  • Dessert after play at the Cadillac Palace Theatre

We came here after seeing an evening performance of Annie for dessert to meet up with some relatives who were also at the play but unable to get into the city for dinner beforehand. The waiter was very friendly and didn't seem bothered that we showed up shortly before they were set to close. He even told us that they would do a sundae with chocolate chip cookies for a few of our girls when nothing on the dessert menu jumped out at them.

We were so late for our reservation due to traffic and we had tickets to a play so we were presses for time. Our waitress promised she would get us out in time. I am a vegan and they actually had a vegan soup as a special that night - potato leek soup. It was outstanding. They also made me a risotto with veggies that was delicious. We were seated by the open kitchen so it was a very busy table. I loved watching the kitchen staff work. Tina, the manager, came by to apologize for our table. We were not complaining. She complimented us a round of drinks which she didn't have to do. When we left the play my hubbie had a voicemail from 312 asking if we were missing a glove. They had it waiting at the desk for us. Nice people, great service, great food.

Ambience was great. With the theater next door it has an early crowd, but after 7:30ish it was quiet and very pleasant. We thought our food was overly salty, but have had many lunches here that were just fine. Maybe us, maybe a one time occurrence.

The food has dramatically improved over the past several years. Before it was average at best and now it's great for fine dinning. The menu variations and wine line are superb. From a service stand point, we always try to get Joey as our waiter. Without a doubt, he is the absolute best. When it comes to knowing the product, and suggesting an offering after understanding the customer's preferences, he can tailor an offering that's perfect for the savoring. The manager often floats from table to table genuinely concerned about all aspects of our dinning with serious questions, not just the obligatory "hey, how are you?" And of course the location is ideal for the theater crowd. So you can get in and out or, if you are not going to the theater, you can enjoy a relaxing evening.

We had tons of food - scallops, pork loin, beet salad, polenta, lavender gelato, sea bass, carrot cake. It was all delicious tasting! Our server seemed to have too many tables, but service did not fall between the cracks because of this. The front of the house manager stepped in and served us, and the chef runs most plates out himself. The attention to detail is definitely there - each plate was perfect.

We came to 312 Chicago for a business dinner with a few members of my team. It was great. Our server was extremely helpful with interesting wine suggestions and options for customizing items on the menu. The service overall was fantastic -- I never felt like anyone was "hovering" over us but at the same time, our water glasses were always full and plates and silverware were always removed/replaced quickly without disturbing the conversation at the table. I'd definitely go back!

I googled places near The Cadillac Theatre and '312 Chicago' was one of many but one of few with 4 Stars. I was sceptical because in my frame of mind, this was just another dull and common place close by the Theatre with a boring menu. The menu is actually very nice though not so 'artistic' (and very understandable considering the potential clientele). They have a super Salad selection. I had the Salmon with vegetables as my entree and it was very good---I just couldn't quite finish. Our service was very nice and efficient. Our Server was a little abrupt but seemed like her genuine, natural personality so it was okay. The one thing I noticed right away and would change---turn the lights a little lower! However, a very nice experience!

The waiter kept us waiting for at least 10 minutes before taking our order. The salt and pepper shakers did not function properly and we tried to get the attention of our waiter. He eventually assisted us. The salads were great but the entrees were not extraordinary. The bread was excellent. The waiter should have checked on us more often. He seemed too busy to attend to us and we waited too long to order. Overall, good but not extraordinary. The server was polite but he was not quick enough. It is a turn off to wait more than 10 minutes to place your order. Because of the service I would not return again.

Came here with my boss for dinner while in Chicago for training. While seeing Gnocchi on the open-table listing photos is what sold me on making a reservation, I was disappointed to not see it on the menu upon arrival. We both went with the prefixe menu option as it was a good value for three courses. My starter was grilled scallops with oyster mushrooms, which were perfectly cooked and very delicious. Main course was pork tenderloin, while cooked to a perfect medium was a tad over seasoned, although that could have come from the proscuitto. The fried potato patty topped with steamed spinach was lacking imagination. Dessert was a pumpkin cheesecake garnished with white chocolate and candied pecans, all of which was promptly devoured.

My son and his roommate met me for dinner (they are University of Chicago football players) I thought I was picking a restaurant they had not been to, but my son had. In any event, the dinner was great. It got off to a slow start as the server seemed stretched too thin, but they soon deployed more staff and everything was great. Great wine list. Food was awesome.

we visit Chicago once a year and have made the restaurant rounds more than once. Our favorite french bistro closed a few years ago so we decided to check out 312, and we are glad we did. My steak was out of this world, with truffle butter adding perfect flavor and a wonderful melange of mushrooms. My wife had the pumpkin ravioli which was also wonderful. Located just next to the theatre, it is the perfect place for a special meal or a pre event dining experience.

The restaurant was very accommodating when we requested to share both salad and entree which they split in the kitchen for us. The food was good, service good even though the restaurant was extremely busy. My only complaint is the location of our table which was squeezed in near the kitchen and the coat rack with a lot of hustle and bustle. My suggestion would be to eliminate that table altogether or at least put a room divider separating the coat rack from the table.

Our waiter was great-paced everything perfectly so we had plenty of time to walk to the theater. He gave excellent recommendations for appetizer, entrée and wine. He didn't skew toward the highest priced items either. My friend had the fish special and I had tortelloni. Both excellent. In addition to theater goers, also noted a couple families with younger kids. Only detraction was the "tatted" guy in a sleeveless undershirt parked there for most of our meal--BTW the bar is really poorly situated and obstructs access to the door and seating. Hey, not usually uptight on dress code, but he looked like he missed the turn for Al's Beef.

Our party of 5 had a table that was located uncomfortably close to the path to the kitchen. This restaurant does not seem to be set up well for groups larger than 4. One of the guests has a gluten allergy but was accommodated by the sous chef who suggested several options to make the meal gluten-free. The pasta and scallop dish was great, while the pork tenderloin was slightly too salty/sagey. Overall it was a good experience.

I ate at 312 Chicago with 2 others the night before running the Chicago Marathon. I was impressed with the experience all around. We were seated and after determining that we were visiting for the race, our waiter gave us the standard menu as well as a pre-fixe menu that the chef had built specifically for runners. There were flavorful, satisfying pasta options for the carbo-loaders, a couple of healthier dessert options, and a list of mocktails (I ordered the Runner's Edge - excellent in its pure form, AND with added gin). I was really pleased at the restaurant's attention to what was going on in town and surprised that they had gone to such lengths to cater to visiting runners. The food was unbelievable - I'd come back in a heartbeat.

If you are looking for a sophisticated atmosphere with a notable wine list but average (think Maggianos) food you have found your place. The pricing was above that which was suggested by the quality of the food. You are paying for the location (near Theater district and City hall). Tourists beware, Chicago has much more to offer. Please understand your dinner here will be fine, but there are many other options.

Our group of 6 dined on the eve of Chicago Gourmet weekend with high anticipation of an exciting flavorful meal. Our dinner was good and well serviced by the wait staff but simply not spectacular. As we all order our own plates but share tastes around the table, the chicken dish and the pike were the least flavorful and really should have been kicked-up a notch as these dishes have such a clean palette from which to start embellishing. The lack of a huge crowd on a Saturday night in downtown Chicago should have been a tip off, but we'd already made the reservation and were committed with our group.
