A word from 1920 Tavern at Opulent
1920 Tavern at Opulent is a global-inspired kitchen serving classic favorites with a modern twist. Although deeply rooted in the style of the great American restaurant, 1920 Tavern at Opulent is a celebration of the present featuring contemporary interpretations of market-driven and locally sourced ingredients. 1920 Tavern at Opulent focuses on the heritage of American dishes with an emphasis on global influences, styles and forms. The beautiful and meticulous interior design, inspired by the sophistication of the Roaring Twenties and speakeasy style, presents globe lighting and walls lined with antique mirrors and crystal accents. Dark brown woods and leather banquettes contrast diamond-shaped white tiles beneath beautifully suspended light pendants hung above the bar and dining areas. 1920 Tavern at Opulent’s refined and approachable cuisine showcases an array of fresh greens, savory starters, market-fresh sea fare and Masami American Kobe beef. Diner Reviews
  • "The big problem, I suspect, was naming it Opulent before they changed the name. Pretentious much? Inc, which it was before, always seemed packed and the ahi tuna corn tacos were incredible. We loved going there. Now that it' s the 1920 Tavern, it's fine but no more. My husband said the spaghetti with kobe meatballs was reminiscent of Chef Boyardee and my grouper sandwich was too heavily fried. More restaurants need to get on the healthier bandwagon and stop with the frying. That said, the cocktail was delicious and place has potential. We would give it another try - maybe we just ordered wrong. Also hostess seemed a little bent out of shape and that's really bad. Server introduced himself 3 times - 3 too many."

  • "Food was wonderful. Service was beyond amazing. Staff, including bartender, was very attentive. Will return again and again"

  • "Quiet rainy Sunday evening: very few diners, very attentive, friendly staff. We sat at a booth opposite the bar. We had never eaten at Inc. so cannot compare. Eggplant fries are a new menu item for us so we ordered them; good but one of us thought they had too much crust. Chargrilled (with andouille and tabasco) and boutique (freshest raw) oysters were yummy. (Had to ask for the pepper mill - a "must-have" with oysters.) Presentation of the Tuna Tataki was excellent, and the chef's version a nice twist. Loved the sesame oil powder! We finished with salads. The mis-named Quinoa Salad - yes, it had a few grains of quinoa in it - is essentially a green salad with an enjoyable blend of tastes. The Green Goddess salad was fabulous."

  • "After waiting a long time for a waiter to come to our table, we asked for one! Took our order and 30 minutes later (no food yet!) came to our table and asked if we'd like any dessert? - Still, no food! Food was adequate - not special and pricey! This place was great as INC and fit Canton St. so much better! Greedy owners, for sure! Need to train staff better! Don't think we'll go back!"

  • "As a note, Opulent's name has changed to 1920 Tavern. Came here with family and overall enjoyed the experience. The food was at times overpriced for what you got (if you want the Kobe meatballs, you will pay $11 for 2...and frankly, they didn't taste that extraordinary). I will say that the desserts were fantastic! Got the Amazing Burger which was a good burger, but again, not extraordinary. Fish tacos were a hit (recipe saved from when restaurant was Inc). After 6 on a Saturday night, the small space will be 100% packed so anticipate high noise levels."

  • "Dined w/ 3 couples. We were seated at a long booth which was tight fitting for 6 adults. I was in the corner. When the waitress greeted out table, I literally could not hear a word she said. Each time she came to take our order or offer more drinks, my husband sitting next to me had to give me the scoop and then tell the waitress my order. This was a miserable experience. Part of dining out is enjoying the menu as your server explains specials and drinks. My entree was ok- had it once before and it was much larger and more delicious the first time. The dishes of the other diners were cleared, the server offered us dessert while I was still eating my dinner. Not the best timing. We finished up and paid. In & out in under 2 hours."

  • "I had chosen Opulent for a special birthday lunch, based on their photos online. I was very disappointed to be seated in the bar area, which is very ordinary and did not feel at all "special." The service was good and attentive, but the meal was very mediocre. My friend had the spaghetti and meatballs, and one of her meatballs was almost raw inside. Very unappetizing. My grouper sandwich was okay, and the fries were good. Coffee was just okay. With all the great places to choose from in Roswell, I wouldn't choose to visit Opulent again."

  • "We celebrated a girlfriends birthday here recently and had a great time seated four girls at at booth. The food was good and the staff pleasant. The only mix up was at the end when splitting the bill and we wanted to pay for the birthday girl we ended up paying a total of 8 checks in order to solve the bill split to cover the Birthday girl. It put a damper on the ending because it took so much time away from our conversations. The peanut butter dessert is amazing but the ice cream gelato is not so tasty. Not sure what was happening Inside but it was crunchy. Our entires order was either the hanger steak or braised beef and all enjoyed those. Plus an appetizer and salads before were delicious too."

  • "My wife and I love this place. They remember you from past visit. They try new things and let the tables give them feedback. Good Staff - Good Food. Always good. Fun place - not stuffy."

  • "Our party of 5 enjoyed each dish individually. The food was good but I can't help but think the restaurant hasn't quite defined itself. If I wanted to describe the restaurant to someone, I don't know exactly what I would say. Again the the food was tasty and we enjoyed ourselves but something was missing."

  • "like the new menu. good food as always, some of the portions were actually too big (trout). grouper sandwich was delicious and crab dip was very good starter too. thanks to the mgt for making the adjustments... great evolution of a great spot."

  • "Pros: First visit to the 1920 (aka Opulent) with a date, and we had a nice time! We were promptly seated in the back dining room for our reservation, and the service was quick to follow. The dining was great, wine selection was pretty good, and the overall ambience was fun! We'll definitely be back. Cons: Staff seemed to be rushing us a bit at first, but we slowed them down setting the pace for our meal, not them. At the height of dinner time, the back dining room can get a bit loud (tile walls, hardwoods, smaller space) but nothing overbearing - just don't expect quiet and romantic. My date said the new menu was about 1/2 the one posted online, so be forewarned that what you see online might not be available on the revised menus IRL."

  • "Love the atmosphere and decor, fabulous location, great drink choices--something for everyone. Good place for drinks with friends. Was seated immediately--i like a prompt waitstaff! Little disappointed in the main entrees we ordered. Fish tasted fishy and the shrimp and grits were swimming in sauce overload. The flatbreads were great as an appetizer. I love the restaurant group (Little Alley, Salt) and wanted to give Opulent a try. I will continue to chose Little Alley as my favorite full meal restaurant in downtown Roswell. But if i am in the market for drinks and apps --Opulent is a good choice!"

  • "I marked for foodies but mean this with it being a Roswell restaurant. Obviously in-town restaurants can be a little more creative with their menus! Still very good food! Great cocktails and wine list, Great tuna app and seafood dip was good, delicious seafood for shrimp & grits, crab cake, and trout. Skip the desserts - not as outstanding as the meal."

  • "We waited for about 10-15 minutes and finally had to flag down a server to get some drinks. When our actual server came, she never introduced herself, just asked us "what do you want"? Service from that point on was slow, we did not get drink refills or even asked if we wanted more drinks. The food was so so as well. We ordered the eggplant fries, a quinoa salad to share, I ordered the braised beef and my friend ordered the farrotto. The eggplant fries were good, but from there the food got really bland. The quinoa salad was light, but didn't have a lot of flavor. The farrotto was tasty, but was unappetizing to look at and very watery. The braised beef was super dry and had no taste. Overall we were very disappointed."

  • "Appetizers were cold, salads and entrees were nothing special. Drinks were good! We had included in our reservation that we were celebrating 3 birthdays which were not acknowledged....:("

  • "This is great restaurant. I was really upset when the owners closed INC, but Opulent has excellent food and a great atmosphere. The fries came out burnt, but we asked our waiter for a new set and he brought them very quickly. Definitely recommend."

  • "This restaurant struck me as totally inexperienced. Known for their oysters they had two varieties. Our waiter did not know what the Boutique oyster was or how much it cost. When our oysters came they were on a bed of sloppy ice water. They forgot the bread and after I asked for it, they brought out a few pieces of unevenly highly charred bread with no butter or oil. Our salad was too acidic and the trout was very average. Even before we got there we ran into trouble...we were running late and I tried calling them for 15 minutes but no one answered the phone."

  • "my friend and I dined at opulence late in the evening after both having had a small bite earlier with our families. We ordered a couple appetizers and drinks. The eggplant fries were good. The spinach dip was not. Drinks were made very well but we felt subtly rushed by our waitress. I felt there may have been some irritation that we did not order entrees. We didn't even stay an hour."

  • "Food is delishious! I love qinuoa salad this time I got it with chicken as entree and it was amazing. Salmon and scallop appetizer yummy but not filling. Peppers are also amazing. Love the atmosphere and service perfect"

  • "We dined at Opulent last week. We had a nice booth for 4 and great service. Good wine list too. Eggplant appetizer was too soggy but the mussels were good. My Salmon was too plain. My husbands fish was excellent. The pasta dish had too much salt. The hangar steak was chewy but....we did like it there and will go back and try some other dishes. The word Opulent is a little much for this place. Opulent meaning over the top so glad they are changing the name."

  • "Date night with my wife last Saturday. The food was excellent - from the appetizer to the entrees. I had the shrimp & grits and my wife really enjoyed the parmesan crusted flounder. Will definitely go back."

  • "Had been so looking forward to it. The service was ridiculous... slow, distracted, inattentive. The food was good in concept, mediocre in execution. And, it's too bad, because it's such a lovely restaurant in a great space. I was entertaining a client and the experience did not send the message I was looking for."

  • "Opulent was an interesting experience. Loud, stylish, and somewhat cramped, with ample opportunity to enjoy you neighbors' conversations. Despite the lack of privacy, some of the food was noteworthy. The amazing burger was quite good, and the goat cheese pound cake was the best dish served at our table. Our server was pleasant and available throughout the meal."

  • "We already loved Salt. And now Opulent gives us another reason to hit Canton St. in Roswell. A nice mix of options that will appeal to many diners without trying to be all things to all people. And the Sunday night prix fixe menu is perfect -- a great deal and a great way to sample other dishes. Who knew that leek bread pudding was so tasty?!"

  • "Went with a group of people to celebrate a birthday and the food was delicious. Had not heard anything good or bad so wasn't sure what to expect. After reading the reviews, I wasn't expecting that much but this was the only place I could get a reservation on a Saturday night so went with it. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The braised beef was out of this world and I'm not a beef person; and my friend said the shrimp and grits was great too. The desserts (loved the panna cotta) and drinks were great too. The only negative thing was that it was too loud and cramped but to be expected in the small restaurants in downtown Roswell."

  • "We tried two of their signature dishes and both were underwhelming. The flounder had little flavor, with a disappointing side, while the Kobe burger was dry. Too many other restaurants to try this one again. Sorry Opulent."

  • "First off, let me say the food was delicious. Everything we tasted was cooked to order and had a lot of flavor. We did have service issues- either our waiter was brand new or needed additional training. We sat by the kitchen and noticed how congested the area was for servers waiting on food. The kitchen seemed to operate slowly or didn't have enough capacity to handle a crowd. After multiple service blunders, we finally spoke to the manager who went ABOVE and BEYOND to fix our issues. Exemplary customer service. However, we would've preferred to enjoy the great food and excellent service rather than be distracted by issues. We will definitely go back as the food was worth the trip."

  • "French onion was great. iceberg & blue salad was tasty (very little blue taste), went down hill from there. The brick presses braised beef was not very hot and the blue cheese polenta underneath was tasteless. The parmesan encrusted flounder was not very warm and tasted fishy as noted by one of our guests. The other said it tasted like wet newspaper. Wines, three bottles and the service was very good. Not our favorite place. Seems like the soup, salad and burger would have been the better choice. Bill"

  • "My second visit, and it was even better than the first time. What makes a great restaurant? First of all, the food has to be excellent - check on that - consistently good here. Second, the service has to be sincere and very responsive - check again - the waiters know how to help customers from recommending dishes to opening and pouring wine - very good. Finally, the restaurant itself has to have some character - this place is somewhat understated, yet intriguing - a little different. We had a very special meal to celebrate a big event and even though there was some hitches (champagne was bit volatile!), a water spill, it did not matter - the food and service so overwhelmed all that and we really enjoyed ourselves."

  • "We love dining in this part of Roswell, and most places are quite nice. Opulent nearly fits... The service was great and friendly, decent selection on the menu, and bar. I would rate the food as average, especially for the price. Our waiter recommended the trout, actually raved about it, but it was bland. Nice portion, but practically no flavor. The wife had spaghetti with Kobe meatballs, that had a nice flavor, but our Freind had the chicken and rice... That tasted like the chef dumped a ton of salt into it. Seating is comfortable, for a bar passing itself as a trendy restaurant, but it was quite loud and about 25% over priced."

  • "Perfect for fun with friends, not so great if you are looking for a romantic spot. The tables are so close together you feel like you are sitting at one big table. I really enjoyed my burger but prefer a more intimate dining experience for the money."

  • "We had reservations at 8pm and didn't get seated until 9pm. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but it was so crowded there was barely enough room to stand. The bar area was so crowded it was hard to get a drink. The hostess sat people that came in after us and whenever I asked about our table she would say that the people at our table were hanging out drinking and would not leave. I'm not sure what the protocol is but it would seem like good customer service to perhaps move us to another table when it came available. The waiter did a good job of taking care of us once we were seated. It was hard to hear him though, due to the noise. The food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy their dish. It is doubtful we will be back."
