Diner Reviews
  • "The mushroom soup was outstanding! We both ordered the sirloin which was cooked perfectly and the small sample of herb tea and a scone which was provided was a very nice touch. On the negative side, the menu was a bit limited and it was a bit on the pricy side. I think next time we may try the buffet in the café."

  • "The halibut was a bit dry. Not what I expect from 1906. However, great atmosphere and convenient for for Brandywiners dinner."

  • "We enjoyed a delightful morning at Longwood Gardens followed by an equally delightful lunch at 1906. The menu offered interesting and varied selections and the setting was pleasant and relaxing. The service was helpful, and efficient without making us feel rushed and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend 1906 either before or after a stroll through the lovely Longwood Gardens."

  • "The 1906 Restaurant is always a highlight of my visits to Longwood Garden. This is one of my favorite places to dine with my guests--particularly, for special occasions. The food is consistently excellent, the presentation is consistently excellent, the service is consistently excellent, and the setting is excellent. And, it's fun."

  • "My friend and I spent the day at Longwood Gardens...it was perfect. Dining here for lunch just added to our overall experience. The food was outstanding! We had delicious bread served in a flower pot and enjoyed our mushroom soup immensely. I had eggplant panini and my friend had the burger. Both were delicious. Too full for dessert but enjoyed our white sangria's with our meals. If weather permits, you will want to dine on the big patio deck. It was Lovely! Looking forward to dining here again next time. The staff was super sweet too!"

  • "Everything was perfect and we had a great time! Food, service and the place are excellent! I recommend! Pleast note that they don't open every night for dinner."

  • "The chef does a great job of preparing food one doesn't see everyday. There is always a little touch of something that makes the dish unusual and delicious. Really enjoyed the free starting dish. The meal can be expensive, but we managed to keep the bill under $100 for two people including tip. We skipped wine with dinner and shared a salad. We both had nice deserts. Following dinner we went to the open air theater to see the show "Annie" performed by the Brandywiners. We were blessed with great weather (low humidity and about 80 degrees F ). We left Longwood Gardens that evening feeling very relaxed and extremely satisfied with our day ."

  • "We have eaten here many times. The food is always so good. I love the way they cater to the local products and the fact that they raise some of the produce on site. We had great service and were not rushed through the courses."

  • "This one will be tough for me to beat next year... as my wife told me. Between the amazing food and scenery, it was almost as though we had the entire Gardens to ourselves. Amazing experience! Unforgettable Day!"

  • "We started our tour of Longwood Gardens at 9:30 AM and ended with a lunch in the 1906 restaurant. Our meal was lovely. The high points were the special fresh bean appetizer and the chilled cucumber soup. Our waitress was wonderful and without our asking, she divided the meal that my daughter and I were sharing on to separate plates. Very classy! We were too stuffed to try the desserts and will have to wait until our next visit for that. The room was lovely with views outside. I would highly recommend 1906!"

  • "First time here(my girlfriend has never been and wanted to see fireworks)..So glad we could make a reservation. We sat on the patio and our waiter was right on top of things! From the hostess to the busser...perfect! The drinks were delicious and the food was incredible! Couldnt have asked for a better night...thank you!"

  • "Such an amazing gift to my mother, 97, who loves nature but is blind, and who used to be a master chef. All of our family, from California, Colorado, New York, and Brazil come regularly, and are able to find a peaceful, beautiful place where the scent of flowers and trees are with us everywhere. Indoors and outdoors, my mother, who is wheelchair bound now, can gently feel the petals, the leaves, the bark...and remember. Then we are able to go into one of the finest restaurants we know, and eat at our leisure, talk easily despite the size of our group, and choose to fill ourselves with incredible, perfectly made meals. Every sense is filled in just the way we love it when we visit Longwood and 1906."

  • "What a delightful way to enhance the experience while touring Longwood Gardens. The food and service were outstanding as was the presentation of the dishes. Highly recommend and it's a great way to enhance a romantic time in Longwood."

  • "The 1906 restaurant is an excellent spot for a special occasion. Service is attentive but not intrusive. The atmosphere is quiet...one can actually have a conversation in a normal tone of voice...imagine that! Needless to say the walk around Longwood is also a great way to relax and enjoy a fine summer evening. The food was very good...fine presentation and prepared as expected. It would have been ok if the steak was a tad smaller but it was prepared just right. Overall great time and excellent dinner."

  • "We loved everything about 1906, but if I could change one thing? The music playing was Jazz. I love almost all types of music, but jazz is quite irritating to those of us who don't 'get' it. Even though it was playing softly, I was so aware of it and wishing I didn't have to be listening to it."

  • "Great lunch with friends. Just wish they would have more of a selection. When visiting we always have a lunch or dinner at 1906. Service is always great and not rushing you."

  • "Best mushroom soup out there! Wait staff are pleasant and intelligent. Creative, delicious food on all my lunch and dinner visits, beautiful desserts which are thankfully not huge. Atmosphere is quiet and gentle. Outside deck in he woods is idyllic, no squirrels, no insects. If young kids are with you, there is a great cafeteria. Iif you are all older than 12 and appreciate cuisine other than burgers and fries, dine with pleasure at 1906."

  • "The setting of 1906 is perfect...nestled cozy amongst the trees. It is the loveliest restaurant with a fantastic view. We selected the cheese plate and goat cheese appetizers and both were delicious. All of our entrees were beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. The flower pot dessert is very special and was the best ending to a birthday dinner."

  • "This is a great place to have a nice lunch and dinner outside @ Longwood Gardens. We had a great day at the Gardens and this was the perfect end to the day. Great food, service and all around great time."

  • "We dined outside, unwinding after a day in the gardens. The food was better than expected, and we expected it would be excellent. Our waiter was right there when we wanted something. It was as close to perfect as a dining experience could be."

  • "We belong to Longwood Gardens so dine here fairly often. The staff is always wonderful and goes out of their way to accommodate every guest. For example I had had a special cocktail on last visit which I could not remember and our waitress ask us what date that had been and went and ask bartenders to see if they remembered. She even got a copy of the prior special cocktail list for me. This was so above and beyond my expectation but it was like a mystery hunt for her to try and figure this out for me. The food is all excellent and prepared from local growers which are listed on the menu. But you must order the fabulous chocolate pot for desert!!! The presentation is so creative and you will love it!"

  • "I love the variety and quality of food that 1906 offers. You can always count on something different and seasonal that the chef has created. You can also always count on regional based foods like the best mushroom soup ever. Everything that our party of 5 had was terrific. Two of the 5 found vegan dishes that were perfect for them. I splurged and had the Flower Pot for desert, an all edible creation that is as outstanding to look at as well as to eat. I was awed by the chocolate Flower Pot, couldn't be any better!"

  • "Longwood Gardens is one of my favorite places. Sometimes I just have soup and salad in the Cafe. But there are times I want to sit down to a delectable lunch. This time we had a zucchini appetizer that was excellent. Then we shared the Farm Salad and the lunch special, Angel Hair with chunks of crab tossed in a very light cream sauce...to die for food. In all my years as a Longwood member, I have never had a bad or mediocre meal. The service is also impeccable. To walk the gardens, have a slow, leisurely lunch, then walk around some more...a perfect recipe for a perfect day. As I had gone kayaking at Marsh Creek and eaten breakfast on the lake...a lovely day."

  • "1906 provides a wonderful, soothing, and exceptional dining experience in an extraordinary setting. When a full day at the Gardens is planned, it provides a beautiful spot to stop for lunch or dinner. The panoramic view to the outdoors gives the feeling of dining in a magnificent tree house! The mushroom soup is outstanding; the scallops superb, and the blueberry lemonade a great, refreshing treat. The service is outstanding! The servers are so professional, pleasant, and knowledgeable about offerings on the menu."

We were lucky enough to dine on the patio and enjoyed a beautiful breeze. Service was perfection. Can't wait to dine here again."

  • "Reservations are a must. The most difficult part of dining is hearing the multitudes of persons being turned away while enjoying a great meal. The service is great. The food fully prepared thus no need for salt, pepper or any other condiment. The chef and staff are willing to adjust any meal to your dietary needs to the best of their ability. I had listed that it was our niece's birthday in the reservation. I also ordered a small rose (3 pink)vase for the birthday girl. Upon our arrival, the vase was on the table. When we ordered dessert, the staff decorated her ice cream plate with Happy Birthday in a chocolate syrup and a lit candle in one of the scoops of ice cream. Big Smiles!"

  • "If you don't want to waste time but have a relaxing meal then this is a good choice. The food is acceptable and the room is certainly more quiet than the cafe. There are much better restaurants for the price close by if you are willing to go out of Longwood and come back."
