Chose this restaurant because it
was near the theater. When we walked in, it was empty and no one came to the table to take a drink order. The martins we're fabulous and so was the meal we ordered. Chicken tikka, which is usually overlooked, was perfectly spiced and juicy and ditto for the shrimp biryani. The tandoori vegetables we're wonderful too. We will return. "

All of the food was absolutely
delicious, with nice big portions!"
Dined on 4/19/2014
The food was alright, but clearly
not noteworthy. Prices were reasonable but there are other dinner choices for my money."

While I haven't been to Darbar for
awhile because I found better Indian restaurants in NY, eating at 2 Darbar Grill convinced me I made the right choice. The food (excepting a very tasty scallops started) was so tired and tasteless, as if fresh spices and herbs weren't the core of good Indian food. The service wasn't much better and the decor at the same level, so I see no reason to bother when NY has so many better options."
Dined on 3/28/2014
The attentive service far
outstripped the food, which was okay but not great. The goat was tougher than it needed to be (I've had goat before), with small parts of bones left in, suggesting a too-fast job with a cleaver. The chicken tikka masala was good, but no better than can be had for half the price on E. 6th St."

I had my Dinner Club meet for
dinner at 2 Darbar Grill. My group grw from 5 originally to last minute 7 people. 2 Darbar were wonderful in accommodating us and sat us at a bigger table in the back under a beautiful stain glass skylight. The restaurant is very lovely and the staff was great. Even better was the food. Everyone loved what they ordered and our club had a great night out."

The food was flavorful, the
service very attentive. If you like Indian food, and like it with the "right" levels of aroma, spice, heat - Darbar Grill is a great choice. Recommend highly."

Rich, well-seasoned Mawligattany,
tasty accompaniment relishes for samosas, elegant Tandoori salmon, delicious vegetable korma. My friend and I are fish eating vegetarians and we had a wonderful meal here. The lights are low and the atmosphere is calm. A perfect dinner after work."

I enjoy Indian food very much and
as it was my first time, I had the sampling menu - $38 for dinner. It was correct but not special in any way. The breads (papadams and naan) and the sauces that came with the papadams were the highlights. The restaurant itself felt tired and warn. It appeared that the team was going through the motions. The soup was oily, the samosa's bland. The mango mousse was so-so. The main, salmon tikka, was ok but again not up to the billing. The restaurant was inconsistent with the ratings given on this web site. For me this is the first time that has happened."

Fun cocktails, great service, very
good mulligatawny soup, curries and fish dishes. Yes, I would definitely go again. Only downside -- the muzak. There was really cheezy elevator music coming over the speakers. (Herb Alpert's "This guy's in love with you" sticks in my mind) but like elevator music everywhere - eventually you can tune it out."

The service and food were
superior. Our server was very helpful with recommendations and other waitstaff were readily available to bring drinks and clear plates. Some of the best Indian food I've ever eaten."

I was in NYC for work and looked
for a restaurant close to my hotel. Darbar 2 had good reviews and so I decided to give them a try. I was really impressed by the quality and quantity of the food... it was a great value but also very good. I ordered one of the dishes that indicated (by the icon of three red peppers) it was very spicy. I have a high tolerance for spice, but the dish was very spicy for me. I liked the place so much that I came back the next day for the lunch buffet. Everything was really good and very flavorful. I also liked the fact that the waiters were very attentive. I had at least 3 different people filling my water glass and checking in on me. Great place!"

Decent Indian food -- not
spectacular, but prices were reasonable. Almost too many guys waiting on us, over-pouring wine, it was a bit confusing. But we had a good meal (4 of us) and didn't have to shout at each other. I will go again."

We choose this restaurant because
it was in the 10th best indian. It was absolutely a good choice! The only thing, we were sitting in front of the bar...next time we Will sit in the back!! We had the PASSAGE TO INDIAN, a 4 plates with a lot of choice. We had lamb, chicken marsala, Wow!!!!!! Don't hesitate and go to that place to have à beautiful expérience!!!"

The food was pretty good but the
ambiance was lacking. The service was okay"

A warm and inviting atmosphere,
attentive wait staff, and beautifully prepared and presented food. Every dish was delicious."

The staff was friendly and
accomodating. We will comeback."
Dined on 12/18/2013
This was the best Indian
restaurant I ever tried. I was amazed with the service. The way staff serves you is unbelievable. They bring the hot service plates and wipe them before they put them in front of you (which should be a normal practice in every restaurant). Totally a place to try. Can not wait to go back."
Dined on 12/6/2013
This meal was absolutely
delicious. Everything we ordered ranked among the best Indian dishes we've eaten. We had chicken and lamb and the Garlic Nann was incredible."
Dined on 12/3/2013
Great Indian food, thoughtfully
prepared and beautifully served. For something off the beaten track, this restaurant is a find. Service was impeccable."
Dined on 11/13/2013
I have been coming for the last 2
years: Darbar Grill is consistently fresh and delicious with professional service. Each time I try a new vegetarian dish and it continues to add to my repertoire of Indian food. Keep up the good work."

Overall experience was good. Nice
decoration. Wonderful service. Food was not very impressive, but still good food."
Dined on 10/31/2013
overall quite good, the place is
small but food is well prepared with a touch of creativity which is not usual in indian restaurants. Service is ok, waiters are nice and kind but kind of slow. good option if you like indian"

meal with a friend when you want to talk and be treated well by staff."

Not your typical Indian place.
Excellent food, fresh flavors, well prepared."

My parents were in town visiting
this weekend and Darbar was the perfect fix for their first night here: conveniently close to their hotel, delicious food, and quiet ambience--all necessities after a long day of traveling. Our waiter, Harsh, was very attentive. I was the only vegan out of the group and Harsh made sure not to forget. As our food was served he realized that the rice had dairy in it and immediately offered whole wheat roti as a supplement. Harsh was able to make great recommendations based on what each of us said we were in the mood for. If you're looking for a good, low-key Indian dinner with friends or family Darbar Grill is a good option in Midtown East."

We enjoyed this restaurant very
much.the food was wonderful. It started out a bit rocky, they had a very large table with noisy children, so they weren't seating in the back of the restaurant, they were very apologetic for it. As soon as that group left the atmosphere was lovely .mixed drinks are not their strong suite, I'd stick to straight or wines. Again they made it right. We met the chef and he sent us a special desert. The scallop appetizer was wonderful, the lamb dises were delicious, the staff was very nice. Very reasonably priced."

I took my husband for his birthday
weekend to NYC and found this restaurant on Open Table. My expectations were exceeded by both the food and service. Everything that we got was delicious. The staff were attentive and nice. The price was also very affordable for the excellent food that you got. I will tell everyone I know who likes Indian food about this place when they visit NYC."
Dined on 9/20/2013
We ordered the Lamb, Chicken,
Salmon to share as entree and they were all excellent. For appetizer we shared the shrimp and the chicken kebab and both were fantastic. I'ld definitely go back."

My boyfriend and I came here for
my birthday On a Saturday. We made reservations and we were seated immediately. The ambiance was very welcoming and romantic.Dim lightening, candles on the table kind of scene.I ordered curry scallops and my boyfriend ordered mango chicken.I'm not a huge fan of curry because it's spicy but I figured I'd give it a try. The curry wasn't overly spicy, just right. The rice it came with was so soft and delicious. My boyfriend's mango chicken was divine. It wasn't overly cooked it was tender and flavorful.Afterwards, they gave us complimentary dessert, idk what it was but it wasn't too pleasant. The service was excellent. They were not overbearing nor did he leave us to flag him down. I would definitely go back again!"

I have eaten at 1 Darbar several
times and noted that it is getting a little raggedy (time for a remodelling job). For some reason, I never discovered the 2 Darbar site (on the East side). The decor is muted and elegant. The food is quite good for mid-level (price) Indian fare. The waiters can use a course in friendliness, though. I don't know if it was a language or cultural thing, but the all-male contingent was stolid, almost brusque. The female hostess could not have been more warm and welcoming. I would return to try other foods."

One of the best Indian restaurants
I've ever been to."
Dined on 8/17/2013
Decided to check this out for
restaurant week. Great spot for a quiet romantic evening. Food was delicious and obviously prepared fresh. Wait staff was efficient without being overwhelming. Good experience...will be back."
Dined on 7/26/2013
Convenient location for us, and
the meal was OK (but not great). Lamb saag was not very flavorful, and my friend ordered shrimp vindaloo but got chicken vindaloo. A basket of flat bread came with the meal - but no other goodies that you often get in Indian restaurants (chutney, any other side dishes, etc). It was ok, but I will not rush back."
Dined on 7/16/2013
The staff were wonderful with
suggesting items to try. The food was beyond expectations. Would go there again."
Dined on 6/19/2013
The food is quite good, it tastes
quite authentic and their is a lot of choices on the menu, the spices are a wide variety and the portions are decent for dinner. For lunch they have a buffet which is quite reasonable with the choices they have and the price is well worth it. The waiting staff however are not really observant towards you or your table, they forget your orders, don't check on your beverage or bother to refill it. Bottom line, good for terrible service."
Dined on 5/26/2013
The portions wer a little on the
small side, but flavors were pretty good. There is better and worse Indian out there. Chicken samosas were good, but dry and bland without the sauces. The Chicken Tikka Masala suggested as a house specialty and was fine, but we asked for Med spice which wasnt spicy. I've had better. The tandoori chicken was pretty good...on par with other places. All in all, servicable food. Doubt I will fee the need to return."
Dined on 5/7/2013
I usually go to 1 Darbar but
thought I would try this location since it is closer to where I live. You can always expect great service and excellent Indian cuisine when you go here. Prices are reasonable and if you like spicy food, try the Shrimp Vindaloo. Neither location is ever extremely busy so you aren't rushed. The restaurants won't dazzle you on the inside but I prefer they invest in the food instead of a glitizy environment."
Dined on 5/4/2013
Everything is great! My only
disappointment is when I asked the waiter to replace rice with something else since I dont eat rice and he told me they dont do "that". I thought it was a little inflexible but overall, good food, good service and good price."
