3rd Cousin is a pop-up for now (as it morphed into that from its recent location at Kinfolk), but will be moving into their new space in November...but, for now, are hosting family style dinners in a secret location in the Mission (on the Bernal border) that is just a delightful space. I won't divulge the location, but will say that it is very unusual, and the ambiance is outstanding. Love the food...just LOVE it. Very inventive, delicious & highly recommend the wine pairings. We were all even invited back to the kitchen to see the chef in action! This is a must-do event, and we loved every second of it. Also met some charming people who dined alongside us. Cannot wait to visit the new restaurant in the permanent space!

The food was really good. The ambiance really bad. In such a small restaurant small screaming children should not be allowed. The table next us had 6 small children who screamed and had tantrums through our whole dining experience. The parents did absolutely nothing about it (shame on them). When I finally went to the wait staff about it they said "I know, I know" in a very empathetic way but also did nothing about it. The chef/owner delivered our meal and apologized and said there was nothing he could do but ask to them to leave, which he did not do. I think he could have asked them to quiet their children or, yes, asked them to leave. Our whole meal and experience was ruined. I had a headache and stomach ache after that, ugh.

The food was beautifully presented and equally matched in taste. I thought entrees were priced a little on the high side. Where the marked up prices really became noticeable was in their wines. I ordered a glass of Elke pinoit noir rose and it was $14 dollars and bot a very generous pour. This bottle retails for $20

I couldn't speak more highly about my experience here. The chef * owner, Greg, was extremely hospitable the moment I walked in the door. The food was about the best I have ever had in San Francisco. This was more than just a meal, it was an experience that I can't wait to enjoy many more times in the future. He has won over my support for his new restaurant '3rd Cousin' via Kickstarter!

It's hard to find a place where every bite of every dish is perfect and amazing. This place is it. Service was very warm and the place has a cozy, down-to-earth feel about it. The food, however, is extraordinary - fresh ingredients and delicious complex flavors but never pretentious or trying too hard. I would eat here every night if I could...

Just a superb semi pop-up soon to transform into a brick and mortar permanent restaurant almost next door. Truly destination quality food lovingly prepared and served by a dedicated staff. We've been twice now and are returning this evening and on both occasions were personally welcomed (and checked in on as well) by chef/owner Greg Lutes. Most highly recommended!

Found Kinfolk accidentially and the chef gave us so much surprise. SBP gave me WOWs, Rich Table have few great dishes and Kinfolk hits all the notes perfectly. The smoked mozarella papadella is rich in taste and full of layers. The pine nut fritters and the Dungeness crab stuffed zucchini blosooms are soft and creamy, the taste of crab sweetened the blosooms. The sauce is a bit light in quantity. Otherwise, it is a terrific meal.

We had a chance to talk to both of the chefs after our dinner about cooking techniques. We loved the tasting menu, and they were happy to accommodate our dietary requests. Greg, Daniel, and Rachel are very cool people.

Kinfolk uses mostly farm-fresh ingredients and it shows. The orange juice was squeezed in front of us and every single brunch item was fantastic. The heirloom tomato and corn succotash was so delicious that we were practically licking our plates! The quinoa cakes were crisp and spicy, and the hangar steak and eggs were perfectly cooked. I hope this popup sticks around.

What an amazing experience. The food, the service - everything was wonderful. You must have the seared scallops and the pork belly. As the maitre d' said - it is the best dish in San Francisco. We just wanted to get a large bowl of the truffle sauce that was on it. The duck was the best I have had in years - moist and juicy with an incredible flavor. I also loved all of the vegetables. Each preparation was unique yet delicious. I was taught that you can always tell how good a chef is by his preparation of vegetables. Judging by this, the Chef received an A+. You have to try it. A big bonus too, you can talk in normal voice tones and still hear each other. That is seldom found in Bay Area restaurants.

My husband and I enjoy the many fine restaurants here in the bay area and think our food is perhaps the finest in the world. We took another couple to Kinfolk, it was both of our anniversaries, and the other couple has wheat and dairy allergies. Eating out with them can be a trying experience. However this night at Kinfolk was perfect. They felt comfortable with the many selections they had and the wait staff's knowledge was incredible. We must have had 7 different dishes and each one was superb. Possibly one of the best meals I have ever had. All four of us were delighted-it made for a great evening.

I have to say that I have been here 2 times in one week, and I plan to go as many times I can get in there. Greg is a great chef. This place has great food, great wine. The staff is WONDERFUL. I have nothing but the BEST to say about this place. (Sunday brunch is awesome too). The only thing I told Greg and staff to their face is that I won't tell anyone how great this place is because as soon as people know how wonderful this restaurant is, they will mob it. Wait...too late. Oh well. Go enjoy yourself. Greg deserves all the respect!!!

Kinfolk was a nice little neighborhood place. The food was tasty - their maple bacon was particularly yummy, and the potatoes were awesome, though the crab & cheese egg scramble could have used a more interesting cheese as the mozzarella didn't particularly register; still it was tasty even without any cheese presence. Reasonable price, no wait, quick and friendly service - nice, drama-free local eatery.

Having lived in the West Village of NYC for nearly a decade, and SF now for 2 years, I can easily say that this meal was te best food I've had since I've lived in SF and is as good as anything I can remember ever eating in some of NYC's best known an hottest restaurants. The bacon scallops dish was unreal. I'm still thinking about that dish several days later. I am so pumped they're moving into a permanent location and this will be a staple of my new hood. (Btw Greg and the rest of the crew were super nice and really seemed to care that their patrons were having a great time). Kinfolk FTW!

In an area of San Francisco with many excellent restaurant choices, this is among the very best. As it is a pop-up working out of a small space, the ambience gives them much to overcome. They manage it with aplomb. The ingredients are fresh and well chosen. The preparation is exquisite. The Brussels sprouts were the best we've ever had. The steak tender and flavorful, the desserts fabulous. One of the bonuses of the small space was the opportunity to talk to the chef/owner, Greg, when all of the dinners were prepared. He is personable, knowledgeable, and interested in his clientele. Don't hesitate to give Kinfolk a try. You will savor it as a great meal and a great bargain.

Can't wait for them to move into their planned larger venue as everyone should have an opportunity to enjoy this San Francisco gem.

We found ourselves suddenly child-less at 6pm on a Saturday night and were so pleased that we rolled the dice on this spot. Tiny yet intimate, we both thoroughly enjoyed rib-eyes and the pork belly/scallop starter. Chef came around to make sure we were happy and the host was perceptively aware of us without hovering. Yum!

IMHO, the current 4.5 star rating is - umm - a bit inflated. The FOH is very friendly, but clearly still learning the ropes. The food uniformly lacked appropriate seasoning, acid & finesse. Worse, an app clearly missing two key ingredients was passed off as "correct." The wine pours by the glass were stingy. To me, not a good way for a pop-up to begin its ascent to prime time. I generously rounded up to 3 stars even though I have no inclination to revisit Kinfolk.
