312 ChicagoExcellent restaurant before showI went to 312 with my girlfriend before attending a show at the Oriental Theater. The atmosphere was very nice, and the tables were far enough apart that everyone could have a conversation without having to worry about everyone else. Our server, Joey, recommended the Buffla appetizer which was excellent. Our dinners, the seafood Linguine and Lasagna, were both fantastic. The linguine had a lot of seafood for the price. Had a horrendous commute in. The staff was VERY nice and quite attentive, but not too much. Decided to try a dish that I ordinarily would not have tried. It was good but not great. Just think it was not for me. Asked for a glass of wine, and the waiter asked "red or white?" I answered white and he brought me a very good chardonnay (which is my favorite wine and what I would have ordered if he had asked anything other than red or white), so that was a great treat. Dessert was nice. Again, I tried something I might not have ordinarily ordered. I wouldn't rave about the food, but it was very tasty. Just not my thing, I think. That is what I feel about 312. The service is outstanding. The food and serving sizes meets is equal to the price you pay. The atmosphere is well suited for conversation as you are not bombarded with outside noise.
I've had lunches/breakfast ranging in size from 2 - 15 and I have never had a bad experience.

I wanted to order more wine to go with the second course, and then maybe a drink to go with dessert. But instead my glass was empty for over 35 minutes, during which time my tap water was also empty for 10 minutes before being refilled.
The food itself was excellent and timely, and it was still a great meal. My wife and I understand that larger parties typically receive more attention than couples. We arrived early and received our table, actually our favorite table, promptly and without a concern. The prix-fixe three course menu has been a wonderful addition to the atmosphere and this time my wife chose it and I used the regular menu, just the opposite of our last visit. We were surprised by the delivery of an amuse-bouche, a chef's small plate for each of us, with tomato and buffalo mozzarella cheese, wrapped with proscutto, warmed and served with aged balsamic, an antipasti we vowed to order when next we dine there. Service was pleasant and well-timed. We were early due to light traffic, but were welcomed and shown to our "regular" table without hesitation. We noted the "prix fixe" and pre-theater menu had been considerably broadened to allow choice of three appetizers, three main courses and three desserts and at a most reasonable price in addition to the regular menu and as always, with a very nice selection of wines by the glass in addition to those by the bottle. Service was nicely paced and waitstaff were diligent but not bothersome. While we did have a table of young women nearby who were quite noisy this time, we've found that to be the exception rather than the rule. It was so wonderfully convenient to be able to just walk down the corridor and have a lovely, relaxing time! Our waiter was very attentive and the brunch menu had a number of items that were unusual and appealing. The bacon, chedder omelet with white bean ragu was delicious, as was the short rib hash and brioche French toast.
