Diner Reviews
  • "This is by far our favourite restaurant in telluride. just as expensive as the other ones but at least it delivers on food design, flavor and authenticity of the dishes."

  • "By far the best meal we had in Telluride this year. The restaurant was busy, but the service was good and our entres were awesome. Especially enjoyed the elk dish."

  • "221 was recommended to me and my wife by a local What a fantastic meal. The place is owned and run by a former top Chef contestant The restaurant does modern American and farm to table. The crowd we had was amazing and very pumpkin butterscotch Pie should not be missed"

  • "My wife and I came here because of the unique items on the menu. Restaurant was fairly loud, had to talk loud to hear each other across the small table. The bench/seat and table heights were not a great match (uncomfortable to eat and felt like we had to hunch over the table). Menu has huge potential, but we were unimpressed with most of the items. We ordered: Buttermilk Fried Quail - Lacked the wow factor in the flavor dept. Sausage Platter - The sausages seemed tough and over cooked Roasted Root Vegetable and Watercress Salad - Barely any roasted vegetables Elk Entree - The Elk redeemed the rest of the meal. It was cooked perfect and was amazing, the vegetables that accompanied it, were not up to par with the rest of the meal."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dinner. After overcoming several reservations ahead of us that came with more people than their reservation called for.. Which were seated ! ( granted we turned down a table in the front room . which I think would have been the best place ) There by ,we waited for a good while to be seated. Still the same , the wait staff was excellent . Great menu , a house specialty is Lamb heart was excellent . You Have to try it ! Don't hesitate to dine at the bar with Nick :) Bottom line , if we are back in Telluride , we will eating at 221 at least twice ."

  • "The best of the "upscale" meals we had in telluride; consistently good"

  • "My wife and I had a fantastic dining experience. We both had a the trout which was perfectly cooked, fresh and firm. As I rule I don't order seafood when there isn't an ocean within 1000 miles, but the calamari was some of the best I have ever had (and I have had a lot!). Fresh, lightly battered and served with a wonderful dipping sauce. We both took a bite of the beet tortellini (yes, "beet" not "beef") and at the same time both said "that is one of the best things I have ever tasted." Fantastic evening. Always a treat when the chef's passion comes out in the food. I could eat an entire meal of the beet tortellini. Looking forward to returning."

  • "Went for the first time for a date night while on vacation in Telluride. Really great selection of food - the homemade sausage is delicious. I would also recommend the Elk - really well done. The wine menu wasn't as extensive as I expected, but still had some good pairings. Neat little atmosphere in a Telluride house and the service was good. Would definitely recommend for others to try."

  • "We voted this restaurant as the best we dined at on our trip. Because they could not seat us at the time of our reservation, they bought us each a glass of the wine of our choice -- which was especially nice as we were seated only 10 minutes late! From there, things only got better. Terrific experience!"

  • "We have been coming to this restaurant for a number of years, and have always had good food and good service. This time the service was terrible, which started by ignoring us for at least 10 minutes after we were seated. The service continued to be horrible. We will come back for the food, and hope that the service improves."

  • "221 South Oak has been delivering great food and spirits with a very friendly and attentive staff for years. We come to Telluride twice a year and always make it a point to eat at 221!"

  • "Only complaint was that the bottle of wine I ordered didn't arrive until the main course. The waitress offered to comp a dessert, but ultimately that did not happen."
    Dined on 1/3/2014
  • "Overall this place was a bit of a letdown as the food was just average and when we arrived we were informed that many menu items were no longer available. The food itself ranged from my soup, which was quite good, to my protein (elk) which was nothing special / okay, to the asparagus which was served with my elk, which looked and tasted either steamed sans seasoning or canned. Asparagus is so easy to make delicious and it was simply a complete miss here. The service was average at best, leading to my 2-star "fair" rating."
