I was not quite sure what to expect in the middle of one of the most visited tourist areas on the East Coast and was pleasantly surprised, all the food from the salads to entrees to the dessert were not only superbly prepared, but also presentation was artful. this restaurant is only open two evenings a week in the summer, but it is worth the effort to get in there.

My friend Judy and I enjoyed another great late lunch at Longwood Garden's 1906 Restaurant prior to seeing the Jackie Evancho concert hosted there last Thursday evening. Meals at 1906 are consistently delicious and I always look forward to savoring their famous mushroom soup. Whether I order from their regular menu or one of the chef's special creations for that day, I am never disappointed. Service is excellent, lovely atmosphere, serene & private outside patio surrounded by the beauty of Longwood Gardens, full bar with varied wine list. 10% discount to Longwood Gardens' members.

Went to Longwood with my family for my BD. After reading of reviews at 1906 I expected place to be good, but it significantly exceeded my expectations. Food was great (and plenty!), service wonderful, I truly enjoyed myself (and my crab-cakes!). Extremely fresh, very delicious. Much to choose from in variety of prices. Would definitely recommend to any of my friends, if in area. Would go again with another occasion.

If you plan to go to Longwood, enhance your visit to 1906. While it's more expensive than the cafeteria it certainly is more enjoyable to sit at a very comfortable, white table cloth restaurant and have a very fine lunch or dinner. Enjoy their "signature" mushroom soup. The menu is varied enough to satisfy every appetite (and budget) while surrounded by sheer luxury. The service is professional. Whenever we go to Longwood, 1906 is a must!

This is a perfect way to end your day at Longwood Gardens. It is also the perfect place to eat before a concert at the gardens. The staff is friendly and attentive . It is fine dining at it's best. We always look forward to dining here. The restaurant goes perfect with the ambience of the whole package of What Longwood Gardens stands for in its concept . It is taking a beautiful restaurant and placing it in a treehouse atmosphere. It is a great date night or small group gathering

Longwood Gardens is my favorite place in the world, but then I have not traveled but for a few states. I have been coming here since i was 13, in 1963,long before there was a place other than the picnic area to eat. At long last there are now three places to eat. I have eaten in the Café many times, but only twice in 1906. I love that you can reserve online. EVERYONE, from the hostess to the servers are so professional. I love that they Smile back too. My husband is new to the Gardens & when i can take him away from his work, it is always to a very special place where we can enjoy Special Memories together. He loved 1906 also. Ashley was great as our waitress. Kudos to the menu & the chefs. I am hoping to return often. Thank You.

Three of us ate in the dining room and still enjoyed nature's beauty through the large windows. We each ordered a different entrée. My halibut was superb, my husband's pork chop was excellent, and our guest raved about her shrimp dish. She has a serious allergy to garlic and basil and usually gets rather bland versions of whatever she orders. She kept commenting about how pleased she was to have a tasty dinner despite her dietary restrictions. Our server, Iva, was delightful. She knew the menu well and offered several helpful suggestions. We have eaten before in Longwood's 1906 restaurant. This time was our best experience yet!

Attention to detail is well noted in every aspect of our lunches. Service was very professional and attentive. Brioche baked in a small flower pot was warm, with sweet creamy butter welcomed us. Amuse-Bouche was a baked tomato tart with aioli, a tasty bite of the season. Appetizer was the mushroom soup, a creamy puree with lots of mushrooms. I appreciated that it was seasoned perfectly, not overly salty. Main courses selected were the Organic Farm Salad and Prime Sirloin Burger. A side order of crispy portabello mushrooms complimented our meals. No dessert because we were simply too full! Everything was cooked perfectly and portions were generous. We are looking forward to returning soon for dinner.

It is not often that I can not think of anything that would have improved our experience. Our lunch at 1906 met everything we could have wanted. Perfect weather 70 degrees and sunny (and this is August) table outside on the corner rail with a wonderful view of nature. Appetite enhanced by a wonderful walk through the Gardens and the Meadow. Food skillfully prepared, artistically presented and cleverly garnished. You should experience what they do with the heirloom tomatoes! I was concerned that the salmon portion would be too large for lunch and it was JUST RIGHT. Pace allowed us to be leisurely and enjoy every morsel and moment. Service not intrusive but efficient and professional. It could not have been improved upon.

I have had lunch here many times. Although the menu is very limited, I always find several things that sound intriguing. I've never been disappointed. Portions for the different dishes vary. My eggplant panini was huge. I could not finish it and it came with chips and a small salad. My friend order the small portion of scallops (3) and basically...that's what she got...3 scallops and a very small bit of a salad...looked to be more of a garnish. These were from the entree part of the menu... not appetizer. My mom got 3 fried oysters with chicken salad...from the appetizer menu...a huge portion of chicken salad and nice sized oysters, more than enough for lunch. We all agreed though, everything was outstanding.

Top quality ingredients, many from the gardens and then locally sourced. I specially requested the flower pot dessert, which was a huge hit at our table. So clever! 1906 is a hidden gem. Tucked in the grounds of Longwood Gardens, it offers delicious food, made with local foods and produce grown on the grounds. Visually, the meals are pleasing, but the flavors are outstanding. The views from the dining room or sitting on the deck are soothing and peaceful. The best news for chocolate lovers is the Flower Pot dessert - served in an edible clay pot, the chocolate "dirt" melts in your mouth. We have decided to make this restaurant a destination for special occasions not just as a pre-theatre meal.

Hello! We celebrated a reunion of friends from the US and Canada at 1906 on Saturday 8/1/2014. Several of our friends had not been to the Gardens; we are members. We had a fantastic lunch and were able to relax a bit between our garden outings. The food, preparation with local sources, presentation and atmosphere are unmatched. The service is top notch, while your staff is friendly and approachable. We will be returning to 1906 for special occasions (or a treat after a Garden tour!) very soon. Thank you so much!
