This eclectic bistro has it all; great ambiance, fantastic food, an extensive wine list. The menu can best be described as extraordinary casual farm to table cuisine, where Chef Scott Schwartz paints a playground for the palette using the freshest ingredients sourced from local fisherman, farms and our own onsite garden.
Three time winner of the "Best of Jacksonville" 29 South was recently awarded a "Snail of Approval" and "Spirit of Slow Food" by Slow Food USA.

  • "We couldn't get a reservation at the time we preferred and took an earlier one. I felt rushed. I felt like a tourist that was just a "one time check" rather than a local enjoying my favorite restaurant. That was disappointing because we were celebrating my daughter's last night on the island with us before returning back to school. The food was fabulous as always. It just felt more like a chain restaurant experience than a relaxing dinner."

  • "While in the area last year, we chose this restaurant based on the appearance and the herb/vegetable garden on the property. We went back this year because we enjoyed the food so much last year. We have had salads, fish entrees and desserts here. All were extraordinary. I eat in Charleston, SC restaurants regularly and am fairly hard to impress."

  • "My husband and I had eaten lunch at 29 South Eats shortly after it first opened and we were impressed with the creativity of the menu and the care of preparation and flavors of the food. It seems to have evolved into a mediocre place to eat with a predictable menu and prices not reflecting value. We will not return unless something changes to make the restaurant worth going to."

After reading the reviews of 29 South as well as their menu which has a focus on farm to table we knew this was the place to try. We were not disappointed at all. Food was fresh and delicious, and our server was great as well. We will be back!"

  • "Our experience at 29 South Eats was underwhelming, this is being kind. The restaurant is located in a very nice historic section, however the resturant itself is rather small, making it loud and cramped. I had the shrimp and grits, which were quite good, my partner had the pork chop, dry as whit leather. Upon tell the hostess that it was indee subpar she replied, "oh I'm sorry" and that was that. No offer of anything other than the, "I'm sorry". The wait staff that we had was nice enough, I wouldn't dare go as far as "friendly" she was dry and to the point. We tried several reaturants while in Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach. I'd suggest picking another one than this and get what you pay for. At $25.00 plus a head, there are far better."

  • "Well first of all overall we liked our food. Husband had hambuger - he loved it. I had bbq salad. Way way way too much sauce and no deviled eggs only boiled eggs. I would get again but put sauce on side. But the fried green tomatoes were some of the best ever. Wine list was frustrating At least 4 of our selections were no longer carried. It was comical. Finally we just said bring us a red! The dessert donut bread pudding is outstanding - a must have. Don't get mac and cheese pretty much velveta cheese and macaroni noodles - nasty. Chef needs a new recipe"

  • "Our party of 5 thoroughly enjoyed our late night dessert stop at 29 South. We came very close to closing time but the staff (Demetri I believe) welcomed us and took our orders without hesitation. We were transported to a quaint, little place. It felt like we were in SoHo in a little neighborhood spot. The atmosphere was perfect and delightful. All of our desserts were excellent. The Krispy Kreme bread pudding presentation was very cute. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in town. Great experience"

  • "We made our review through Open table for 6:30 pm on a Sunday evening. We wanted to sit inside since it was 90 degrees and very humid outside. There were multiple tables open inside the restaurant. However, the gentleman who seated us told us that we had to either sit outside or at a table right by the front door. He told us that when we make reservations through Open Table, their reservation system at the restaurant only reserves tables outside. We decided we did not want to sit three feet from the front door so we left. Open Table needs to work with the restaurant to fix this problem."

  • "We had 6 energetic people, great wine and wonderful meals. The "upscale southern food" menu was once again wonderful. I only said very good because I didn't order my usual scallops and wished I had, even though the fish was wonderful. We finished the evening with the "doughnuts and coffee" desert and weren't disappointed. This is my favorite restaurant."

  • "The restaurant had a great concept, a farmers table. However, the food did not live to the expectations one would have of a restaurant with so many accolades. The fish tacos were dry. The sopressata appetizer was too fattening and the mozzarella which complimented the sopressata was a fraction of the bruschetta. I think the restaurant needs updates too, such as table cloths on tables outside, as the food falls right on the floor. "

  • "Ate outside. The tables were dirty and it was like the table was on a rocking chair. Ordered the cheese and salami plate- three very small scraps of delicious cheese and one slice of salami. Pork chop was good but the balance of the event took away from the dining experience. Needed more server and kitchen help, along with someone to clean the tables and floor - and, it would be a good idea to hide the rodent traps- my wife kicked one under her feet during desert - what a way to finish a meal!"

  • "While the service was great, the outside seating very nice in the late spring, the food just wasn’t quite in line with other reviews. Not sure if it was a matter of the kitchen being busy but everything tasted a bit over seasoned but not in a way to compliment the dish. Ordered the Lobster Spring Rolls – this could be so much better but was rubbery. Pulled Pork Spring Rolls were just mixing something to elevate them above being greasy and lacking flavor. So close, just need to add some more finesse. And need to clean outside - rather scruffy."
