  • "My experience was fantastic from the minute I entered the Vanderbilt Hotel until the moment I left. The service was impeccable! The food and view were amazing! I want to thank Julio Delgado for taking the time out to give me a tour of the hotel."

  • "We found this restaurant by accident, when looking for a cigar lounge. 1919 is located in the soon-to-be Condado Vanderbuilt Hotel which should open in late 2014. This restaurant was the most elegant restaurant in San Juan that we ate at. Service was fantastic. Food was incredible. The Tuna appetizer was amazing. They scored in all aspects of a successful restaurant! A well balanced menu with fish and meat and portions that support the 4 course price fixed menu, if you choose. We left feeling that this was the best meal we had in San Juan."

  • "Everything was perfect from the meticulously crafted dishes to the elegant ambiance of the restaurant itself. The ultimate fine dining experience in Puerto Rico."

  • "We have been vacationing in Puerto Rico for 22 years. Each year we try to find one restaurant to have our special dinner. We will look no further!! This place was perfect!! The food, wine, and service were awesome!! Can't wait to return next year!!"

  • "This place is gorgeous. It has great history and bone structure. The service is impeccable but the food is very uneven and at the moment not worth the significant investment. My date and I did the price fix four course and the appetizers and desserts were good and inventive. I had a cold sautéed eggplant with clams dish that was quite good. The pasta and main courses were much less impressive though. Pasta was over salted and undercooked (no, that's not al dente) and the main course was a forgettable undercooked veal chop that wasn't advertised as boneless. It's going to get better I think but at the moment, call back the Commodore for some help!"

  • "we had a great time and enjoyed a fantastic dinner."

  • "Like many fine restaurants, the service is attentive, and the atmosphere with the ocean view relaxing. The manager on duty that evening had a cold personality, but the charming hostesses more, then made up for the for this low point."

  • "The bar and restauant are beautiful and the only reason for the poor service rating is the unexplainable complete rudeness of the head waiter. We felt as if he thought he was a top waiter in Paris and it was a bother for him to be serving tourists in San Jaun. Other than that the staff was generally friendly."

  • "A hotel restaurant in Condado, I didn't know what to expect despite very good reviews. I was very pleasantly surprised - 1919 was excellent start to finish. The food was all interesting and well prepared, the service was attentive without being intrusive, and the wine selection had very good choices at all price levels. One food issue was handled perfectly - both plates removed and replaced with newly prepared dishes - my wife did not have to have her food get cold while my issue was addressed and hers had not just been kept warm while my new dish was prepared. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, particularly if you order nice wine, but it is strongly recommended if you are looking for fine dining in Condado."

  • "We had been to 1919 when they first opened and were blown away by the food, service and atmosphere. On a very recent visit to San Jaun, we decided to see if 1919 was holding up to our memories of it. We are happy to report that 1919 is every bit as good as we remembered. Just walking into the restaurant is an event. The room is beautiful. Once seated you begin to realize you are in for a special night. The level of service in impeccable without being intrusive. As we started with glasses of champagne, a delicious amuse bouche arrived at the table. A favorite wine was selected. Each course was expertly prepared. Visually stunning, creative and most importantly delicious. This is a very special restaurant."

  • "We started with drinks in the Vanderbilt Hotel's Varitas Wine Bar, mojito and an "Eastside" ( ucumber-infused Hendricks) both, exceptional as was a tuna tartare app and a lobster and caviar... if you go to 1919 for dinner, stop for a drink here first. We were escorted to 1919, a beautiful room, started with a Spanish white from Priorat, 2011 Clos D'Agon, then the '94 Rioja Alta 890 for meat courses. Yes, a "chicken soup" to start, which was unlike anything you have had, then we walked through a fusilli and rigatoni pastas, then to halibut, Wagyu beef and a coffee coated venison, and we both choose the Valrhona chocolate dessert - all great. BTW, I was typing this during Augustus Pablo's Up Warrika Hill song, a great old dub tune."

  • "Excellent vegetarian tasting menu (as well as overall menu!). Superlative wine list.. Wonderful help, especially our server, Eduardo Ruiz. We ate at several highly rated restaurants in PR and this was by far the best. Worth going out of your way for."

  • "That term is way overused today, I know, but this restaurant and future Vanderbilt Hotel really are just incredible! Very upscale, very high class, but not snobby or pretentious at all. From start to finish, the team of servers were extremely attentive but never hovering. All courses of our food were extraordinary, with the ravioli dish being the best pasta I have ever eaten. REALLY impressed with this hotel lobby and restaurant. I highly encourage all that want to experience a new level of dining in Puerto Rico, to try it!"

  • "We referred to the Resturant by our hotel. It was suppose to be an outstanding choice, instead it was a big disappointment . The veal was not eatable and had to be returned. Our salmon was bland and without taste. Overall just average at best. Don't go out of your way to go there."

  • "The service was outstanding. Very nice wine list. The food was very good, somewhat a little different, the fish for my main course was outstanding,. We really enjoyed our evening, everything was paced out nicely so we could sit and enjoy."

  • "It's located on the lobby of the Vanderbilt hotel, which is beautiful but still not opened. The food and service was outstanding! The only issue that we had is the lack of table clothes, especially for evening. I guess they wish to showcase their mahogany tables."

  • "Just a great experience. Make sure to get the Prix Fixe, and just hope they have the Panna Cotta pre-dessert."

  • "This is a beautiful restaurant in the restored Vanderbilt mansion on the Condado. The decor is elegant with wonderful ocean views. We were there on weekday for late lunch. The ravioli and gemelli pasta appetizers were fabulous. We both had fish, the branzino and sea bass were fresh and wonderfully prepared. Attentive and warm service."

  • "We enjoyed several of the outstanding top restaurants in PR on this recent trip, but 1919 was in a class by itself. We had a 6 course menu with wine this evening. The courses were not only interestingness to content, but superbly executed. The wine pairings were spot on. As for the service, it was friendly, professional and genuinely engaged in making the evening special."

  • "The food was excellent, the staff were tentative, the ambience great and the scenery spectacular. A bit pricey but worth every penny."

  • "The hotel lobby bar and decor is spectacular. The restaurant a very romantic setting. This is where expectations led to total frustration. After a nice glass of Champagne and cocktail to start, we decided on the tasting menu. The tuna starter was great...then we went completely downhill from there. Every single dish we both had was it seemed drenched in salt. A couple of them we could not even finish. I ordered the Veal Chop which turned out to be a small medallion...also extra salty and uneatable. The restaurant did make an effort after we complained and took a small 25% discount off the food check without remorse whatsoever. Needless to say, we will return to this beautiful hotel to have a cocktail at the bar...and then go dine elsewhere."

  • "We were very pleasantly surprised when we walked into 1919. We were there at night so couldn't see the view, but it is a beautiful restaurant. The service was excellent without being snooty. The wine steward was terrific -- good sense of humor and good choices of wines. The grilled octopus appetizer was fantastic. The ravioli second course literally melted in my mouth. The sea bass was great as well. I particularly appreciated the portion size -- I did not feel full, but was satisfied. The Valrhona chocolate dessert was so good, I wanted to lick my plate. Not cheap, but an experience well worth the price."

  • ""We had the prix fixe lunch. I have to say it would take less that five fingers to count the restaurants that have met my expectations as 1919 did. Starting with a beautiful setting, a professional waiter and an ocean view. The flavors were interesting, complex and deep. Every bite was like sipping and dwelling on a great fine wine. Although I've thought about coming to this restaurant in the last two years this was my first visit and we'll be back again this week.""

  • "We came to 1919 on recommendation by a friend; and what a recommendation! The ambiance was exquisite. The service was superb...flawless. We were seated at an amazing table and browsed the extensive wine list; opting for the Duckhorn Vineyards sauvignon blanc which was refreshing, smooth-textured and paired beautifully with our food selection. We started with the roasted octopus and tuna tartar; both phenomenal. We both had the sea bass over a pistou of summer vegetables; the sea bass was delectable. For desert, we had the chocolate decadence and molten flourless cake - words cannot describe...they were extraordinary! Excellent dining experience in Puerto Rico!"

  • "the old world charm of the dining room setting in the Condado Vanderbilt hotel (an Arte Moderne gem) is a great setting for the new age magic that the chef performs in the kitchen. Sourcing incredibly fresh and tasty ingredients and transforming them into a tasting menu that impresses as much as the surrounding furnishings and art."

  • "Excellent presentation and taste. Great local ingredients married with classical preparations. Some deconstructed finds. Soothing ambiance great for groups or romantic getaway. Classical fine decor. Some meat terms a bit off though. One of our party had second course brought late. Vanderbilt Hotel is gorgeous. Great bar in the lobby with good cocktails but no people. Will obviously get a lot better once the hotel opens. Definitely go for the pre fixe menu."

  • "The food at 1919 is excellent. The pairing of tastes are outstanding. This is the second time we have been to this restaurant and both times the dining expirence was by far one of the better restaurants we have eaten at."

  • "I couldn't think of a better place to dine for my 40th birthday. This was hands down our best dining experience while visiting Puerto Rico. Exquisite is an understatement. Every little detail from the welcome when we arrived, the service, atmosphere, menu, and overall dining experience was top notch. We were delighted with the prix fixe menu choices and believed everything was cooked to perfection. I especially like the idea that the restaurant focuses on using local and organic foods. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an amazing dining experience. Special thanks to our Captain, Eduardo, who provided excellent service throughout the evening and our compliments to the chef."

  • "1919 Restaurant was a memorable and magical dining experience that we are still dreaming about. We opted for chef's choice with wine pairings and each offering was spectacular, from the tomato and gazpacho waters to the foie gras truffle to the venison to the . . . well, to everything. Thanks to Eduardo and Chef Cuevas and their staff for a fabulous evening. The entire experience--food, wine, service, ambiance--was perfect. Can't wait to return!"
