  • "We really enjoyed our meal at 221 S. Oak Bistro. We chose the patio, and enjoyed a great table with a SE view of the canyon wall. Our waiter was very attentive and moved us along at just the right pace. Try the "coolcumber" cocktail for something really different and refreshing. The heirloom salad was superb, and was accompanied by a delicate asparagus puree. I ordered the local striped bass for my entree; it was cooked perfectly and complimented by just the right amount of a terrific broth. My wife ordered and loved the off-menu Colorado lamb t-bones. She thinks she's having the left-overs tomorrow for breakfast, but I have a feeling a crime will occur overnight and the lamb will be missing in the morning. :-)"

We started off rocky as our server was not very polished and was quick to pass wine questions to superiors. However, the food more than made up for his shortcomings. We ordered elk at the New Sheridan Chophouse the following night, it was excellent. I will say the desert at 221 South Oak was very good, the outdoor seating was nice, but that's it."

  • "Brunch at 221 South Oak Bistro is a necessity whenever we are in Telluride, but there were so many service missteps this time, we might not go back. The servers acted like it was an inconvenience that we were even there. Took ten minutes before we were even offered a beverage. And we ordered a squash blossom appetizer that was never even delivered. When our entrees were brought to the table and we asked about our app, our server said "I didn't hear you - you still want it?" We quickly ate and opted for dessert and coffee/more mimosas at New Sheraton. My family and I have always enjoyed 221 and I'm very sad about this change in the restaurant. The food is still great, but the service is terrible."

The wine is not cheap, but it was commensurate with the quality of the food and the awesome mountain views from the back patio. The hostess/sommelier (Alicia) was supercool to squeeze us in at the last minute without an advance reservation. We sat outside on the patio, but the artwork in the indoor dining room was also really interesting."

  • "We decided to eat here based on numerous very good reviews. What we experienced was disappointing at best. My wife and I dine out frequently and often share a salad. We asked our server if their salads were big enough to share. He said they were quite small and no. We both ordered salads based on this. When the salads arrived, we found that they were huge. At $12/salad we weren't too happy. The second issue was when I asked to substitute a vegetable for the quinoa my meal came with. He told me he didn't think it was possible, but "would check". When my meal arrived, I had the quinoa as the menu stated. Our server made no mention of the denied request for a vegetable. Led me to believe he didn't really check. Won't go there again."

  • "It can be a challenge finding delicious vegan meals when you travel. What a joy it was to discover 221 South Oak Bistro during our recent visit to Telluride. By chance,we made reservations on "Two-fer Tuesday" and enjoyed a gourmet vegan meal at about half price. Very cool! The tofu chimi churri was delightful accompanied by arugula and sweet potatoes. For dessert there was another surprise--vegan sorbet of cantaloupe and blueberry ginger."

  • "We dined here in June 2014. Appetizer - sausages were terrific. Interesting to taste the different meats. Entrees - striped bass (great) and chicken breast (great). Dessert - pecan pie (great for two to share, enough sugar and delicious). Ambiance - pretty, soft colors, beautiful paintings. A little crowded on tables. We dined inside but the patio in back is quite lovely. Only drawback - our server wasn't really into it, perhaps having a bad day. Oh, and we dined on a Tuesday for their 2 for 1 on entrees. it's not on ALL of the entrees but is sufficient for you to have a good selection and some delicious food. With a glass of wine each, two entrees, dessert our check with tip was about $80."

  • "We went on the last day of the ski season because there wasnt much else open. We arrived early but were seated within ten minutes after grabbing some wine at the bar. Had the Bone Marrow with fried kale and spaetzle which was amazing!!! The buttermilk fried quail was tender and crispy. The second course of seafood was good but not outstanding. If we had stopped after appetizers i would have goven 5 stars. My scallops were slightly overcooked and seemed as though it may have sat for some time. Great service, energetic and appetizing!!"
