Diner Reviews
  • "We decided to try something different for my birthday dinner. Well, it was different, but the food was mediocre and the place seemed more like a glorified cafeteria. Definitely not worth the trip."

  • "My husband and I went to dinner here for our anniversary and enjoyed every minute of our experience. From the moment you step off the elevator, you are greeted by the friendly hostess and staff and showed to your table. We went for an early dinner around 6:30, so the restaurant was a bit quiet, not empty, but picked up by the end of our meal. The food was delicious and the wine list extensive. I have a gluten allergy and our waiter was very attentive and concerned, he even came back out after we ordered the Octopus appetizer to let me know it is cooked in beer. We really enjoyed ourselves and could not have asked for a better anniversary dinner. Thanks!"

  • "Chef was amazing the food was to die for and i would have loved to had a face to face interaction with the chef to shake his hand as in all my years i have been in some very fine establishments and still have never had such good food as i recieved for our dinner. Thank you again for a wonderul meal and evening and maybe next time i can request a more private dining area for my wife and I."

  • "High end and High up! Went here to celebrate, it was a very nice atmosphere, great view, even saw fireworks. Excellent service, eclectic fancy drink names, and entrees, but great quality and very tasty. Portions were a little small, and it was very expensive, which should be expected for a place at the top of the Ritz. Only downfall is that its in white plains, which I hope this place helps to rejuvenate, but do plan on coming back for happy hour in the very nice looking bar. Felt a bit like Vegas in WP, which can be fun!"

  • "Food is uninspired. Ok, but the best was the jamon. Watermelon "gazpacho" was watered down watermelon juice."

  • "We had many dinners at 42 and always loved it, the food, the ambience, the service. The service is still great, the same people are there but what happened to the food.... it was mediocre and the place has closed off the nice restaurant section and designated it for events only. The ambience is not as nice as it used to be, there are wood doors and walls with awful murals on it and it just lost its charm. I am afraid we won't come back, which is disappointing after having had so many lovely evenings at this restaurant. We used to recommend the restaurant to many people, but won't do that either."

  • "We have been to this restaurant several times, and each time the food here gets worse. Ordered 4 small tapas: salmon was pretty tasteless, eggplant dish was just terrible (fried and salty stuff, didn't see any eggplant there), hamon croquets were decent. My husband got a duck, which turned out to be piece of dry and old meat. My pasta was soooo salty it was impossible to eat. Over all I would recommend skipping this place and just go to BLT downstairs. I dont mind paying for good food, but this was just money down the drain."

  • "escorted to a table for 2 on upper level, in between 2 service door. unfortunately the only way to read menu was when service door opened. Finally remember iphone flashlight came to rescue and ordered dinner. had to ask for candle illuminate table which wasn't bright enough to see food ! When the tapas and salad arrived noticed there were no utensils. Later the waiter said he would slice our entree(ribeye steak) when it arrived again not only did he not serve the cut up steak he did NOT even leave serving utensils(again)! had to ask busboy for some (as we only had 2 knives and forks) utensils to serve a fork and spoon(tableware).floor manager who had visited other table(not ours) identified herself as we left at the elevator(TOO LATE)!!"

  • "I invited 7 of my high school students to celebrate this year's 3 national and international (Beijing) debating competition wins. This was a unique experience for them. The food was excellent, tapas to desserts. We ordered almost everything on the menu and the clean plates told the story. A pleasure in every way...my thank you to the chefs, the staff and the scholars who worked to get here."

  • "View is spectacular but Much too noisy, could not hear anyone at table talking"

  • "42 is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is simply amazing, with a broad wine selection and the beautiful view of the city, it is simply a must go to place. I recommend it to all my friends and clients."

  • "42 has breathtaking views from both the dining area and the bar. It is the one chosen by friends and colleagues on special occasions. The bar is cool, the drinks ALWAYS great and the bartenders offer excellent service always with a smile. The dining area..special! The staff has always rendered great service and aim to please. The food...nice presentation and then I always say to myself, how can they get away with this? over and over? My friend and I looked at each other puzzled, while the non- foodies enjoyed their meal and one more time I walked away paying for an expensive meal (it was a special occasion I organized and paid for) and feeling hungry and dissatisfied."

  • "The waitress we had said she could not give us bread for the table but she soon after gave a basket of breadsticks to the table right next to us when they asked. This kind of blew my mind. She also didnt tell us the specials for the day but she did for all other tables she was waiting. i thought this was extremely unfair and wrong of her. This is the only bad experience i have had here. What a poor, unfair waitress. Great food though."

  • "We had a full meal including tapas, salads, entrees and dessert! We even ordered the bread basket! Although the entrees were great, next time, we'll enjoy just the tapas. Those were amazing! And don't forget to order the donuts ... YUM!!!!!!"

  • "The restaurant is great, we choose 4 diferents kind of tapas and thwy were amazing: taste, presentation and the seaweed pasta is delicious."

  • "The view from the restaurant is beautiful. We arrived before sundown and we watched as a rainstorm approached. We then saw 5 rainbows in the next hour! Really spectacular! The food, while nicely presented, was just mediocre. My husband and our friend had halibut which they said was bland. I had duck on a bed of quinoa. The duck was tasty but the quinoa was a bit undercooked and was extremely crunchy. The highlight of the meal was the dessert - the mini-donuts with vanilla pastry cream - they were very fresh an delicious. The service was very good. With a restaurant this pricey, we expected the food to be better. I would recommend it for drinks and tapas, but not for dinner."

  • "Always a great experience! It is not just about dining it's about enjoying ambience, music, service! And when we talk about food, we define The 42 restaurant the best in Westchester, NY ! Always great and special tastes!!! Thank you Chef Anthony Goncalves and Staff for everything!!! Paul Simao and Debora Dividino"

  • "We live and work in the area and have always loved this restaurant but appreciate it even more of late. The renovated space is relaxed yet upscale. The new menu is mouthwatering and the new desert chef has made desert a must try! I look forward to going back frequently- not just for special occasions!"

  • "The evening was breathtaking. It was my husbands birthday and we enjoyed delicious seafood. The service was perfect not too much but absolutley enough. The view even on a rainy night was memorable. "

  • "Loved the casual nature of the place especially after hearing about a dress code. It felt like a comfortable place to hang out. But the food is tapas in name only. Please can someone give the menu some TLC?"
    Dined on 5/13/2014
  • "To be fair, we all chose the same entree due to dietary restrictions and the limits of the menu, and it was tasty and well prepare, but lacked any special flair in substance/preparation and it was just "very good" which for the price was below expectations. This said, the service team, led by a robust Italian gentleman, was exceptional: warm, attentive and engaging. "

  • "Dined here for the first time this past Mother's Day. This was the 1st Mother's Day in several years I had off to be able to take my mother out. * I am in the F&B / Culinary Industry myself. From the moment we stepped off the elevator to the end, I had no problems with service. My Server, Eddie was on point and attentive. Cuisine wise, no issues. Hot food was hot when needed and Cold when needed. Some plating could have been better. Bread bowl should have been warmed before serving. Overall, well done! I loved the space. Great Bar Area! I plan on definitely coming back and maybe hosting a dinner one night. "

  • "The main selling point of 42 is of course the view. And oh what a view it has. You can see the Hudson river and miles and miles of Westchester county. The food was good but nothing to rave about that you can't get anywhere else and the service was on point. Highly recommend coming here at least once for the views for that special occasion. There is a bar as well and I'm sure its very popular during the evening hours when all the lights come up in valley."

  • "We had a very delicious meal but were disappointed by the poorly coordinated and disorganized wait service who all appeared to be acting as if this was their first day."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Great location and place for tapas, but was disappointed on the dinner menu. The food was good, but we were expecting more from such a location and restaurant.. will go back.. but only for tapas"

  • "The wine list and the quality of the food are consistently at a very high level. From the freshly made bread basket to the octopus to various entrée (my favorite is the duck) to the lovely desert, the food is of extraordinary quality. Add onto that the nice view from high up without obstruction and the friendly service of the crew, this has become my personal favorite quickly in the past two months."

  • "I was very impressed with the fabulous service of our waitress. Courteous. Friendly very attentive "
    Dined on 5/3/2014
  • "First impression was the chair . as uncomfortable so as to be suitable for a fast food establishment to discourage lingering. Then came the friendly but inexperienced and uninformed wait staff, completely inappropriate for what is billed as a fine dining spot. Good appetizers disappointing mains . I won"t return."

  • "Tables for two are REALLY close together. Kinda kills any romantic elements to the meal."

  • "Used a groupon and went on a weeknight. Vies from the top of the Ritz in this restaurant are beautiful, seeing all the way over the city to the water. Did not feel like we were sitting on too of other tables/diners which can sometimes be the case at other restaurants. Food was sooo delicious! We got the fried calamari and 1/2 dozen oysters to start. My husband got the steak special and I got the halibut for entree. I can't say enough about both. I even asked the chef for the recipe for the wild mushroom sauce the steak was set in! We both got dessert which was also very tasty..... I'll without a doubt be back!!"

  • "All my reviews are based on 5:30 pm weekday dinner. We were seated facing a large windows with beautiful view, and got all attention from the waiter. other than 2 tables , there were nobody around, very quiet. The food coming in time and tasteful. The waiter recommanded some off menu items also tasted wonderful but with small size / price. When we left around 7:00pm, the place is getting more crowded, some coming for the bar, so I am not sure if the service will remain the same."
    Dined on 4/28/2014
  • "The view was as impressive as we expected it to be. The menu was varied and interesting, and the food was terrific. We had the fried calamari/shrimp app and the sliders, as well. We had the tortellini and the cavatelli pasta entrees and then the chocolate peanut butter cake. Everything was memorable and it will be hard to order something different when we return. The service was fine, nothing special, nothing to complain about either. The atmosphere in the upstairs room of the restaurant was very pretty, loved the birch pillars lit with votives. The bar, where we stopped by first to have a pre-dinner drink, does have a beautiful view, but the trendy and cheap looking decor really spoiled the atmosphere. "

  • "We made a reservation for a window seat, which they said they did not have available when we got there. We were told the only window tables available were tables of 4 and they could not seat 2 at these tables. While we were there, 2 separate groups of 2 were seated at the tables for 4. I order the 24 oz rib eye which contained approx. 21 oz of fat. Once our entrée was served, we never saw our waiter again until after we were finished eating. I told the waiter how bad the steak was and instead of taking it off my bill they gave me an after dinner cordial. This did not make up for the overall experience and I would not go back. "
