A word from 4 Olives Restaurant
Opened in July of 2004 with such culinary specialties as: fresh fish, wild game, local ingredients, and artesian cheeses. The ambiance of the restaurant can be described as upscale contemporary, the dining room itself surrounds a large glass wine cave. The featured style of cuisine is a Contemporary Mediterranean-American menu with Pacific influences, emphasized by extremely fresh, made-to-order items. Every item is made in house. Our desserts are prepared by our talented pastry chef, and Scott's wife, Rachel Benjamin. The bar menu consists of well-crafted, classic cocktails using fresh juices and premium spirits. With over 400 fine spirits, 60 beers, and 700 wines which are kept in our temperature controlled, glass wine cave, 70 of which are also served by the glass

  • "From a weird seating behind the kitchen underneath a techno-blaring speaker to a server who knew nothing of the wine pairings with the prix fixe to an undrinkable dessert wine reminiscent of Robotussin to badly over salted entrees, 4 Olives was just off their game this night. This place can be excellent, but given the prices, it needs to be more consistent. It was still good, but failed this time to meet expectations."

  • "Had dinner and drinks and 4 olives for our anniversary. Food was very good and drinks were great as well. I think the new location is much more appropriate for the quality of restaurant this is. Wife has the tenderloin tips and I had the ahi tuna (lamb was sold out) and both were delicious. I'd definitely come again but only on special occasions. A bit more expensive than a comparable meal at Harry's but a good spot."

  • "I took my wife out to this restaurant after doing a good but of research. The food left a lot to be desired, especially for the prices they charge. I ordered the mango pepper salmon(medium rare as suggested by the "chef") and my wife the lamb shank. The salmon was well done and also bland. No mango and no pepper. It was glazed with brown sugar and tasted like it came from a can. The lamb shank looked like a giant turkey leg presented on a bed of giblets. My wife could barely stand eating it and ended up eating my salmon, the lesser of two evils. The lamb was so greasy and dry. It tasted like they had dredged it in cinnamon and slow cooked it for a week. Descent place for a drink but not sure if I can give them a second chance on the food."

  • "Four Olives has the best most innovative food in the Midwest. I sometime think that those of us who live in Manhattan do not realize what a treasure we have in Four Olives. You would have to go to one of the best restaurants in the largest cities in the country to find the innovative food, extensive wine list and craft cocktails we take for granted going to Four Olives. All of this in a casual non-stuffy atmosphere is very hard to find. Also, don't skip dessert. The desserts, which are sharable, are every bit as special as the rest of the menu. It is one of the best restaurants and bars I have ever enjoyed."

  • "They always say the real meaning of what you say is after the but. The acoustics are not conducive for a quiet meal. The blender and pounding ice from the bar (I think) were loud and the floor/open ceiling do not absorb sound. Not a big issue for me, but I would guess it would be for some. Will it stop me from coming back? NO. I ate dinner early, so the crowd was smaller, but I could see this being a great place for a drink, appetizer, dinner later in the evening. I don't drink alcohol, so I can't comment on the wine or the drinks. I would recommend 4Olives to anyone, especially for the food - they can decide about the atmosphere and the wine/drinks. CRAB CAKES ARE AWESOME."

  • "We are regulars at 4 Olives and are always bragging about what a wonderful place it is to eat to our out of town friends. Two couples of long time friends drove over for dinner Saturday night so of course they all wanted to check this place out. They were all in awe of how good the food, wine, service and ambience was and could totally understand why we are always talking about it. One of the guys usually just picks at his food when we go out and he not only ate every bite of the beef tenderloin tips with rissotto and asparagus but ordered the blueberry cheesecake as well and raved about both. Needless to say they will all be back next time they are in Manhattan. Once again 4 Olives makes us proud to live in Manhattan. "

  • "Since they have moved the service and attention to detail has gone down hill. May be they are too busy to care. I don't think it was the waitresses complete fault. They need more staff or a better system. It took 30 minutes to get a glass of wine . The cost for Manhattan doesn't justify the experience. I am going to cheaper alternates in the future. "

We have been coming to Manhattan for four years during our daughter's time at Kansas State and this restaurant is a must every time we come to town! She is staying for grad school so we can look forward to two more years of amazing meals. "

  • "I took my family there with high hope, we arrived right on time with reservations, yet we had to wait 10 minutes. Everything about the experience was slow, from being waited on, getting our drinks (pop and water), taking our order, they didn't have two of our appetizers and it took them 15 minutes to inform us of that, the food was fair at best, and the thing that really burned me 30 dollars for pop. She tells me. "oh we don't do free refills," that would have been nice to know up front. Overall the experience was terrible, we would never go back!"

  • "The service was very slow, albeit Mother's Day and our dining party was in no rush. The shrimp & grits was an outstanding choice. Although the menu and the server failed to mention that this dish is very spicy. The coffee, prepared by French drip method, was very good and prepared with locally roasted beans. Overall a nice experience, although somewhat pricey for Manhattan. "

  • "You should really mention that you charge for every drink before your staff offers refills. Literally the only place in town that charges for refils and doesnt know how to properly split the bill. We asked for a 3 way spil and I ended up paying $86 while the rest of the table was around $30. The breaded chixken brest was also quite dry. How ever the cheese platter was delicious. "

  • "We're longtime Hibachi Hut patrons looking for a regular haunt. The 4 Olives has been fun when we want great food and service. We recently stopped by the new location with friends, having talked the restaurant up to them. Though we had reservations, the hostess seated us next to the kitchen where the noise and traffic was the greatest. A table looked available the whole time we were there which was in a nicer and quieter area. Our server also seemed to relegate us to second-class status. The food was quite good, as always. Perhaps the increased size has caused mgmt. to hire new folks that need training. We are hopeful it will improve."

  • "Went to 4O for Easter brunch. The food was great, as usual. Our party loved the bacon-wrapped gorgonzola stuffed dates. Shrimp & grits was good too -very spicy. Crab omelette & crab cake benedict - both superb. BUT the highlight of the trip were top-of-the-line Ramos gin fizzes. The bartender hand shakes them for a full 12 minutes! Would make you feel terribly guilty if they weren't so darn good! Frothy, creamy, and so delicate. A hint of lemon, orange flower water, refreshing deliciousness. This is a drink hard to find outside of New Orleans, and 4O's version is superb. But please be kind - don't order if the bar is busy. And remember that 12 long minutes of hand shaking when you settle your account . . ."

  • "An incredibly diverse selection, with very unique combinations of foods. I had grilled figs wrapped in bacon and stuffed with cheese, flounder in a creamy dijon sauce with sauteed kale and mashed potatoes, and a lovely tiramasu for dessert. I had a wonderful Chardonnay I had never tried before, and my dining companions chose from a long list of cocktails - all dated for when they first created - to find the perfect ones. A really fun night, but not cheap. Special occasion for us."

Our waitress was wonderful. It is pricey, but if you're looking for a place to go for a special occasion, I would highly recommend Four Olives/ "

  • "Expensive places need to deliver perfectly. 4Olives did not. Service was OK, but nothing special. Had to ask several times to get wine from our unreachable chilled bucket instead of waiter being observant. Food was spotty. Gazpacho, smoked salmon goat cheese flatbread were fantastic. Med rare steak came medium well. In Kansas at $38 it should be perfect. Green bean sides were perfect, garlic mashed potatoes so-so and outdated. Wine list was overly ambitious. Too many at $150+ and not well represented at $50-80. For a wine bar surprisingly low selection of wine by glass. Housemade lemoncello real disappointment, made with lemon juice and soda water. Don't mind paying for great food, but not up to my expectations for the price range."

  • "This was our first visit to 4 Olives since they changed locations. They've done a magnificent job inside and have the cutest outdoor dining area, as well. Unfortunately, the brick government building across the street doesn't do much for the view out the beautiful windows, but this is Manhattan, Kansas, not a pretty resort location. The food was excellent, as always, and the service superb. Our server is a student at Kansas State University, as several of our servers in the past have also been--absolutely top-notch, intelligent, personable, but never intrusive. We asked for a wine recommendation, and after narrowing our price range and taste preferences, we were served the best wine we've ever had! 4 Olives is a truly special place!"

  • "My wife and I had our wedding reception here 2 years ago for our small wedding. The owners are very pleasant and accomidating to your wishes. We have been back ther a few times since then and it has only got better. The menu is fantastic all the food is fresh and made from scratch. The wine list is something of wonder there are so many options if you can't find what your looking for you don't know what you want. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgable, if you don't know what something is the have the answer for you. They are very good at giving you you space and privacy. Other than the prices being a little on the high side in my opinion i have nothing bad to say. I would recommend 4olives to anyone!!"

  • "Over cooked both steaks not just once but twice. The manager didn't even have the courtesy to speak with me and try to charge me even though I only took three bites. Nobody cared one bit and this was a birthday dinner for my wife. Will never go to or recommend ever again."

  • "We went to 4 Olives on a Friday night for a 'date' night. We opted for the Prixe Fixe menu with the wine pairings. Food was good - however vegetable choice was odd (corn on the cob, halved, grilled - not easy to eat). Two days later, i'm not craving any of what I ate enough to go back. But the big reason why we won't be going back is the lack of attention to the bill. Two reasons - it took forever for our server to bring us the check. When we finally got it, we had been charged for each individual part of the Prixe Fixe menu, as well as the Prixe Fixe wine pairings. This ended up being $50 more than the menu price. Check was resolved (not quickly), andit put a damper on the end of the evening."

  • "This was our first visit to the new location. 4-O used to serve superb food in okay surroundings. Now, if possible, even the food quality has improved to match the gorgeous new space. We arrived early to enjoy a cocktail at the lovely copper bar which will only grow more beautiful over time. We had the most amazing sea bass special served on white gazpacho and lemon parsley risotto, each delicious on thier own, but together just sublime - their best dish yet! The deconstructed everything bagel appetizer was delicious and fun to eat. And the chocolate pots du creme rivaled the stilton cheesecake as hands-down best dessert ever. This is a very special restaurant which we can not recommend highly enough!"
