Diner Reviews
  • "This was a great dining choice before the theatre. For starters, my friend had a salad and thought it was very good. I had the roasted red pepper soup with shrimp, which was very tasty. For entrees, we both had the risotto with sausage and sun-dried tomatoes, one of the special's of the day. . .absolutely delicious. The entree had a great balance between tartness, saltiness and creaminess. Would definitely dine at 312 Chicago again. Loved the view from the second level."

  • "The waiter delivered bread which was cold and stale. When advised about the bread he looked at it, paused, then said well it's fresh, then just stood there and walked away. Table had a dirty film to it. Food was just average."

  • "My wife and I had a fantastic dinner! Our server Alli, was most helpful in explaining the menu items and even split a "hearty" portion of the risotto into 2 smaller portions so we could both enjoy the dish."

  • "I took a friend to 312 for a birthday dinner and was very impressed. I mentioned to the hostess that it was his birthday so at the end of the meal, the waiter brought a beautiful chocolate cake dessert with a candle, compliments of the restaurant. Very impressive! The food was excellent and the wait staff attentive and very competent. I will definitely be going back!"

  • "This is the third time over several years that I've given 312 Chicago a try and I won't be back. I eat out all over Chicgao and the suburbs quite frequently and though this spot is very convenient for meeting friends after work, the quality of the food just isn't up to snuff and the quality of the service was uneven. The roasted brussel sprouts seemed to have been boiled first and were mushy and flavorless. Tough lamb and mushy polenta swam in a cold, watery sauce. My guest's fish was good, but at this price point, I'll look for another spot for my $150 dinner."

  • "The best thing about our visit to 312 was its location near the theater. The food was OK - but not as good as I would have expected for the prices we paid. Two of us had the Frittata with wild mushrooms and feta cheese. It was dry with the feta dominating the other flavors. My hubby had the Calamarata Bolognese. It was passable, but bland. My daughter ordered the salmon but was brought the Caprese Panini. We didn't have time to wait for the salmon, so she ate the panini which was also just OK, but they didn't charge us for it - so that was nice. The Clam Chowder was excellent. We ordered Calamari, which very good. but found it contained shrimp and smelt which was not advertised and a problem for my daughter who is allergic to shrimp.."

  • "From the moment I walked in with my two friends, we were immediately greeted and when I gave my last name, they responded back with my first name and I felt right at home. Service fast and wait staff great. The food choices were extensive and the deserts awesome. I would highly recommend this restaurant to my friends"

  • "We were here on Saturday, March 29 at 5:00 before attending the theater (Joseph, right next door at the Cadillac Palace. We selected this restaurant because of the location. Food, service and ambiance were excellent. This is a pricey place to eat, but we knew that coming in. Recommended for before theater dining."

  • "The restaurant has a great location, comfortable ambiance and personable staff. The food however, was mediocre and disappointing. It could have been an off night therefore, we will give it another try in the future."

  • "Wonderful experience, they confirmed right away we were headed for Cadillac Palace show next door and we were able to enjoy the meal without worrying about curtain time."

  • "Food and service both were good. Would only add that when the food arrived it was not as warm as I would have liked. Makes you wonder how long it sat before we were served. Great location next to Cadillac Theatre to grab a bite before a show."

  • "This was my first visit to 312 Chicago and I really like it! The service was phenomonal and my food was very good. I had the pork shoulder sandwich as well as the person who was with me. It was tender and seasoned well. The wine was delicious as well. The feel of the restaurant was very comfortable and inviting. I would definitely go back again."

  • "We were running late because we got lost trying to find parking lot. The host and wait staff were welcoming, sympathetic, and made sure we were able to make the curtain time. We ordered the prix fixe menu and were pleased. The large grilled shrimp appetizer was perfectly done. The beet salad was perfect. The grilled salmon was the best my husband had ever had. The pork tenderloin was so juicy with just a hint of pink. Our granddaughter loved the gnocchi dish. The flourless chocolate cake was wonderful. The vanilla cheesecake was delicious. Would recommend this restaurant for any occasion. And for before the play at the Cadillac Palace Theatre, it was a perfect location."

  • "We have been to 312 before on a Sunday evening, and it was quiet and romantic. The Sunday we were there it was hopping, very busy. The wait staff took very good care of us despite the crowd, they were busting theirs butts, I give them a hand to deal with everyone that was there. The food was excellent as always, the wine list is nice, a little expensive but good, and their desserts were a delight."

  • "The food was amazing and our server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and preparation. Very attentive, I will be going again."

  • "We were a party of 6 going to see "Joseph", so wanted to eat close by! Some of us are Italian, so decided to try the cuisine. Wait staff was very cool, didn't push us to move on until we were ready. Food was good - antipasto appetizer try was excellent. We had brunch, but everyone enjoyed their choices. Overall, we had an enjoyable time, and everyone was satisfied until supper!"

  • "This is a regular part of our pre-theater routine for downtown Chicago shows. Our reservation, as always, was properly and promptly honored and our welcome both by the hostess and waiter were warm and friendly. The regular and prix-fixe menus were presented and explained, and the specials, both food and wine were described and preparation iterated. The waiter was also quick to ask if we were attending the theater so timing could be tailored to make sure we were on time for curtain. Both the three course fixed menu enjoyed by my wife and the regular menu from which I chose were excellent and both wines complemented our choices very well. It was, in short, the type of dinners we've come to anticipate and enjoy from this restaurant."

  • "Still the best spot in the loop for great fish or an awesome ahi tuna salad. They never let us down and they are always on their game for the business lunch crowd."

  • "We had dinner at 312 while visiting the city for the weekend. I had the 3 course meal with wine pairings. The watercress salad was divine. The salmon fillets was light and flakey and cooked to perfection. The flourless chocolate cake was so yummy! I was a but full so I shared it with my hubby. He loved it too. My husband had a strip steak special and he said it was wonderful. He also had a couple of gin and tonics which he said were mixed perfectly. We had a nice relaxing dinner in a romantic atmosphere. We sat next to a window looking out on LaSalle St in the evening with a light snow falling. It was a wonderful evening. Since we were staying at the hotel next door we returned to the restaurant for breakfast the next morning."

  • "dinner prior to theater was delicious. I ordered the pre fixe pork tenderloin, with a grilled shrimp appetizer. the shrimp was char grilled to perfection and the pork was served with a spicy sauce and polenta; an excellent meal. My wife had the acorn squash ravioli which was also excellent. The timing of the meal was perfect to attend the performance."

  • "We were looking to dine somewhere prior to a night at the theatre. We hadn't heard of 312 before, but we decided to take a chance. I was very impressed the service and food. They got us right in, did not rush us, and the food was extremely good. I would definitely go back again."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The food was ok but nothing to write home about, the service was nice but didn't seem to make any of his tables a priority over his 6 top, ultimately there are way better places to eat for the price."

  • "This is second time I've gone to 312 before a Sunday theatre matinee in the past several months. There are very few options in the loop or near west loop on a Sunday. 312 is a great clubby atmosphere, comfortable booths and very good service. The only dissappointment is the ltd menu for the Sunday brunch/lunch. If you don't want eggs or salad, your choices are very limited - perhaps 4-5 items. I'll continue to go b/c there are so few other options but a more robust and varied Sunday menu would likely prove well for both patron and business."

  • "This was one of the sites on the Lyric Opera web site as recommended to be within walking distance. We had matinee tickets on a Sunday and we come from Springfield, Illinois by train. Eating out is part of the whole opera experience and we were not disappointed. The service was great and the food wonderful. It was part of a perfect day."

  • "We were in town for one night, a cold, windy one. So we chose a close place for dinner. It was just right. We had a reservation and it was honored immediately. The host was gracious and friendly. The server was knowledgeable and patient. The place was warm and friendly. The food was plentiful, flavorful. We could not ask for anything more! We will go out of our way to eat here again."
