  • "A cute little home with beautiful artwork. The food is good especially if you are seeking an eclectic menu. My husband had the Elk ribeye and I had the Bison strip steak. Both very good but the disappointing part was it is served sliced. I guess we were expecting a full steak like you usually get in a steakhouse. My mom had the mussels which were an appetizer and they were filling enough for her. They also had delicious bread."

  • "We go to 221 S. Oak every time we're in Telluride. Pricey, but very well prepared food and delicious every time. Nice ambiance and romantic setting in and old house. Not a place to bring kids in my opinion, and we've never seen any there. We never have coffee after a meal, but felt like it and specifically asked the waitress if they had de-caf. She said "Oh sure." We ask for a couple cups and it was very good coffee. Problem was, we couldn't sleep that night until near day break. We normally sleep very well no matter where we are. We were clearly, intentionally served regular coffee. This was a down side that can sour a very good place no matter how good the experience was."

  • " I can't say enough about Ken's top-notch service; he recommended a superb, yet reasonably-priced Cotes du Rhone that went well with both meals: the stout-marinated Bison New York Strip with yams w/huckleberry sauce and green beans was out of this world. It was tender, and superbly tasty - all the tastes melded together quite well. My wife's mushroom-encrusted filet was good, but the cold vegetable slaw that went with it just didn't work that well. My wife had an appetizer of crab/shrimp fritters that was exquisite, as was my soup duo of butternut squash/corn bisque. They do not open until 5:30--we would recommend Tuesday nights as they sometimes run a buy two certain entrees, get the cheaper one free--- what a deal!"

  • "Two years ago we visited for our anniversary. A return anniversary trip merited a return to 221. Same location, essentially the same menu, but still as fresh a gem as you can get. And the Squash Blossoms from the local farmers market! It just couldn't have been better. The trout was delicate, the pork loin succulent. So the return trip was as exciting as the first visit."

We arrived much earlier than our original reservation was set for and with one less person due to an unforeseen occurrence and we were seated immediately.   • "Run don't walk to 221 South Oak Bistro! This little gem of an eatery in downtown Telluride will stun you. Hand crafted cocktails(my favorite is the Gosling rum mojitos) are for starters. My menu-Buttermilk fried quail appetizer, Smoked romaine salad with a strip of bacon placed across the top coated with various spices including Cumin, Elk loin with a rich but light berry sauce and a hot soft chocolate center cake with two dollops of homemade ice cream! Don't overlook the interesting and balanced wine list from which I selected an 07 Tempranillo. High marks in a cozy and cool atmosphere. BRAVO!"

  • "Had looked forward to dining here all week for dinner. We were accommodated 15 mins prior to our reservation time so perhaps the poor service can in some way be attributed to that. The small cottage is cute however the service was so lacking and the overal experience so poorly managed that we would not be back nor would I reccomend this restaurant. The food was ok although despite giving very explicit directions for lamb chops (well done, no blood) the first order had to be redone. Unfortuntaly, everyone else had finished their dinner by the time mine was refired and although it came back out perfectly cooked, it lacked the side sauce etc. Dining experience needs better overall management of food quality and service."

The ingredients are alway fresh and delicious. The stuffed squash blossoms were flavorful, fresh, and tasty! The creative use of ingredients is always a surprise and the selections are refreshing. The chef prepares a Lovely fried green tomato dish that is reminiscent of her southern heritage and wonderful to taste! I should mention that I have dined there with friends with serious food allergies. The kitchen has always gone out of its way to make sauces that suited the meal and met the customer's needs. I always enjoy 221!"

  • "It's a shame that this lovely restaurant is so disorganized. I have been to 221 many times over the summer,both for brunch and dinner. Their 2 for 1 special on Tuesday nights isn't a true 2 for 1 as the entrees you may choose from are very limited. They never vary from week to week so if you go on consecutive Tuesdays,menu selections can get quite boring. The hostess has no idea what she's doing. She takes 20 minutes to seat one table so if you have a reservation,your table is never ready on time. Don't expect to sit outside even if you reserve it well in advance;the hostess ignores your request and will seat people ahead of you (without a reservation) outside first. When it's your turn...surprise.....there are no tables left outside."

Ingredients are locally sourced, fresh, and well presented. I had Bison with huckleberry reduction, mashed yams, and string beans. Bison was so tender and perfectly cooked. My wife chose the soup de jour which was a swirl of two house prepared purée soups and arugula / fresh beet salad plus several stolen pieces of my Bison. Highly recommend this restaurant and be sure to make reservations so as not to be disappointed."

  • "I recently took a date to 221 South Oak Bistro and we both had a fantastic time and meal. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was nice and romantic without being overly formal. I had the seared ahi and she had the trout, and we were both extremely happy with our food. We ended up splitting both of them because they were so good. We also had the calamari for an appetizer and the molten chocolate cake for dessert, which were great. Our only regret is that we didn't eat lunch earlier so that we had room for more. It was absolutely worth the price, and I hope to go back next time I visit Telluride."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal at 221 S. Oak Bistro. We chose the patio, and enjoyed a great table with a SE view of the canyon wall. Our waiter was very attentive and moved us along at just the right pace. Try the "coolcumber" cocktail for something really different and refreshing. The heirloom salad was superb, and was accompanied by a delicate asparagus puree. I ordered the local striped bass for my entree; it was cooked perfectly and complimented by just the right amount of a terrific broth. My wife ordered and loved the off-menu Colorado lamb t-bones. She thinks she's having the left-overs tomorrow for breakfast, but I have a feeling a crime will occur overnight and the lamb will be missing in the morning. :-)"
