A word from 4 Olives Restaurant
Opened in July of 2004 with such culinary specialties as: fresh fish, wild game, local ingredients, and artesian cheeses. The ambiance of the restaurant can be described as upscale contemporary, the dining room itself surrounds a large glass wine cave. The featured style of cuisine is a Contemporary Mediterranean-American menu with Pacific influences, emphasized by extremely fresh, made-to-order items. Every item is made in house. Our desserts are prepared by our talented pastry chef, and Scott's wife, Rachel Benjamin. The bar menu consists of well-crafted, classic cocktails using fresh juices and premium spirits. With over 400 fine spirits, 60 beers, and 700 wines which are kept in our temperature controlled, glass wine cave, 70 of which are also served by the glass

  • "This was our first visit to 4 Olives since they changed locations. They've done a magnificent job inside and have the cutest outdoor dining area, as well. Unfortunately, the brick government building across the street doesn't do much for the view out the beautiful windows, but this is Manhattan, Kansas, not a pretty resort location. The food was excellent, as always, and the service superb. Our server is a student at Kansas State University, as several of our servers in the past have also been--absolutely top-notch, intelligent, personable, but never intrusive. We asked for a wine recommendation, and after narrowing our price range and taste preferences, we were served the best wine we've ever had! 4 Olives is a truly special place!"

  • "We went to 4 Olives on a Friday night for a 'date' night. We opted for the Prixe Fixe menu with the wine pairings. Food was good - however vegetable choice was odd (corn on the cob, halved, grilled - not easy to eat). Two days later, i'm not craving any of what I ate enough to go back. But the big reason why we won't be going back is the lack of attention to the bill. Two reasons - it took forever for our server to bring us the check. When we finally got it, we had been charged for each individual part of the Prixe Fixe menu, as well as the Prixe Fixe wine pairings. This ended up being $50 more than the menu price. Check was resolved (not quickly), andit put a damper on the end of the evening."

  • "My wife and I had our wedding reception here 2 years ago for our small wedding. The owners are very pleasant and accomidating to your wishes. We have been back ther a few times since then and it has only got better. The menu is fantastic all the food is fresh and made from scratch. The wine list is something of wonder there are so many options if you can't find what your looking for you don't know what you want. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgable, if you don't know what something is the have the answer for you. They are very good at giving you you space and privacy. Other than the prices being a little on the high side in my opinion i have nothing bad to say. I would recommend 4olives to anyone!!"

  • "Over cooked both steaks not just once but twice. The manager didn't even have the courtesy to speak with me and try to charge me even though I only took three bites. Nobody cared one bit and this was a birthday dinner for my wife. Will never go to or recommend ever again."

  • "This was our first visit to the new location. 4-O used to serve superb food in okay surroundings. Now, if possible, even the food quality has improved to match the gorgeous new space. We arrived early to enjoy a cocktail at the lovely copper bar which will only grow more beautiful over time. We had the most amazing sea bass special served on white gazpacho and lemon parsley risotto, each delicious on thier own, but together just sublime - their best dish yet! The deconstructed everything bagel appetizer was delicious and fun to eat. And the chocolate pots du creme rivaled the stilton cheesecake as hands-down best dessert ever. This is a very special restaurant which we can not recommend highly enough!"

  • "We were seated in what can only be described as a pastry shop. It had the same lighting as the kitchen, complete with white walls, bright white lights, and a cooler of pastries. Poor ambiance (and not exactly romantic). Then the time between being seated and our server coming to greet us was between 10 and 15 minutes. Poor service. Then the server said we could not order off of the normal menu, and had to order a four course meal for $69 each (not including wine or liquor). $145 before tip. No salad, no bread, and NO DRINKS (because the server never bothered to ask us if we wanted anything to drink besides water.) I would no longer recommend 4 Olives."

  • "The Valentine's Day Prix Fixe menu was absolutely wonderful. The new restaurant is lovely, albeit a bit noisy. We were seated in the indoor patio area and were disappointed with the iron patio furniture we ate on that had no linens and uncomfortable chairs. The lighting was also harsh and bright, and it was difficult to talk. It was odd in that we couldn't really hear each other speak, but we could hear those at the tables around us quite well. I have no doubt that with time they will get those bugs worked out. We will definitely be back!!"

  • "We went on Valentine's Day so we were hoping for the whole romantic experience. We ended up waiting over an hour for our entrée. That is not an exaggeration, we really had to sit and wait and hope for flavorless chicken (it was okay, but definitely not worth the price), and decent fish that was masked by extremely undercooked and chewy rice. That meal was the most expensive out of any we have paid for in Manhattan and we were served food that could have been found at any local chain for under 20 dollars. It was extremely disappointing and we will definitely be telling our friends and family where NOT to go. You need to compete with Harry's and Della Voce. Both of their cuisines reign over yours completely AND they are less expensive."

While the food and service were very good, the experience could be improved with a better view of the operation at a higher table and you wouldn't feel like the service staff was starring down at you all the time. I understand and respect it's a service area, I just feel like being elevated would improve the overall experience. That said, we would return."

However I believe the service staff is going to take a bit of time getting used to the new open kitchen format, particularly in relation to personnel movement. Just a few notes: fyi, we were seated in the corner table before the turn to the restrooms 1) the servers were definitely having movement issues around each other at the food window. Tweaking the spotting of the servers at the window is a must 2) Put up a restroom here sign; I watched several people walk right by 3) You might consider pulling the 3 tables where we were seated; servers and patrons kept having serious near misses with each other. I'm told I nearly wore someone's dinner home at one point."

  • "We had a fabulous final pre fixe meal at the old 4 Olives location. Gumbo with cornbread and then our all time favorite atlantic char over roasted corn risotto. Oh my gosh. Perfect ending to some pretty fabulous meals over the past 9 and a half years. Then to top it off we had a marvelous lemon dessert with blackberry sauce and chantilly whipped cream. It doesn't get any better than that. We are so looking forward to beginning the next chapter at the new location in downtown Manhattan. Congratulations 4 Olives!"

  • "The amuse was a chunk of cheese and slice of date. Yum! The starter was a slight twist on the mac and cheese and was so delicious. Then you move on to Lobster Pot Pie. Are you kidding me? Can't get any more perfect than that except the dessert was an oreo black and white cheesecake! Incredible meal. We have loved all of you evenings spent at 4 Olives and are really excited to experience the new location downtown. Congratuations 4 O. You deserve this! We already have our reservation for the 31st."

  • "For a total bill of $218 including tip for two people, the experience should be EXCELLENT. I found the food to be only fair. The menu included soup, but the server asked for our appetizer order first and we never got the soup. The oysters on the half shell did not taste fresh and were not enjoyable.I have had the oysters before and they were very nice. I ordered the grilled lobster tail and had to send it back because it was not done.The second serving was cooked enough but the dish was incredibly bland no spice or flavoring at all. How about butter? And finally, chocolate and caramel the dessert I had planned to order was all gone.All in all, at that price every detail and every dish should be absolute perfection. It was disappointing."

  • "An evening at 4 Olives is always a memorable event. In the past I have mentioned the wonderful dishes, outstanding wine list, and exceptional service. On our most recent visit we wanted to be a little adventurous and explore the cocktail menu. We arrived about an hour early to enjoy and learn about some of the wonderful and creative libations crafted by Griffin. He is a very talented and knowledgeable mixologist. After a few cocktails and some insight on distilled spirits from Griff, you will understand the difference between a bartender and mixologist. Of course it could just be the St. Germain talking!"
