My daughter had the filet and said it was extremely good as well.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMContinuing a good thingMy boyfriend has been a loyal customer for many, many years. He was into the night scene, coming from Wilson at least once a week during the 90's. He was a loyal follower of some of the bands that played regularly. Now his children are enjoying the food and ambience on a regular basis with family and friends also. Did I mention we travel from Greensboro? The food is great and just the total package is a pleasure.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat SeafoodFirst time dining at 42nd Street....but it will not be the last. Worth every penny4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA Gem in RaleighWith a night to kill in Raleigh, I tried the 42nd Street Oyster Bar with an old friend. The seafood was fresh and well prepared and the service was professional. This was an excellent restaurant with the ambiance being amazing. I do not live in Raleigh, but if my travels ever get me back there, I will definitely return to this gem.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent raw oysters. myexcellent raw oysters. my favorite was the nassawaddox. we sat at the bar and it is the only place you can get the steamed sea food. the seating at the bar is first come first serve and not a reservation that is made on open table. i reserved a table in case the bar was full. we got the hawaiian ahi tuna and the surf and turf. the rare ahi tuna was spectacular. very thin layer that was seared was perfect. i prefer sushi grade fish most of the time so i wouldnt have minded the tuna rare throughout. the steak was a perfect medium rare just the way it was ordered.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely top quality food.Absolutely top quality food. Have never had anything but first class service everytime we been to 42nd St. Prices are moderate and they have some great wines at reasonable prices. Dinner for 2 and a bottle of wine for $75 makes for a great night out.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful time! TheWe had a wonderful time! Great start to First Friday events!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI saw you featured on PBSI saw you featured on PBS and invited a guest to join me for the evening. We were new to the restaurant and had a lovely time together. My guest ate way too much and complained that that the hush puppies were so good that he just could not stop eating them... and is hoping to come back soon! He commented twice later in the evening " what a nice time"! The portions are quite generous and the food was of great quality. Thank you for a nice time.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMalways a great spot in raleighalways a great spot in raleigh - have never complained and been back several times!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were in town to celebrateWe were in town to celebrate my Dad's birthday - he went to NC State in the 60s and wanted to come back to town to reminisce. The 42nd Street Oyster bar was the perfect place to do that. Surrounded by vintage pictures of Raleigh, we had a delicious meal. The staff couldn’t have been more attentive to our needs, making sure to seat us in a quiet booth because my dad is hard of hearing and making sure that every person who came to our table wished him a happy birthday. Sarah our server was incredibly patient and kind, encouraging us to take our time and enjoy the evening, especially when she surprised my Dad with a slice of his favorite pie. I'm so grateful to the entire staff!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest seafood we've had in yearsI'm a big fan of fried seafood, and the popcorn shrimp and flounder were outstanding. The coleslaw was very good too. Our only complaint was the we couldn't get steamed oysters at the table, but we'll sit at the oyster bar next time - and there definitely will be a next time.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came to the restaurantWe came to the restaurant with friends from Germany. Klaus is a chef, who has travelled extensively and really appreciated the quality of food and service provided. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and happily recommend your restaurant to our friends.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food selection and preparationThe food selection and preparation of our order was exceptional! Wait staff was equally exceptional with answers to all our questions and her recommendations were spot on. I have been here on numerous occasions and this was by far the very best dining experience I have had anywhere in the city in some time now. My guest were world travelers, now residing in DC, commented that this rivaled some of the best places they had been.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMthis place is awesome. Dontthis place is awesome. Dont be fool in thinking it is located on 42nd street. It was given that name a long time ago by locals who also had a favorite place on 42nd st. NYC. The menu is reprinted and changes daily.
The seafood choices are abundant and fresh. Lots of staff who can be seen in the prep and creative process. Staff are friendly and engaging.
While we did not order cocktails or beer it appears that local NC brews are the thing. We were in town 2 nights and had dinner both nights here. The soup choices are outstanding. We had two of the three offered. My favorite was the half shell oysters which were succulent and perfect. It can be noisy but the energy is pleasant and
symbiotic . You will not be disapointed.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved this restaurant. WillLoved this restaurant. Will definitely be going back again soon. Food and service were superb.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent restaurant and theExcellent restaurant and the best place that we dined at in Raleigh during our three day stay.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for seafood42nd Street Oyster Bar is fast becoming our favorite restaurant in Raleigh. We dine there about once a month. We brought out of town friends to the restaurant and they were as pleased as we were. My crab cakes were the best I've had since the Sea Grill on Times Square. The fresh fish the others had was prepared perfectly. We wanted to stuff our pockets with the hush puppies so we could have them again the next day. Our server was terrific and always there when needed. She did not rush us and allowed us to catch up with old friends at a leisurely pace.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great time but wereWe had a great time but were disappointed that we could not have steamed oysters at our table and there was an hour wait for the oyster bar3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTable was ready when we arrivedTable was ready when we arrived and staff was very friendly! Complimentary dessert for the birthday boy!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother Great MealWe always enjoy going to 42nd Street Oyster Bar, The prices are moderate and the food excellent. At our table we had crab cakes, cioppino, salmon and grouper. All were prepared perfectly and tasted great. We shared and the consensus was the crab cakes were number one with all of the others a close second. We go to so many places where there is inconsistency in the temperature of the food. Either some entrees are luke warm while others are hot or the seafood may be warm but the sides aren't. 42nd Street Oyster Bar always gets it right. The servers are consistently friendly and efficient. It is our favorite seafood restaurant in Raleigh.2/2/2013 12:00:00 AMSoooo perfect! So delicious! This was my Birthday dinner and it was out of this world amazing! Excellent food, excellent service. Well done!11/30/2012 12:00:00 AM
