300 EastCannot go wrong with 300 eastWe have been to 300 east on several occasions for lunch and dinner and the food is very good and inventive. I have had the black eyed pea Falfafel and the Fargo and kale. Both were delicious. My husband had crab cakes which he equally enjoyed. Nice ambience in an old house in Dilworth and the chef will go out of her way to please. They also have a good wine and beer selection. The service could be nore consistent. We ate lunch at a very busy time and the service was great and then came for an early dinner and the service was fair, but otherwise we will be back!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for a birthday dinner!!I had 13 people for a birthday dinner and we ate upstairs. We had gotten a little lost on the way to the restaurant, so I called to let them know we were running a few minutes late and if we could push the reservation to 8:15 (originally at 8:00). Hostess was very rude and said she would only hold the table for 10 minutes. I understand restaurant policy very well as my family is in the restaurant industry. Bottom line - she could have been more understanding and polite.
Our server was AWESOME and incredibly attentive so he made up for the bad taste in our mouths.

First, we were upstairs, and the waitstaff seemed to have a good deal of difficulty closing the blinds at the top of the staircase to keep the bright sunlight from streaming into my wife's eyes. They fiddled with it for a while, and eventually the sun was low enough so that it stopped being a problem, but they never seemed able to fix it on their own. Second, the restaurant was committed to cramming as many people as possible into the upstairs. We shared two appetizers, the goat cheese with roasted garlic & sundried tomato, delicious and the ravioli stuffed with butternut squash in a cream sauce, excellent. Two of the entrée's were specials, the halibut was excellent, the pork dishes were good, but nothing special, the faro and kale dish was excellent. Our waiter was attentive, but not in the way letting us finish our appetizers and entrée's and not clearing away dishes too soon so we didn't feel rushed while keeping our wine glasses full. The food is consistently good and the wait staff comfortably attentive. If we have one criticism, it is the noise level... energetic is a euphemism for 'too noisy." A couple can ask for one of the tiny booths and converse. If you come with your own large party, you are the noise makers. If your party is anywhere in between, normal conversation is difficult. We had the filet: stuffed with Gorgonzola, wrapped in bacon and topped with a blob of herbed garlic butter, it was DIVINE. The place was packed but quiet and the service was warm and professional but non-intrusive. We sat at the front window looking out onto East Blvd. with the old homes in the foreground and the skyline farther on. An overall marvelous experience. I highly recommend you get the butternut squash ravioli as an appetizer. It is amazing. I have not had an entree there that I do not like yet. Everything is delicious and fresh, right down to the homemade desserts. Every server I have had has been extremely friendly and attentive. Just a great overall experience.
