Diner Reviews
  • "I appreciated that the restaurant was able to accommodate my special requests - sat in a great location and the server brought us champagne at the start as requested. I remember my food being better the first time I visited; my prawns and scallops were over done but otherwise had a great experience."

  • "booked for 7 ...arrived with 9...2 kids added....managed to seat us but manager/host did not appear happy...did not feel welcome.....food was good...service was good....the manager/host then cancelled our open table reservation (i guess to stop us from getting the precious 100 points)...the only reason i booked this restaurant was because it was on open table....as a result of the technical cancellation i have wasted time clarifying my reservation etc.....not pleasant..."

  • "My wife and I came up to Whistler for the week and after experiencing some fine local cuisine (Sushi - night one, Steak - night two) we weren't really expecting much for our third night at 21 Steps. However, as it turns out, we were pleasantly surprised. Great food and a warm "vibe" made for a very positive experience. Service was top-notch and the place just had a really positive energy to it. Not the place for a quiet getaway, but if you like that uptempo, open, vibrant dining experience, then you could do far worse than 21. Great job guys - Thanks! JP"

  • "We had a wonderful special occasion dinner last week at 21 Steps! This is a must-do o. Our annual trip to Whistler. The food Was fantastic and Stacey and Gardiner are wonderful hosts! Be sure to add this to your list of wonderful whistler experiences!"

  • "Ate here on recent trip, food is good, not great. During dinner it is VERY LOUD. We were in the middle of the room, you almost have to yell to be heard the someone across the table from you. Service was ok, no problems."

  • "I love 21 steps - I have lived in Whistler for 2 years now and it is my favorite restaurant in town. The food is always great without fail - the baked mushroom caps small plate is my "best dish" in Whistler. However, the last 2 times in 2 weeks that I have dined here, I have felt the service to be poor; which is upsetting, as I recommend this restaurant to a lot of people working in a hotel. Last week the service was very long, it took 20 minutes for 1 drink to be brought to the table after ordering, and then my pasta dish that I asked to take away with me was never brought to the table for me to take home. Then this week a friend and I were continuously rushed to make decisions and eat because of the next reservation for our table."

  • "Really, my hotel recommended this restaurant and I had to go on my own the first time. Not only was the filet tender and flavorful, but the service was great! It was busy and they still took the time to make me feel comfortable. When I came back with my husband it was just as good! And since I wasn't alone, I was able to fit in the mushroom cap appetizer - yummy! Definitely will keep this place in mind next time I'm in Whistler!!"

  • "Came with 4 other friends for Saturday night dinner and we all thought our meals were great and will be back again."

  • "Atmosphere was great, lots of relaxed energy in a great location. We started with the mussels - east coast mussels on the west coast, disappointed not see local mussels when they can be sourced so close. Went with the curry sauce and the chef just didn't nail it, it was OK. The main course was better, seafood pasta included lots of good seafood but the sauce was bland, again the chef didn't nail it. The short rib was outstanding, my wife wished she would have ordered it too, we would definitely recommend it. Finished with dessert, mud pie, good but not to die for. Service was very good, the waitress was attentive but not overbearing, friendly and sincere. Prices were fair, two can dine for about $100 plus tip."

  • "Good food with good price for Whistler. Nice selections of tapas and mains."

  • "Small plates were bland and disappointing--we ordered the Caesar salad and Queso Fundido. Large plates ranged from good (bison steak) to I could have had my child out this in a crock-pot style (short ribs). Service was spotty at best. Did not stay for dessert."

  • "We had an amazing dinner at 21 Steps and really enjoyed the experience. It's got a great location and nice views of the town. The menu was fantastic and hard to choose from all the great items. The prices were excellent for the quality and quantity of food. This was the best dining experience we had in Whistler after 6 days of eating out. Great service and nice atmosphere. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We would have gone several times if we'd tried it earlier in our stay. We also ventured upstiars to The Attic (their lounge) for drinks and dessert and this was also very nice. A great place!"

  • "We came early, 5.45, and it was still pretty calm. I was recommended a very good spinach soup as a starter. The Cod and Baby Ribs was excellent. The wine recommendation to The Cod was very good. Nice and efficent Service!"

  • "Took my boyfriend for his bday dinner. He ordered the peppercorn filet. It was cooked perfectly medium rare. Our waitress was very attentive and she remembered to bring out his bday cake I bought for him. The only negative comment was the line to be seated was long (we had a reservation) but we saw at least 4 tables which were empty/open. Not sure why there was a line but maybe lack of waitstaff on Sunday. Great dinner."

  • "Loved this restaurant. We made a reservation on a thursday for Friday evening and there weren't many time options left. We chose 9pm , and when we arrived, our table was ready and waiting for us. Service was excellent, entrees were amazing and desserts to die for. Wish we had found this place earlier in our vacation because we would have loved to have gone back."

  • "We have been to Whistler a few times and always make a point of eating at 21 steps, usually twice! Food is always loveky and it has a great atmosphere. Well worth a visit."

  • "Liked the fish dish. Great seasoning and veggies. Very generous portion. Only issue was it was noisy."

  • "The food was all quite good and came out very quick! Service was very prompt, in that way. Although, after being seated for only about 30 min, and having ordered drinks and appetizers, but no entrees yet, the waitress felt us necessary to warn us that they had 'two hour flips on their tables" and if we took longer than our allotted two hours they'd have to move us somewhere else. I thought that was a pretty absurd thing to tell a customer in a restaurant like that. So what was supposed to be a relaxing, enjoyable night out as a couple, turned out feeling like we were being rushed out of there."

  • "We were from out of town and wanted a fine dining experience. We had a look at the menu on their website and thought it would be a nice relaxing dinner, however the food was almost that of pub food (i.e.. ribs and fries, they had salmon and rice - which was cooked perfectly but over seasoned). I was disappointed with the quality of food for the price we paid - but the server was great. Would recommend for families, but not really classy, date night material."

  • "This is our third visit to 21 Steps. Remembered their small plate menu as being fun but found their large plate being very good. 21 Steps salad and the Caesar salad were great and the short ribs and seafood pasta were very good. Did not do dessert. Well worth a visit."

  • "I especially want to thank Open Table and its flower delivery partners. The birthday flowers were pre-delivered to the restaurant in time and were at the table waiting. They were exactly as shown in the catalogue and they lasted a good length of time. I will definitely be using Open table and the flower service again. Of course, the birthday celebration was great at the restauratn with excellent food, service and atmosphere."

  • "We were there to enjoy 21 steps as we got 3 positive commendations. The 3 meals we selected were excellent. My wife had cod, my niece had the pacific salmon, and I had pork chop. Our server, Rudy, was helpful as she proposed the right choice of wine to satisfy us. She was careful to our needs. I would definitely go back. The quality:price ratio was very good and I would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends. Cheers!"

  • "Salmon, short ribs and shrimp entrees were to die for!!! Great salad starters and desert. You won't be sorry. I'm getting hungry just thinking about our meal!"

  • "A good restaurant. I had the scallops and prawns which were lovely. They make a fantastic martini too. Service was exceptionally slow and unattentive. The restaurant was very busy but that's not a reason for ignoring customers. It is a very noisy place so if you are looking for a quiet evening then you'll have to go elsewhere. The prices are reasonable for Whistler."

  • "This was our fourth time at 21 steps and it has always been great food and amazing service. The other night it was more like okay food and awful service. The food was not terrible, but for ~25 bucks+ for an entree it should've been amazing. Plus I've ordered the exact same dish before and it WAS amazing. The service was pretty much terrible. The waitress wasn't rude but it was hard to get her attention to get drink refills, steak knives etc. And again, at those prices I shouldn't have to ask for my drink to be refilled, you should be asking me! Plus she straight up forgot to get me another drink once I finally did get her attention. This place is usually in all ways amazing, so I'm saddened to see them slip like this."

  • "One of the best meals we had in Whistler. It makes a nice change to have a menu that's a little different from the usual ribs etc and the food was delicious and very good value. Service was friendly and quick. Highly recommended!"

  • "I made a reservation after viewing the reviews. It was my first visit and it did not disappoint. Fresh bread was provided with tasty garlic butter. We shared a salad and an appetizer. Salad was very fresh and the mushroom cap appetizer so good. My main course was the BC Salmon Bowl. A creamy mix of fettuccine fresh veggies and salmon. The dish seemed small when presented but the deep plate was more than filling and delicious. Casual atmosphere with great food and service. I would definitely visit again."

  • "Our new go to place when in Whistler. I have walked by this place so many times and finally decided to try it out.......boy I wish I had done it sooner! Great menu with all kinds of choices. The food is great and excellent service. Cant wait to come back to Whistler and try out some more of the menu items."

  • "Busy and lively, albeit a bit noisy. Reasonable food at a reasonable price (for Whistler, that is). The short ribs were tender enough to cut with a fork. The tomato mozzarella salad was a bit smothered with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, but the fresh mozzarella was of good quality and the tomatoes were ripe and sweet. The desserts were generous and tasty. A good place for a nice casual dinner."

  • "We had a lovely time and meal the other night. We were seated as soon as we got there and the service was excellent. We were not rushed but were not forgotten. The food was good, hot and we did not wait for ever for it to come. Thank you for a lovely evening and we will certainly recommend to our friends."
