Everything was spectacular. We went on a Saturday evening, in the off season, at 7:00 PM. We were among the first diners, apparently it is a later crowd as the restaurant filled up later. The service was excellent, and the good even better. We had Chef's Table, where the Chef selects the courses, and each course better than the last. My only reservation, is that it is pricey, particularly the wine list. We were celebrating a birthday, which was nicely noted by the staff, but not at all garish. A very classy establishment!

Once this hotel is running, it will be great. Now a bit in transition (throughout lunch you could distinctly hear construction). Food was excellent. I must distinguish my service rating, which is an amalgam of 2 separate experiences. Ivan our lunch server was outstanding. However, we previously had a dinner reservation and were not allowed in because one of our party had on ankle length "coolots" (eg linen pants) and we were (rudely) informed by the manager they had a "strict" dress code. When I asked what is was (all I saw on open table was "business casual"), he could not articulate it (ie no short, coat & tie) & said flippantly 'look at the website". No one was in the restaurant at the time. His rudeness almost made us not come back.

I've been wanting to go to 1919 for some time, finally had the opportunity to have a small business dinner there last week. What a great atmosphere! The food was very good, not a culinary leap of faith, but solid, safe, well balanced menu. The wine pairings with the fixed menu was a good option, I had some fabulous pairings suggested by the sommelier. The price is steep, but if your on an expense budget, you will impress your clients here! I will definitely come back.

Our appetizers were very good and I guess they forgot about our main courses. We waited 45 minutes for them to finally arrive and they were awful. Fortunately, they recooked them and they were acceptable. The ordeal made for a bad experience. I think this is a fine restaurant, but they if they don't pay attention to you, you can get poor quality.

Restaurant is defintely top notch. Food as well as service was outstanding. We tried the tasting menu here, and were pleasantly surprised at how great each course was, from beginning to end. The complex flavors, as well as the presentation were outstanding. Many restaurants in PR claim to have great Chef's, but this restaurant is one of the few, Marmalade being another that actual provide outstanding cuisine made by what I consider World Class Top Chef's. This is a definite not to be missed restaurant, for an enjoyable, memorable nite out.

We had a wonderful time on both our visits here. If you can, request Luis to serve you as I have never had a more attentive waiter in my life, though all of the waiters involved were excellent. The water waiter (I didn't see his name) was just lovely also. It's a good price for amazing food, the dessert is it's only real disappointment but after the beginning courses you can forgive them this! Cannot wait for the hotel to open!

After hearing that it was a truly amazing place, we were excited about a great night out for dinner. We were informed that they have strict dress code. Our experience was unfortunately very bad. The food was just horrible and not what you'd expect from fine dinning. The captains were busyily conversing with each other very loudly infact instead of checking in with us even once. What a waste of an otherwise beautiful place. They need a better chef and training to staff re service.

Everything was great until we got the bill to find out that the "fixed price dinner" was not really a fixed price. The server should advise customers when they order the $70 per person fixed price menu, that there are additional charges depending on the items you choose. If it was not for that, I would have given a 5 star rating.

We have been to 1919 a few times and the food is always excellent. This time I had the salmon. It was mouth-watering cooked slowly and served in a delicate vegetable broth with crunchy vegetables. Absolute perfection! My husband's celery root and pumpkin soup was also delicious. The place in beautiful and the service is one of the best in San Juan. I highly recommend it!

I had made my reservation in advanced, to find that I had to wait 30 minutes for my table. The food was consistently good. However it was not amazing. Dessert was amazing I had a coffee tiramisu that I would go back to. I love intense, pronounced flavors and this dish had just that. Service was very good,I found their wine list presentation on the Ipad, very cool. Did not like that the serves spoke amongst each other and I could hear them discussing various table status. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant, the decoration is very impressive. Over all it was very good.

Can't believe that this restaurant is in a hotel that will not open until December 2014. This was wonderful. The food was great. Very easy to walk to from our hotel. This would have been a five star rating with one exception. After the after the last course before dessert, they forgot about us. Many different people had waited on us during the meal to the point that I really could not identify who was our primary waiter. After waiting ~30 minutes, I finally caught one of the men's attention with just an upturned wave of the hand, which implied "what about us". Then the good service started again. It was obvious that we had been dropped. The dessert was great. We took the four course meal for $75 each and the drinks were pricey.

Great menu selection. We chose the tasting menu and didn't go wrong with any of our choices. Restaurant was only about half full, so just enough to give some atmosphere without being too noisy. Service was very nice...left us to enjoy our dinner, but always right there if we needed them. The restaurant is in the Vanderbilt hotel...great pre-dinner cocktails. Rooms in the hotel won't be available for a few more months....the restaurant will really be busy then, I expect.

Who would have thought that the worlds next great restaurant would be in San Juan! With food that evoked memories of having dined at Robuchon, Daniel and Le Bernadin and set in, quite simply one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been in, 1919 is MUST for any foodies! When Chef Cuevas found out that we had been to a restaurant he had been at, he was kind enough to send out a complimentary course for us, which was salmon. Sadly neither my husband nor myself like salmon but we did not want to be rude so we tasted fish...and went on to devour it, it was simply amazing! Don't miss this place everything about it was dining perfection!!! Note, there is a dress code which we did not see on the website but fortunately they let us in.

This restaurant is absolutely beautiful. The ambiance is perfect; the food and service however are a huge disappointment. Our appetizers were mediocre at best. The fish served was decent but at least in one case overcooked. The wagyu beef is disgraceful. For close to $50.00 I was given two minuscule chunks of meat. At most they consisted of three bites. One was a piece of tough tenderloin. The purported wagyu was an overcooked morsel a beef that tasted more like pot roast. This restaurant will not be able to ride on its ambiance. The food is simply not that good and the service was inattentive and slow.

I can not express how blown away my family was as we were very pleasantly surprised and wowed after each and every meal! The service was also impeccable, from the amazing wait staff to the fact that they greeted us upon arrival and had our cars waiting when we left without us telling them which were ours. Top 5 best meals in my life (just skip the cheese plate).

The menu of organic food looked and tasted amazing. We took our 3 year old (with an iPad and headphones as it was a bit quiet) and they were very accommodating. They rushed an order of pasta with butter and plain salmon for her. They also had the best bread which our daughter was happy to keep snacking on as we dined. The mojito was really tasty and the wine was lovely. The ocean view was beautiful. It is pricey but worth it.

We found this restaurant by accident, when looking for a cigar lounge. 1919 is located in the soon-to-be Condado Vanderbuilt Hotel which should open in late 2014. This restaurant was the most elegant restaurant in San Juan that we ate at. Service was fantastic. Food was incredible. The Tuna appetizer was amazing. They scored in all aspects of a successful restaurant! A well balanced menu with fish and meat and portions that support the 4 course price fixed menu, if you choose. We left feeling that this was the best meal we had in San Juan.

This place is gorgeous. It has great history and bone structure. The service is impeccable but the food is very uneven and at the moment not worth the significant investment. My date and I did the price fix four course and the appetizers and desserts were good and inventive. I had a cold sautéed eggplant with clams dish that was quite good. The pasta and main courses were much less impressive though. Pasta was over salted and undercooked (no, that's not al dente) and the main course was a forgettable undercooked veal chop that wasn't advertised as boneless. It's going to get better I think but at the moment, call back the Commodore for some help!
