Its history, paintings around the wall & decorations on the ceiling were delightful. Services were great and recommended food according to your desire & taste."

  • "We tried The 21 Club during Restaurant Week and would never go back. Our cucumber gazpacho was so salty that even I couldn't eat it and I love salt. My salmon was just ok, nothing special, but the vegetables that came with it had such a weird taste that I couldn't eat them. You couldn't taste the vegetables themselves, only whatever sauce they were cooked in. My daughter thought that her roast chicken was like something you would get at a bad wedding reception. My daughter's peach tart had such a dense crust that she couldn't cut through it, so she just ate the peach. The only good parts were the creme brulee and my glass of sauvignon blanc."

  • "We went there before a play and were late getting there and they did everything they could to see that we got the show on time. If you are going to an 8pm show get a 5;45 reservation. We whant to go back we we have more time to enjoy the place."

  • "Had a 9 pm reservation but there was no one to greet and seat guests. I had to flag someone down to get seated. Once we sat down the waiter brought a menu and I asked if they had restaurant week offerings (as with some places you need to ask specifically for the rw menu), and the waiter responded, "Will you let me talk?" The mood did not improve from there. At the end of the meal, my friend went to the restroom where someone insisted on applying hand soap for him and demanded tip even after he declined the service. The guy then responded, "What, have you never had such good service before?" Will not be coming back to this patronizing, condescending, and downright rude establishment."

  • "One never fails to have a good time at the 21 Club. Just go to the under $60 a bottle wine list or bin ends and order. The house beer is the best. After the waiter saw me switch glasses with my wife when she was not looking he brought her a free refill."

  • "This was our first time at 21 Club. Even though our lunch reservation was at 2:30pm, we were promptly seated at 2:15pm. The Bar Room's ceiling was beautifully decorated with mementos over the years. In addition, the Remington bronze sculptures and nautical paintings caught my attention. The service and food was impeccable, especially the perfectly braised baby lamb shank. Your restaurant is very fortunate to have Chef Delpique. The entire staff was very attentive, friendly, and professional. The entire dining experience from beginning to end was truly outstanding. We are looking forward to having dinner in the near future."

When we chose the wine the somelier was clearly unimpressed. Cant believe staff would behave like this just because we are not millionaires. Disappointing experience........."

I wonder why management hasn't offered their two menus and swizzle sticks for sale since I figure at least most 75% of their clientele are out of towners."

  • "I went to 21 Club during Restaurant Week with two good friends. We were greeted warmly at the door and enjoyed a drink in the bar until our table was ready. The dining room is cozy and quirky. Service throughout dinner was excellent. The sommelier helped us choose a great bottle of wine. Our only complaint was actually the food, which was disappointing. We had cucumber gazpacho, asparagus and prosciutto, and grilled calamari to start, and they were almost great. The entrees were the most disappointing. The lamb shank was excellent and the potatoes with the roasted chicken were exceptional, but the grilled salmon was dry and overcooked. Dessert was average. I'm going to assume they just don't try too hard for restaurant week."

  • "My husband and I went to 21 Club last night for its restaurant week menu, and we left more than a little disappointed. Perhaps it's not fair to judge the restaurant, since we didn't partake in the steak or the wine. But the steak wasn't an option on the restaurant week menu. I have to say that we both found the food to be so-so. My husband had the lamb shank, and he pointed out he had a better lamb shank at a hole-in-the-wall moroccan restaurant a few weeks ago. The restaurant has a fascinating history, but I guess we didn't realize how much the place would feel like an old school country club. Half the patrons were the type of regulars who make condescending chit chat with the waiters and laugh at their own jokes. It just wasn't for us."

  • "21 is a 20th Century classic which has avoided being a mere antique. Vibrant atmosphere. Elegant service but not stuffy. Based on an earlier experience with a promotional offer, I was worried about being treated as second class customer if ordering Restaurant Week. Not so at all. They put RW choices right on main menu so that we didn't have to ask. Service was friendly and helpful when we opted for that."

  • "not '21's fault, I went first 40 years ago during the days of the 3 martini lunch and cigars, and a great buzz to the place, power lunches and tourists were discreetly directed to Siberia upstairs. Over the years thanks to the smoking ban, breakfast meetings and political correctness it has slowly but surely changed ino a tourist attraction, mineral water etc. I was not even offered the wine list last visit and there was 1 lonely guy at the bar with a martini. Food and service as good as always, still one of the greatest places anywhere, just different now."

  • "This was our first ever Restaurant Week meal and it was a fine place to start. All the employees were friendly and helped us feel right at home. Due to the reputation of 21, we were apprehensive about this, but we felt comfortable from the outset. Our table was well situated so we both could admire the room (and the other diners, of course). We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the helpings -- from appetizers to desserts, they were ample -- and delicious. Why have we waited so long to participate in Restaurant Week? We'll not make that mistake again!"

I wanted to take a photo of all the "stuff" hanging from the season, but it was too dark. It was not too dark to read the menu, as there were strategically placed lights shining on each table."

  • "Went back after a long absence.The bar upfront is still solid; great service and pours. Back in the dining room is another story. The service is good and the wine list is adequate and well priced but don't expect to be wowed by anything on your plate. I have had a better Caesar at LaGuardia, the chicken hash was cold and just plain and the porterhouse was dry, thin and overpriced. Get the crab cake, steak tartar and a martini and you will be happy camper."

  • "Salmon/crab coulis & crabcake appetizer and profiterole desserts get an A+. $34 burger and filet entrees, generously, a B-, but what was I thinking ordering filet at 21? I was too impressed by my sumptuous bargain Fortia Chateauneuf to notice the menu didn't specify standard (NY Strip) steak frites. Who serves bland filet with frites? Medium rare came out medium well. But enough of that. Go for Gregory, filling Reverend Robinson's shoes admirably; ask for the wine cellar tour and ask about all those trucks & helmets' origins. Skip the entrees, shamelessly order multiple appetizers and desserts. Enjoy the grand, if derivative, spectacle. There won't be another quite like it. A classic, like seeing Bobby Short, but 21's still here!"

  • "Refreshing to "step back" every now and then at what defines a restaurant. Just marvelous from the moment you are greeted at the door until you are escorted out upon completing your dining experience. Great prixe fix for lunch or go ala' carte, either way you will enjoy your meal. Great roasted mussels and the sole to die for. With all the fancy dishes being prepared in the "modern" restaurants, it's so nice to know where to find honest cooking that's great without the "smoke and mirrors"."
