A word from 410 Bank Street
A winding slate path through overhanging vines and tropical foliage leads to the historic 1840 Carriage house. Slowly spinning ceiling fans stir the aromas of French-New Orleans accented cooking and fresh seafood and steaks grilling over mesquite. Envision yourself in New Orleans or Key West. In the canopied garden, or on the candlelit veranda, dine on the exotic cuisine of internationally acclaimed Chef Chet Saign, whose creations include local-caught tuna, swordfish and mahi-mahi in fabulous sauces, elaborate entrees of local shellfish & lobster, and the justly famous smoked, grilled and blackened steaks and prime rib. Beyond the menu, a dozen or more seafood specials are offered nightly. The helpful staff, coolly attired in 410's signature tropical batik, makes you feel like you are dining on a private yacht.   • "We have been coming to Cape May for almost 40 years, and always try to have one dinner here...never disappoints. The menu is definitely for foodies, with a New Orleans flavor. Not a big menu, but definitely innovative. Service is top notch, and the ambiance is "casual elegance". Not a discount restaurant by any means, but worth an occasional splurge!"

The food is great, a bit pricey, but the portions are large enough that you actually get a "meal," unlike most places that charge $30+ for a meal. The staff is friendly and attentive without being annoying, as well as knowledgeable and experienced. Overall, it's a great place to eat."

We were late for our reservations (a must even on a Monday night in July) and somewhat squeezed into a table, but the service and meal were great."

  • "This was the third time I have eaten at 410 Bank Street over the last decade. Initially, the Asian Fusian menu coupled with a creative mix from the kitchen, made the experience unique and fresh. This past week, the tables seem even closer together than before- you could not cram more seats into a small courtyard, the food seemed hastily thrown together with pre-made sauces, the Macademia Crusted Mahi was tasteless and bland and maybe even a little undercooked, and the appetizers were small and unexceptional. I know it is difficult to maintain a fresh and vibrant restaurant, but there are others in the area that do it right year after year- Fredas and Washington Street to name two in Cape May."

  • "Went here for our last night of vacation. My tuna special was great and the menu has a lot of variety, as long as you are not a vegetarian. We did ask the server and he was helpful but the dinner entrée for my boyfriend was a bit un-inspired. He was not upset, as he deals with this a lot but at a higher end restaurant, I would have expected a little more. We got the asparagus appetizer, which was delicious, however, the chef then sent out the same asparagus preparation as part of the vegetarian entrée. So I do recommend this place for seafood lovers, just not vegetarians."

  • "This is our 4th visit and this time we were not impressed. They ran out of one of the specials at 7:30. Food was not well described and the waitress could not answer as to whether there was oregano in the dish and she did not offer to find out. For a restaurant that bills itself as a place for foodies, I was disappointed. Desserts were fair at best. Key lime pie was very good but the apple pie had way too much cinnamon. Probably will try one of the other Cape May restaurants next time."

  • "We've dined at 410 Bank Street a number of times over the years, and always find the food to be delicious. Noticed that one of the entrees was a little bit different this time, maybe they have a new chef? Still tasted good, though. This was the first time, however, that the service was less-than-great. We were seated for a while before our waitress came to take our order, then she disappeared. We finally got the attention of another wait person and he came to our table immediately. Eventually we got our food, and an explanation from the original waitress that another table had taken up a lot of her time with many questions. All in all, we like this restaurant for a "special occasion" when we're in Cape May, and we will go again."

  • "Went here 16 years ago and it was a revelation. One of the best meals we'd eaten and a funky atmosphere. This time the food was terrific, just not mind-blowing. We were seated in one of the larger rooms with a party of about 16 women celebrating a birthday. The noise was deafening. It would have been a 20 minute wait for a table elsewhere they said. Not fun. We suggest you insist on a table in a small room removed from any huge parties--most of the rooms are more intimate. The service at 410 Bank is among the best anywhere. The waiters are informed and professional. The bus staff is well-trained and usually unobtrusive. The host seemed stricken he couldn't offer us a better table. It's not cheap, but I do recommend it."

It was much more crowded. The food was good but the noise level was horrible and distracting. Service was slow."

It seems like they've made an effort to freshen the menu this year and we really enjoyed our dinner. As usual, the service was excellent. The only continuing criticism is that the prices are a bit steep even for Cape May."

  • "We had a memorable meal at 410 Bank Street, with one course more delicious than the next. The oyster stew is as stupendous as ever - that one dish alone is worth a long trip. But the rest of the meal was just as delicious. We first discovered this restaurant about 15 years ago and keep coming back. A few years ago it seemed to have faltered a bit but it has come roaring back, better than ever. The service was excellent, too - attentive without being overbearing, friendly without taking over our conversation. I can't wait for our next trip to Cape May so that I can return!"

  • "This restaurant is a wonderful place to go when you expect nothing but the best! The service is excellent the food is a culinary experience and the atmosphere is relaxed. The tables are small and a bit squished together but its because they want to serve as many eager guests as possible with out having to turn people away. Its worth the trip to Cape May! Just remember you need a reservation which they honor on time....Kudos!"

  • "We always visit 410 Bank Street on vacation. The food is amazing and everything is fresh and beautifully presented. They always have lots if dinner specials added to the menu. Our lobster bisque and porcini mushroom soups were incredible. My salmon special was almost too pretty to eat. Desserts are also great--we went with a white chocolate cake with graham crust and berries. My only complaint is that the only wines are local as it is BYOB. Sorry, but the wines don't do the good justice. I hope that they will get a grown up wine list or get a liquor license!"
