only ate 2 bites of the fish (1 for her and 1 for me) and the waitress didnt even ask if anything was wrong when she took our plates. Everything else was really good and i love the atmosphere.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOver-cooked but good.Loved the restaurant, my first time. The service was good, not the best ever. My biggest complaint was my shrimp were overcooked. This made them tough and rubbery. They also has not been devained which lead to a mess. Other than that I loved the place.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI love seafood! This resturant has always been a favorite of mine. I drive in about an hour to enjoy delicious, well prepared seafood. It is truly hard to find seafood worth paying for these days and 42 street is a great value. The food whether fried, broiled, or pan seared is always cooked to perfection.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMA Delicious ReunionMy Husband and I had fond memories of the restaurant. We enjoyed special evenings and super delicious dinners there forty six years ago just after we were married and my husband was finishing grad school at NCSU. Leaving Raleigh in '68, we had not been back until last Friday. The restaurant, of course, was a (structurally) much different from years ago, but the excellent food, atmosphere, and service were just as fantastic as we remembered. We consider our recent visit a spectacular reunion with a most special part of our younger years, and one which we hope to repeat very soon. Thank you to the management and staff of the 42nd Street Oyster Bar for this delicious reunion. PS5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMYou should go...I really enjoyed myself. The food was outstanding and the scenery was great.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and atmosphereWe love going to 42nd Street. We drove from Greensboro to eat there. The seafood is excellent. My daughter had the filet and said it was extremely good as well.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AM42nd Street Good as ExpectedMy wife and I were celebrating our 10 year Anniversary and the food and service was good as always.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat first visit!I took my husband and our friends from Atlanta for his 40th birthday. He is an oyster lover and was really impressed by the quality and selection of oysters. Our group was very impressed with the menu but especially with the restaurant and the wait staff. Very good first impression. We're planning our next date night and will definitely be returning to 42nd Street!!!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMRaleigh ClassicI am so happy I finally went to the 42nd st OB. It is a true classic. The ambience can't be beat and the seafood is among the best in the area. Despite being around for a long time, the place is clean yet still has character. Very much appreciated is that even when full, they have put just the right ammount of sound proofing so you can still hear the others at your table.
My one and only complaint is that even though I ordered a "lightly blackened" fish, it was so salty that it was tough to finish. I know Cajun food, and blackening spice especially, is salty, but this was beyond the needed level. However the quality of fish and flavor was excellent. This wont stop me from returning and next time I will order grilled or fried.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA New Favorite When Visiting RaleigWe wanted a special weekend for graduation with many of us coming from out of town. We selected the 42nd Street Oyster Bar and now consider it our favorite in the entire area. From start to finish, every meal and every aspect of providing a great dining experience was attended to by a wonderful staff. Thank you! We will return on every visit!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMContinuing a good thingMy boyfriend has been a loyal customer for many, many years. He was into the night scene, coming from Wilson at least once a week during the 90's. He was a loyal follower of some of the bands that played regularly. Now his children are enjoying the food and ambience on a regular basis with family and friends also. Did I mention we travel from Greensboro? The food is great and just the total package is a pleasure.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat SeafoodFirst time dining at 42nd Street....but it will not be the last. Fantastic food and really good service, even on Mother's Day evening.
Everything we had was top-quality and the Oyster Sampler was amazing.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation Dinner SpotI loved the seafood bisque. I loved our waitress. And it was a perfect place to go to after graduation. The perfect mix of fancy and casual.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AM42nd Street Oyster Bar May 11 2013Food was good as ususal and fresh. Hushpuppies will fill you up before the main course if you are not careful.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the best seafood inSome of the best seafood in raleigh. Our waitress was super nice and went out of way to make sure we were taken care of. Also, i tried raw oysters for the first time and I am hooked! Going back next week.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday DinnerI love the food at 42nd Street. And they give big portions, enough for lunch the next day. However, I do not like how they host so many large groups. The night we were there, they had to have at least 5 parties that had more than 10 people. There was a group of 18-22 right next to our table. They were so loud, crowded the area making it difficult to leave and for our server to come to our table, and they kept staring at our food! Other than that, it was pretty good. I love how you can see directly into the kitchen.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat foodthe food was impeccable - hush puppies and oysters to start (go raw or go home) were 10/10, had the shrimp creole which was outstanding if you like it peppery. the experience could be improved - not so much "fun" as there could be but the restaurant is great looking. good choice of beers.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was good and it cameFood was good and it came to the table hot service was friendly and good.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat PlaceGreat place to eat with friends or couple. bartender needs to smile but was friendly enough. owning a nightclub, know how important a bartender is. The seafood was fresh and well prepared and the service was professional. This was an excellent restaurant with the ambiance being amazing. I do not live in Raleigh, but if my travels ever get me back there, I will definitely return to this gem.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent raw oysters. myexcellent raw oysters. my favorite was the nassawaddox. we sat at the bar and it is the only place you can get the steamed sea food. the seating at the bar is first come first serve and not a reservation that is made on open table. i reserved a table in case the bar was full. we got the hawaiian ahi tuna and the surf and turf. the rare ahi tuna was spectacular. very thin layer that was seared was perfect. i prefer sushi grade fish most of the time so i wouldnt have minded the tuna rare throughout. the steak was a perfect medium rare just the way it was ordered.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely top quality food.Absolutely top quality food. Have never had anything but first class service everytime we been to 42nd St. Prices are moderate and they have some great wines at reasonable prices.
