So goodWe went here for Mothers Day brunch. We shared several small plates. Everything was very good. The fried chicken with waffles was the best! I liked the comfort of the place in general. Good location for us too.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Mother's Day BrunchIntriguing decor and layout, wonderful service and great food. The special ala carte brunch menu was creative and the dishes we had were superb. I would definately go back for their usual dinner service.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat farm-to-table restaurant! The food is fantastic and the wine and drinks are even better. One member of our party tried the absinthe service which was an event, in and of itself.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food....sub par bar serviceWe have eaten at 1833 several times. Each time, including this occasion, the food and service once seated is exceptional. However, we arrived 25 minutes early to enjoy a drink and relax outside near the open fire pits...which create a nice atmosphere. I checked in our dinner party of five and asked for drink service outside which I was assured they would be right with us. We waited ten minutes before one of the staff looked out and realized we had no service. When the server came, she was not very helpful...just wanted to take our order and turn it in. We then waited another five minutes for our drinks, during which time another waiter came out and asked to take our order...not realizing it had already been placed.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExtremely well prepared andExtremely well prepared and presented seasonal food with an excellent wait staff and creative cuisine5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in areaWe had a birthday dinner with a party of 8, were given a private room and Brian, who is an exceptional waiter and made this a perfect evening including providing many laughs and trivia notes. Food was all tasty and well prepared. VG wine list too.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerWhen I made reservations, I noted that it was our anniversary. Nobody mentioned anything when we came in but we felt like we were given great consideration! We were seated at a fairly private table at the end of the balcony. We could hear the bar below which we enjoyed but had no issue hearing each other. Between our appetizer and entrees, "compliments of the chef" we had a strawberry gazpacho. Beautiful and delicious. I had the duck breast; my husband the pork loin. Every bite was surprisingly delicious! As if I had forgotten how good it was from the previous bite. Then we had dessert. I got the absinthe, which I had only heard about - Fantastic. My husband got Bourbon Pudding with "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate. They did know!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable anniversary! My girlfriend and I visited 1833 to celebrate our one year anniversary and from the moment we walked up to the front door, the staff of 1833 made us feel welcome. There were two gentlemen at the door who greeted us with smiles and held the door open for us, and once we were seated we were immediately asked what kind of water we would like. Our waiter was nothing short of spectacular, from recommending starters and drinks to asking and congratulating us about our special event. We even got a sweet 'Happy Anniversary' note on our dessert plates! There is not a single thing I can complain about, and we will definitely be visiting 1833 again very soon!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the atmosphere and foodThis is a one-of-a-kind restaurant. I absolutely love the vintage, haunting decor. Service is wonderful, and they were nothing but accommodating to my gluten/dairy food sensitivities. I totally understand what it's like since I used to cook in restaurants in my former grain/dairy eating days. Rib-eye was AWESOME!.Service were very well-informed of the menu and ingredients, and they actually know what gluten is. :) Loved our experience so much, we came here twice on our 2 day getaway from the Bay Area.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful experience. TheWonderful experience. The food was amazing, they accommodated my celiac disease preparing everything we ordered gluten free. We had an a fun absinthe experience and then moved into the bar for great music with a DJ. A very special restaurant.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an amazing meal here.We had an amazing meal here. Beautiful place, delicious food, and great service.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI Would Definitely Return!!Our experience at at 1833 was excellent. For starters, the building & the decor are beautiful. This space has a great design team behind it with a great eye. Then the service kicked in and we were treated very well from the person who greeted us to our servers to the person who showed us out the door. Our meals were no exception as we all enjoyed something different & unique but delicious & sophisticated. No wonder this is a hot spot..they have everything covered.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFun! DJ started up at 10:00 so it was a little loud but that didn't bother us. Overall outstanding.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AM14th anniversary and was not14th anniversary and was not disappointed. Food was an adventure at every turn - the wine was downright spectacular and the mixed drinks are not to be missed. Be bold and go with bartenders choice.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, outstanding service,Great food, outstanding service, neat building and decorations but we were seated on the balcony right above the bar and it was soooo noisy! People were have an awesome time which is great but it made it hard for us to have a conversation4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely food, lovely staff,Lovely food, lovely staff, amazing ambiance and such a beautiful location! I will definitely be back!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ExperienceOverall great experience, would recommend to friends & family. Service was friendly, food was amazing.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA perfect evening.Awesome, Awesome, Awesome. I wished I remembered our servers name, but he was a true pro. We had the marrow bones, the hamachi and the tartar to start. The wild mushroom with soft poached egg pizza was our "pasta" course (they were sold out of the gnocchi w wild boar ragu) and then we were dazzled with the salt crusted dorado and their truffled whole chicken.
We really had a fantastic dinner and a wonderful experience. I have recommended to others already and would go back in a heart beat.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe bar is great fun to enjoyThe bar is great fun to enjoy one of their Creative Cocktails while waiting to be seated. Order their Bacon-Cheddar biscuits with the Maple-Chipotle butter-- amazing (and I don't even like biscuits.) The menu changes, but if they have the Branzini fish, then get it. Layers and layers of flavors like tamarind gastriqe and wasabi foam. Great wine list and good wines by the glass. Enjoyed the Baked Alaska. Be sure to get reservations as this place is hopping and busy. This summer, I look forward to reserving a terrace area to sit by the fire pit and nosh on apps and cocktails. Will return, for sure.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI fell upon 1833 accidentallyI fell upon 1833 accidentally and stopped to go in. The manager immediately took me on a tour of this history filled setting. That was when it first opened and I have been visiting ever since. We sat at the bar this time and had dinner. It was Saturday night and very lively. The service including the hostess was great and so was the food. Love this place!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMStandout in a food-poor townIn a town not known for food, the care and attention stand out. The house vibe seems to favor sweet-- noticeable in the cocktails-- whereas I'm a savory girl. I was unimpressed with the salads; however, the gnocchi was exceptional. A vivacious night place-- if you're in Monterey, highly recommended.
On another note, what is it with Monterey-Carmel? I remain unimpressed with the poor food quality. This despite surrounding dairies, farms, etc. Good food here should be easy to find. It was all meh compared with the Central Coast (eg Full of life in Alamos). You guys can do better.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFried Chicken SundayA group of us went for the Sunday fried chicken dinner. Everything was pretty excellent.
It's a little too noisy for a large group and my only complaint was that we weren't seated at a round table because we really couldn't hear anyone except the persons right next to us. The mashed potatoes while tasty are kind of oddly runny looking which was just a little off-putting but overall we liked everything. It's a good thing they didn't bring more than one deviled egg per person because we would have gobbled them down. I always love the Penicillin #2 and probably should not have ordered the 2nd one . .
We'll likely make this a regular event as long as they keep doing the chicken dinner Sundays.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is the second time weThis is the second time we have eaten here. This time we ordered the tasting menu. We had all the choices. Everything was fabulous except the steak which was a bit ordinary though the polenta and chard sides were great.
The service has been energetic but not overbearing in any way.
We will be back.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFried chicken Sunday is amazing.Fried chicken Sunday is amazing. Very indulgent, but worth it. It takes fried chicken to another level.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWhenever we are in Monterey,Whenever we are in Monterey, we dine at 1833. This was our first visit for the Sunday night Fried Chicken Dinner, and we were not disappointed! Some of the best fried chicken I've devoured... and really generous portions. We will now rearrange our schedule to be in Monterey on Sundays!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMHope to return soon ...Went for the Sunday Fried Chicken and was not disappointed. We ordered off of the ala carte menu since the other diner with me was not a fried chicken fan. She was totally pleased with her pasta and salad. A very enjoyable evening at this fine, but unpretentious, restaurant.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome experience! My wifeAwesome experience! My wife and I were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and couldn't have been happier with the food, ambiance, and service. Would highly recommend.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat menu and drinks!Menu offers a wide variety of dishes and flavors. Great drinks and small bites. Hearty to healthy with great flavors.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on Sunday for theWe went on Sunday for the famous chicken dinner. Great value. I loved being seated in the "sun room" now that the days are getting longer. The wedge salad is superb. And do try to order the cheese biscuit appetizer if you think you can fit it in. The chicken dinner (only on Sundays) also includes individual apple pies, which are delicious. I noticed a lot of guests asked them to be bagged so they could take them home for later.
My husband also ordered a side of mashed potatoes; the spuds were really good too. Get there a half hour before your reservation and have a drink at the bar. Nice people.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AM1833 is a gem. The remodel1833 is a gem. The remodel of this historic adobe has been tastefully done, creating an intimate, beautiful setting for your special evening. The food is exceptional - and the menu varied with exciting seasonal additions and updates. Excellent service from the wait staff-attentive but unobtrusive. Beautiful bar area - great for having a drink & small plates to share as an alternative to full dinner service!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect dinner spot in old montereyWe celebrated our 3 rd anniversary here and couldn't have asked for more. From the impeccable service, perfectly timed and made courses 1833 delivered on all counts. We ordered the cheddar bacon biscuits (amazing!), gnocchi, mahi mahi, and a side of Brussels sprouts. Perfection!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMUpon the recommendation ofUpon the recommendation of close friends, my boyfriend and I decided to dine at 1833 for our 3rd year anniversary. We couldn't have picked a better place. Loved the unique ambiance and the service was awesome. We really enjoyed the experience that 1833 has for its customers.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a nice dinner at thisWe had a nice dinner at this restaurant located in a historic house. Food was good, service was attentive. We would return.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous food, great service!Fabulous food, great service! Drove from Santa Cruz just for dinner and it was totally worth the drive!!!
Ordered the pork belly, deviled eggs and bacon cheddar biscuits for appetizers, could have ordered another round and made dinner out of it, that good!
However, dinner was even better...the mahi mahi was to die for!!....so glad I was given a spoon because I did not want to leave a drop of that delicious creamy broth! Wish I would have had bread to soak up what I had to leave at the bottom of the bowl...or a straw :)
The outdoor area is beautiful, romantic and cozy...too bad it was being used for a smoking area, those sitting areas look very inviting for an after dinner drink!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall experience was good.Overall experience was good. The only negative was that both my companion and I ordered a fish entree from the menu, with no special requests, the meal's took around 40 minutes to be brought to our table. There appeared to be several groups being served around the same time, both inside and out. I would recommend avoiding dining at those times when groups are being catered to.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMTop of the line serviceI was deployed with the Army overseas and could not spend the evening with my wife for her birthday. In my absence, I called 1833 to arrange a quiet dinner at the restaraunt with her parents. The staff really came through and provided even more than what I requested. At the end of the meal, they brought out a mini birthday cake and told her it was a special order from Afghanistan - she was in tears with joy. I'm very pleased with 1833's service - I would recommend this place to any of my family and friends and look forward to having dinner there with my wife when I return.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had the Sunday night FriedWe had the Sunday night Fried Chicken Prix Fixe, and everything tasted amazing. The Brussel Sprouts and the Mac and Cheese as sides were delicious. Our only critique was that the food was very rich, and we both had upset stomachs afterwards. The Fried Chicken, while delicious, was heavily breaded and retained too much of the fat from the preparation. We look forward to trying other dishes at this restaurant as the experience overall was fantastic.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is very very good. The food is very very good. My wife had the New York Steak; I had the scallops. We also enjoyed the bacon cheddar biscuits and the beef carpaccio. they have an excellent wine list - many are the local wines of Monterey. We did go on a night of the AT&T - which made the bar and dining areas more than a bit loud. That said, we would go back at a less popular time.2/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Fried Chicken Sundays!Awesome Fried Chicken Sundays! Best Fried Chicken ever -- AND the mashed potatoes AND the gravy AND the Cheddar Bacon Biscuits AND the applie pie!
Great job to the 1833 team!1/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
