Diner Reviews
  • "We wanted to love our night out at 29 Sudbury, unfortunately it wasn't the experience we were hoping for. It's a nice looking restaurant upstairs and down with two great bars. The food was great but the service was disappointing. Our waitress was a young girl who had to keep coming back to ask us what we ordered. She brought me a glass of white wine when I ordered a Cabernet. For the amount of money this place charges I would expect the servers to be older and more professional. Finally someone called me earlier in the day to confirm the reservation and asked if there was a special occasion. When I mentioned my husband's birthday they informed me they would bring a piece a cake. The cake never showed and was never mentioned."

  • "29 Sudbury has potential, but service issues will kill this restaurant. I live only five minutes away, but held off trying it because it had already earned a reputation for lousy service. The reputation is deserved. The food is good, and was delivered timely. We never saw our waiter again until we had to track him down to get the check. By then we were so aggravated that there was no chance of coffee or dessert. We saw him glance over a couple of times, but he made no effort to check on us. The food is also wildly overpriced, which might be more palatable if the service was better. If I'm going to pay those prices in Sudbury, I'm going to go to Bullfinch's, where the food AND the service are always excellent."

  • "We had visited 29 Sudbury in early September 2013 and enjoyed ourselves. We had opportunity to go back this past weekend and had a fantastic time. The food was fresh and delicious. The staff was helpful. The place was buzzing. Feels like 29 Sudbury has hit their stride. We will be back!"

  • "We went to Sudbury 29 last Friday night because we live nearby and figured we should know what it offers. We were disappointed. Seated upstairs, in a rather charmless room, where oddly the tables are too far apart, the drop ceiling, nondescript artwork added to the sense that there was nothing but the food to enjoy at this restaurant. And while the food was good, I'd say each item was a bit over priced. I had salmon, with sautéed spinach and beet puree for about $25 and it could easily be a dish for less at many local restaurants. Maybe, just maybe we would go back for a drink and an appetizer sometime as the bar looked like the most inviting part of the place."

  • "We had another terrific meal. The striped bass was excellent. It wasn't inexpensive, but absolutely worth it. Our only issue was with the linguine with asparagus entree–just the stalks were used. What happened to the top parts of the asparagus?!"

  • "We have been to 29 Sudbury several times -- the food is always outstanding, the service very attentive and friendly, and, even though it is a little pricey, a much needed addition to the Sudbury restaurant scene."

  • "We had been to 29 Sudbury a couple of weeks after it opened and had a lousy experience- food was not good, especially at those prices, service was terrible, we were seated downstairs so literally could not have a conversation, etc. We decided to wait a while and try again, and it was definitely the right decision. The prices haven't changed but everything else has. The food was terrific, definitely equivalent to a top restaurant in Boston and the service was exceptional. We had a fantastic dinner, were seated upstairs so it was quiet enough to talk, and will definitely become regulars."

  • "Had heard good things about 29 Sudbury and looking forward to our first visit. It was disappointed across the board. The restaurant was busy on a Friday night but the decor and ambiance was lacking and I did not appreciate the sports TV screens in the upstairs dinning room. We had a very long wait for our entrees with no word or visit from our server during the long wait. When the food arrived, it was pretty mediocre. The pizza had a nice crispy thin crust but otherwise was nothing special. I did not taste the salmon dish of my dining partner but she said it was pretty bland despite the pretty presentation."

  • "I have been here a few times for lunch, pizza and salad and I feel that this is where the restaurant is most successful. As a resident of the town I couldn't wait for this restaurant to open however out of the dozen times I have been here I feel that the service rarely lives up to the expectations of what a fine dining restaurant emanates. I hope to see this restaurant succeed but for now I will stick to visiting it for lunch as their pizza and salads are delicious!"

  • "I did not like it. The price was high f or what I paid. It was not special. I took my wife for our anniversary. I do not know if they are getting a second chance from me."

  • "Matt couldn't have been more accommodating for a surprise dinner we planned for a friend. He made it very special choosing a perfect spot and allowing us to bring in balloon and a cake. Thank you 29 Sudbury!!"

  • "There were 10 of us and the experience could not have been better. We were seated in the alcove area on the second floor, which is a semi-private room. The server accommodated everyone's needs, including two young children. The pacing was wonderful as we were seated for nearly 2 1/2 hours. And, the food was delicious. The lemon sole special was a big hit with most of our diners. It's wonderful that there is now a place like this in Sudbury!"

  • "Service was not attentive, the waiter never came by to ask how the food was. I ordered pork milanese, but it was overcooked and somewhat flavorless. My companion ordered the chicken, which was a half a chicken-but boneless- WHY? this made it overcooked and served over mashed potatoes with a "mushroom ragu"- of which there was barely a smidgen. This was my second time there, the first was on Valentine's Day and the food was great - we did return expecting the same. Not sure if I would recommend to anyone."

  • "We had a god experience good food. Great waiter. Mike. Our only comment would be very expensive for the decor. Not a place for a special dinner. Cement floor and no table cloths. Many diners in jeans. Cold atmosphere for the high prices"

  • "Although I'm not from Sudbury, the 40 minute drive from my home in Wilmington, MA was worth the trip. My wife and I saw the Phantom Gourmet "review" of this new restaurant, and I was intrigued by the menu items that the show talked about with the owner, Greg Hill. When I saw the rigatoni bolognese and the roasted chicken breast selections highlighted on the show, I knew my wife and I had to go to 29 and try them both. We were not disappointed at all; they were both fantastic!! From the soup of the day, through the main courses, right up to the fantastic desserts we had, spending our night @ 29 was well worth the time and drive. I'm just a bit jealous of Sudbury residents and what 29 offers them for a dining destination...it is a great place"

  • "we went with a party of 10 - seated immediately with our reservation even though our entire party was not there and some were running late. Excellent server, Steven - was attentive and knowledgeable about both the menu and wine list - all 10 in the party loved their apps, salads and entrees. Would highly recommend."

  • "Everyone agreed that their meals were excellent. We were disappointed in the decor and ambiance. Would we return? Hard to say. I'd probably seek out a prettier, more welcoming decor in which to spend the evening."

  • "I didn't complain but probably won't go back. Ribeye just ok. Muscles delicious. Skip the desserts. Tried the apple pie, left it and ate the just ok ice cream. The flourless choc not worth a second bite. Recomendation - sit at the bar and order appetizers."

  • "Second floor lunch should not be served Very poor service Food arrived over several minutes after an hour two by two as staff has to carry it up stairs Lots of apologies but no compensation Some food not, some cold Lunch salad bowl very awkward to cut in when ordering chicken for example Dinner downstairs much better. Dinner plates huge making entree like small and in fact ok serving No extras Served one piece of bread and never offered more Great sangria and bar looks nice"

  • "The restaurant has 2 floors, first floor has a large u-shaped bar and tables near an open air kitchen, the concrete floors give it an industrial loft vibe. The upstairs has a smaller bar, but more seating for dinner. The ambience upstairs is cozier with wood floors and high backed booths along the wall. The service was attentive without being overdone. The food was well presented and tasty, although a bit pricey (the filet mignon special was $45). The glass of pinot noir I got tasted like vinegar (I have never had that happen before) the waiter brought me a second glass from a newly opened bottle, which tasted good. Even with the wine incident and the relatively high prices, I would go back again."

  • "We were very excited to try this Resturant but were disappointed by the experience. Our waitress didn't understand the menu, forgot to bring us ordered items and made information up about the food. The menu was interesting, but the food took too long to come and seemed like it had spent some time under the warmer before it made its way to us. Our bill for a party of six was over $400... Two drinks each, two apps for the table, and an meal each; Seemed a bit over priced. Next time we want a night out we will try a different Resturant."

  • "This restaurant is ok but it seems like a place that hasn't figured out what kind of clientele it wants to cater to since it's trying to please not only kids and families but more sophisticated diners as well. The food was good, the service was very good. If you enter from the door by the bar, you'll be confused because the hostess is around the other end of the building and it's not clear exactly where that is."

  • "Have been to 29 Sudbury 4-5 times, this was very disapponting visit. Disintersted service from start to finish from Timothy; my wife ordered the $45 beef tenderloin special; it had a distinct salmon taste (perhaps cooked on same grill) that 3 of us at table noticed. Mentioned it to waiter Timothy, indifferent response, didnt offer to replace or make it right, hostess/manager never came by. My wife called next day and spoke to manager who said he would look into it and call us back - never did. $45 for tenderloin is Capital Grille pricing which this certainly wasnt and to have no follow up/concern from anyone at the restautant is very disappointing/annoying. I guess just go for drinks and pizza."

  • "29 Sudbury has an excellent menu. The food quality is top notch. Service was very good. My only critical comment was on the decor. For my tastes it was spartan and seemed like dining in a warehouse...I don't mind that if the for is great and it was....I'll dine there again"

  • "Food was to die for and the price were reasonable and well worth it!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The food was just whatever for the price. Three of the 6 dishes were pasta (like spaghetti & sauce) and one person had one glass of wine & the bill was close to $300.00. The waiter looked like he had no clue on our request & brought 2 spaghetti a instead of rigatoni & then got us one ice cream instead of two - these were both for kids, so it was not worth saying anything. The restaurant's decor is cool but still seems to be missing something so it's not cold looking/feeling."

  • "We had a great experience valentines day. Little slow to sit as they only had one hostess at the start but we had an excellent female waitress upstairs who made up for it. The had a gentleman playing acoustic music which was romantic and the food was excellent. We had wine, beet salad, salmon, pork milanese. All were excellent. Food came out steadily. There was so significant wait for food. Although they were clearly booked for the night i was surprised at how well the restaurant was run. We are big fans of this restaurant. One turn off could be downstairs decor, but request upstairs and you will see it has a trendy feel. Definitely younger crowd than bullfinchs and food is less hearty, more delicate in appearance."

  • "this was our second visit. food was very good as before. we were seated in the dining room downstairs near the open kitchen. the atmosphere in this dining room is not as nice, next time i'll be sure to request a table in the upstairs dining room. good place for dinner with friends"

  • "We had a wonderful server! The food was very good. There was a strange smell that hit you as soon as you walked in. Then there was the banging....constant we were told they were making Porchetta's for the night's dinner. Really unnerving!! Not sure I would rush back."

  • "Sign is not visible. There is no recognizing for a restaurant on this building, also they are no indication for parking in the back. Howerver, the inside restaurant is perfect, and the the foods and apple martini were perfect."

  • "We made open table reservations and were seated immediately upon arrival! Our waiter was amazing!! Very friendly, attentive and informative! Our meals were fantastic!! Can not wait to go back!! Next time, we'll bring more people so they can experience what we did!!!"

  • "My reservation was for 8:15. We gave back our buzzer at 8:50 after waiting for a significant amount of time over our reservation time. The general manager spoke with us and in an attempt to keep us from walking out, offered appetizers on the house. We stayed as it was late and we didn't have a fall back plan anyways - we were unfamiliar with the area, as we drove 40 minutes to try this restaurant. We were not the only reservation that this happened to that night, as we could hear others around us. The appetizers were great - very good and different from the typical apps you see at restaurants."

  • "This was our first experience with 29 Sudbury. It was really noisy. The service was terrible. My dish was only slightly warm and had no flavor. It was Boston prices, but no where close to Boston quality. I would never recommend it, nor will I go back."
