This was a 75th birthday dinner for my uncle so I wanted it to be special. It was and he really enjoyed the meal and the whole experience. I couldn't afford to come here regularly but to celebrate someone who has worked so hard all his life, this was perfect. He had the pork chop, pear salad, chocolate and sorbet dessert and inhaled all of it. It was relaxing and quiet and we were able to talk quietly without having to raise our voices. The service was excellent and respectful. I didn't want a 'happy birthday' scene (though there was one at another table with singing, etc) so I didn't say anything to the staff. The quiet atmosphere and wonderful food was celebration enough. Bravo to the local farmers and chef.

This was our first time dining at 1906 and it was excellent. After visiting the gardens, we stopped for lunch. First, they give you a little cup of broth which was very good. The mushroom soup is to die for! The cheese plate is good with a variety of cheeses. We both got the salmon with apple salad which was excellent. From the maitre 'd to the server, the service was top notch. We highly recommend the restaurant.

My husband and I had a wonderful lunch experience at 1906. The service was pleasant and efficient. I rarely have a cocktail with lunch, but the signature cocktail did not disappoint. The soups were hot and topped off with the right amount of garnish. My husband had the portabella panini and I had crab cakes. Both were delicious, and the crab cakes were perfectly seasoned had no fiery after taste. The desserts were ok, but not on par with the rest of the meal. For those who have been to 1906 before, they no longer serve the flower pot dessert because it is too labor intensive.

We were looking for something special for our UK friends' brief visit while passing through. Had not been to eat here for some time but it was a beautiful day to walk through the gardens. We were delighted with a lovely meal...the men had burgers. My friend had the omelet and I had the portobello mushroom panini...all were prepared perfectly and we also were treated to a special chef's treat! We noticed that there were larger entrees on the menu and will no doubt return to sample more! I think our British friends were impressed!

We go to 1906 on birthdays and for our anniversary every year. The service is second to none and the hostess always remembers us which is amazing considering the number of guests they have every day. We sat outside in the screened in patio which was lovely because the weather was spectacular. We ordered the cauliflower soup (a departure from our usual mushroom soup which is delicious) and it was perfect. My husband had the trout which was perfectly prepared and very fresh. I had the crab cakes and as always, they were delicious. We mentioned it was our anniversary and when they brought our dessert "Happy Anniversary" was spelled out in chocolate on my husband's pecan dessert plate. Everything was perfect!

What could be said about this place that hasn't been said? It is magnificent!!! Everything about it is first class!!the food is remarkable, innovative, beautifully plated and mostly local. Our server was delightful, well acquainted with the menu, the ingredients and preparation; he was accommodating and seemed to anticipate every wish. He seemed to be always at our service, even though the place was very busy.We sat inside but of course, there is seating outside...our view was very pleasant and interesting. It is a bit on the pricey side BUT I think this is a classic "you get what you pay for" and it was worth every penny!!! Wish it were closer, I would become a regular; still I am planning my next visit in the not so distant future!

Thank you for bringing such pleasure to my family members and friends that I bring there

My sister and I had lunch at 1906 last Saturday and, while the food was excellent, the service was - shall we say? - leisurely. We shared a delicious seasonal salad, which the kitchen divided for us and plated beautifully. Our entrees were equally well-presented and tasty. But we skipped dessert because it had taken 1-1/2 hours for just those two courses. And we were at Longwood to spend time in the gardens, not the dining room. I don't know if our server was taking care of too many tables or if she just gave priority to larger parties, but our pleasure in the meal was diminished by our long wait for entrees and the time it took her to give us a dessert menu. A pity - this would have been a 5-star review had the service been better.

Everything was positively wonderful. Everything: the dinner roll baked and served in a ceramic dish, the perfectly salted butter it was served with, the local cheeses we tried on a board made by a local man from a tree fallen in the gardens to the chicken salad and salmon we had for lunch...it was all perfect.

There is only a café with very long lines. But to my surprise the first impression was wonderful as soon as u sit down there are these giant popovers in a cup that were wonderful. I would highly recommend it. My grandson was the only child there but it was fine

fantastic meal - excellent service. my mother talked about the roasted eggplant paninni for days. and the zuchinni roulades are incredible. I thought my glass of local wine at $13 was a bit steep - but everything else was worth every penny. I was visiting the gardens from Detroit - I hope to make this a repeat destination.

We were a party of 8 that included 2 (well behaved) children (6 and 8). I think 1906 is meant for adults as singles, pairs or quartets but the staff was gracious to us. As a family, all ages and mobility, we wanted to visit Longwood together, and have a nice lunch (there was a birthday as well). We were treated as welcome 'regulars' not as a problem. (Smiles all around.) And everyone enjoyed their menu choices--Mushroom soup was outstanding; a Pasta special with mushroom and sausage was a hit for 2 guests. And 2 other guests said that their beef burger was exceptional. Impressed by their locally sourced ingredients too.

Very quiet day, almost empty restaurant. Our server did a very nice job with her service, and was very helpful handling questions about the food. Wife started with the Chilled Cucumber Soup with Local Yoghurt. It was tasty indeed, quite minty but it was very good. Followed by the smaller portion of Seared Scallops which were quite good also. I had the Salmon again and it may have been even better than I remembered. So, we were very pleased. Now the rest of the story. This is an expensive restaurant and some of the portions are small. Beautiful food, tasty, very little of it. Maybe not for everyone. We were enjoying the Gardens for the day so we were satisfied to not be too full to enjoy walking.

This is probably our sixth time dining in 1906. It requires a drive of 90 minutes to get there and yet it is so worth it. The quiet ambience, service, and superb food offerings are up there with the best. We've experienced wonderful blends of flavors which have left us smiling in delight and surprise. Not an inexpensive dining place but so worth the expense. Please try it for yourself and I'd bet you'll be convinced.

Very observant, but not intrusive wait staff. Positive, energetic ambiance. Food was excellent - taste, presentation, texture/taste combination. Although I thought we might have overstayed our table, the staff gave us no indication of this. We met some out of town friends here for brunch and to walk a bit of the gardens. The brunch exceeded my expectations of food quality, staff, and environment. Truly a gem in the area. I had expected the brunch to be overpriced, but the reality of it was reasonable - the fixe prix menu.
