Diner Reviews
  • "Food average, and service about the same. Very bland tasting cousins for southern / creole style resturant. No one in our party was truey satisfied with their meal choice after everything we ordered was referred to by our server as "one of the best options on the menu". Definitely a first and last time dinning experience at this resturant."

  • "The dinner was delicious and in a very romantic setting. Try to sit in the front tables overlooking King Street. After dinner we went up to the Basin Street Lounge to listen to the band. The Crawstickers were awesome. It is a cigar lounge so it is smoky, but well worth it to hear this wonderful sax player and his band."

  • "I dined with family and friends for a Anniversary celebration. The ambience was beautiful and the service was good. The food left a bit to be desired. The menu was Creole but there wasn't much flavor to the various dishes tried. I think the menu hits are the crab cakes and chicken and waffles which aren't true creole dishes. Not sure If I will visit again in the near future for dinner."

  • "I had a great time at 219. Brunch was delicious! I had the french toast and my friend had the crab and brie omelet. I will definitely return."

  • "My co-workers and I went to 219 for dinner. We were seated outside under the canopy. The staff was friendly and very professional and the service was always prompt. Everyone ordered something different, and the food not only looked great, it was excellent! It was our first time at 219 and it won't be the last. "

  • "My wife and I went for brunch. When we arrived we were the only patrons in the restaurant. Our waiter took our drink order (a bottle of wine) and then food order promptly. We scarcely saw him again. The food took VERY LONG to be served and, when it arrived, was lukewarm). No one refilled our wine from the bottle. No one came to check if everything was okay or to give us an update about our food. No one offered to refill our coffee. I had to flag down a bus boy to ask for more coffee, because I hardly even saw our waiter in the dining room. By the time we left, there were other patrons (though the restaurant was, by no means, busy) and they were grumbling about the service as well."

  • "The waiter mixed up the chardonnay with the pinot grigio, then proceeded to argue that he hadn't. Our friend ordered a Stella, but the waiter returned to inform him that they were out. The waiter left to check what they did have, returning to inform us they did in fact have Stella. Our friend ordered one, only to again be informed they were out. They did not have mac & cheese as listed online, and were out of the chicken and waffles because "so many people had ordered them for mother's day brunch". The six kids in our party had been looking forward to these two dishes, and we would not have come had we known they wouldn't be available. We went across the street to the Warehouse Bar & Grill. Food & service there were excellent."

  • "I took my wife here for our 9th wedding anniversary and it was very nice. The staff was great, the food was awesome, the staff was friendly and the prices were excellent. I would strongly suggest going there if you're looking for a fine time and dinning experience. "

  • "The food is of large portions and very good. I had the fried chicken and waffle, and my wife ordered the braised short ribs--both delicious. We sat in the terrace near the entrance that overlooks the street and it was a serene setting. And this place is worth a couple more visits to investigate the live Jazz in the cigar loung upstairs or enjoy the DJ in the bayou room. We also would like to try out the main dining room which appears to be styled from the elegant ante bellum South. The whole place is an experiece."

  • "We had a family of 7 with two small children for for Easter brunch and one person who arrived a little late. The restaurant was very accommodating and the food plus service did not suffer at all. We will definitely come back!"

  • "Easter brunch was disappointing. We knew it was $30/pp, but entree selection was limited. We opted not to have the complimentary glass of champagne and our small-sized bloody mary's were $9.50 each. We had 3 adults and 2 kids, but kid's drink were not included in the $30 fee & we got charged for (2) Cokes and (2) chocolate milks as well. We could not get a second basket of bisquits which just seemed absurd when you are waiting for your food to arrive. The food we ordered was good, but the value just wasn't there, it seemed skimpy for $30/person fee. Additionally, we could smell the stale cigarette/cigar smoke from the night before. We like 219, but the whole experience was sub par this time around. We won't return next Easter."

  • "Service very poor. Had a business group and they do not want to go back due to poor and slow service from staff."

  • "We were seated by the window and had a great view of King street. The ambience and mood were great. I had the chicken and waffles. I loved the lightness of the batter on the chicken and thaw waffles were light. I would go back to this restaurant again."

  • "I reserved a table at the last minute for a group of visitors from Europe. Everything went marvelously, from explanations of Cajun food to the visitors to the wine list. I couldn't have asked for a better and more impressive event. Our wait staff was superb. Thank you 219."

  • "Good food, nice ambience...waiter was a bit quirky, almost rude...took a friend of mine and her daughter for brunch. Overall pleasant but the older waiter (late 30s or early 40s) needs an attitude adjustment."

  • "My family and friends dined here for a birthday celebration. The ambiance and space was perfect. We are were seated comfortably in a room that even though we shared it with another large party, it worked out well. Tui', our server, was very attentive, accommodating, and personable. The evening was going well....until the food was served. It may have been the chef for the evening but there was WAY TO MUCH salt in the food and our fried chicken for the chicken and waffles was under cooked. I am hoping that it was just a bad night and someone didn't taste the food because the restaurant is a very pleasant place to visit."

  • "Reservation? What reservation? They had my name written down, correct number of people, but no tables. The host actually seemed annoyed that we showed up for our reservation. After waiting fifteen - twenty minutes with no apology, they finally seated us. Our waiter, was efficient, but also seemed inconvenienced that we were there. The food was good, but given that we felt uninvited, it sort of ruined the experience. I will say I was there once before and the food and service were great. I guess it was just an off night. Too bad."

  • "Our server was rude and not accommodating. The restaurant was aware that we would be a group of about a dozen or so people. They boasted that they were good for groups. Service was slow, there was no one to help the waiter serve our table and he clearly could not handle a group at all. Service was slow, it took 40 minutes to get dessert (none of which had to be prepared--it was cheesecake)."

  • "The food was amazing! However the staff was a little dry and not very helpful. Maybe it was because there was a snow storm the day before but I believe the staff makes the experience just as much as the food and they fell a little short in that department. But the fact that I'm still commenting about the food speaks volumes! Everything was delicious! I think I'll give it another try just to make sure it wasn't an off day."

  • "If you have a unique group of friends this spot is great for satisfying several night out tastes. The restaurant satisfies the foodie, the bar takes care of the spot to hang socialize and meet new people, the live jazz lounge is great for the musician of all levels and the cigar lounge relaxing."

  • "They took us earlier than our 8 pm reservation but ended up waiting 30 MINUTES before a server even noticed us and there were only 3 other tables with guests. The food was great and they gave us a free dessert for their error. I believe though we should have left after waiting 25 minutes, that has never happened to me at a nearly empty restaurant. Only two stars this time although I have been to 219 many times and it usually is better. Hope no one has to wait 30 minutes to be noticed ever again."

  • "Extremely quiet with very mediocre food. I hate to say it, but you'd be better off going to an Outback Steakhouse or some other chain."

  • "Outstanding food with starters like the she-crab soup, oysters, blue crab with prices starting about $9. Main menu starts in low $20's and our duck, red snapper and a butternut like raveloi were all excellent. Children's menu was all homemade and large servings. Wine list starts about $40, but nice selection. Service was excellent with bringing children's plates quickly. It is an old house converted for dining and main dining room is charming. Outdoor seating available. $$$"

  • "The prefix menu was too pricey for what was served it was a 3 course meal however overpriced. The restaurant shares space with a bar underneath and another dance venue overhead the cigarette/cigar smell ruined the ambiance and the noise and stomping overhead was ridiculous. The bathroom was very outdated and awful."

  • "I was nervous at first because the menu was fixed course for V-day. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the options once we arrived. It was difficult to choose because all of the plates sounded fantastic. I ended up with the chac. board, short braised ribs and truffles for dessert. My husband had a crab and goat cheese starter, steak and truffles as well. Perfect all-around. Most notable for me was the pate, in-house cured duck, and the braised ribs."

  • "I had the pleasure of dining here on Valentine's Day with my fiancée. The room had a chandelier as well as fireplace which made for a very pleasing ambience. Our server, Himash (spelling?), was absolutely wonderful. He was in no way intrusive and offered very good suggestions, as I am not well acquainted with the types of items on the menu and definitely needed assistance. My only regret was not being able to finish the cheesecake I had for dessert because I was so full. We will absolutely be returning!"

  • "Our food was late. Entrée was brought after a long wait but the appetizer was not served to us yet. Waiter was not aware of the mistake till we told him that we had not had our appetizer yet then he took our entrée back to the kitchen, brought the appetizer to us then waited for a long time before bringing our entrée back. The people at the next table were served deserts twice! They had to confess that they had already had their desert and were waiting for their bill!! This was our second visit to the restaurant. The first time was great and the guests that came with us were impressed but this time around, we were not too happy!!!"

  • "The restaurant was good, but only offered a "specials menu" for the evening- excluding the regular dinner menu. That was the biggest disappointment for the night. The food they did offer was very good though..just not what we had expected."

  • "We like this restaurant very much. It's the perfect location to meet friends for dinner. The atmosphere is just right for catching up while enjoying good service and tasty food. The menu is nicely varied and includes New Orleans Style dishes. This evening, we were seated next to the fireplace which was perfect for this cold winter night. I am crazy about oysters and have to try fried oysters everywhere we dine. These were lightly breaded and fried to light gold. Very nice. The steaks were perfectly prepared and flavorful. We'll always be happy to return."

  • "Very limited menu. Suggest more starters and a better varirety. Main Menui also was too limiting . Suggest broader streach of items. Also, the portions were rather small. Suggest adding sides. Desert selections were few and very uninspiring."

  • "But, yikes, watch out for the nil-lingual wait staff! We asked for a basket of bread (which normally automatically comes with your meal) and the guy said "no." Basically, he didn't understand a word we said! Employees with so little English should not be serving tables. This is always a good restaurant for egg dishes - the best eggs benedict anywhere!"

  • "An excellent and reasonable brunch menu. Great omelettes to choose from. I was craving the fried chicken and waffles with collard greens, but exercised some uncharacteristic restraint and went for the crawfish omelette. My friend went with the crab & brie omelette and we split an order of fried oysters. That and a couple bloody mary's left no room for dessert (we were eyeing the bananas foster, but deferred. Maybe next time."

  • "We picked this restaurant because it was creol cuisine, but the menu did not reflect the online one and was extremely limited when we got there. They were out of the mainstay items like grits to go with their shrimp and grits. Both my husband and my food was lukewarm and extremely bland and undercooked. Thank God for the romantic ambiance! That was the only thing that saved this experience."

  • "We met another couple there during Restaurant Week because none of us had ever gone. Nice selection of seasonally available food. The portions were a nice size, not too big. We had the arugula salad with goat cheese, wild boar and smashed potatoe and the mahi mahi followed by creme brulee and bread pudding. A nice atmosphere for adult dining especially date night or meeting friends/family. We'd go back again for a special occassion."

  • "I was really looking forward to taking my wife to this restaurant for her birthday. The website looked great, the menu has several items that made my mouth water but upon arrival we were disappointed to find out that the majority of the menu did not exist anymore. The entire list of side was no longer available. We were told the dessert options then after ordering were told they were out. Our reservation was at 6:30 how are you our of desserts. The service was very basic. I received better service at TGI fridays."
