  • "This is normally one of our favorite Monterey Penninsula restaurants, elegant, hip, and amazing food. On a Saturday night of Concourse D'Elegance week they were inundated. It was so noisy it was hard to talk and our orders of the ribeye for two were barely warm and the hot plate they come on was cold. The side dishes also came out late after the entre's. Very disappointing. However, wait staff was great and apologetic, even taking the side dishes off our bill (we didn't ask for this). All in all I forgive them and we will return, but I hope they can do better with a crowded night in the future."

  • "We had a lovely dinner at 1833--We were actually surprised at how wonderful the food and service was because when we walked in we got the impression it was a "hot" spot and, often, food at "hot spots" doesn't live up to its reviews. But 1833 is both lively/sought-after AND it offers exceptionally fine dining with first-rate service. Thank you, 1833 for a fabulous meal during oh-so-busy Concours week, and for the extra attention for my husband's birthday. We'll be back!"

  • "1833 presents itself as an eclectic scene with rooms that are decorated differently throughout the restaurant. The bar was handsomely decorated and the bartender was wonderful. After leaving the bar however, the evening left much to be desired. The service was slow and after ordering a glass of wine and waiting quite a while, the waiter came with a bottle which had to be sent back for a glass of wine. It took forever to order our dinner which was the rib eye for two. We were told it would take 45 minutes to cook which was okay. It was very good. Our overall take on 1833 was fair."

  • "Unfortunately, this was not my best experience here. 1833 is one of my favorite restaurants, and I still have reservations for this Friday to go back. However, I had asked for a specific server and did not get him (this is the 2nd time this has happened). The server we had was not attentive. This was a special occasion as my Godson was going back home. I wanted to give him a great foodie experience. I've always wanted to try the Truffle chicken and was really excited that he agreed we should order it. The flavor of the skin was good, but the chicken was very dry. All the anticipation to just be disappointed. On a positive, the bacon biscuits were the best that I've had, and try the avacado with popcorn. It's yummy!"

The food was once again outstanding, short wait time to get our appetizers and food, and very prompt on refills of our drinks. The men ordered the pizza and I ordered the pork loin w/ creamy polenta. Outstanding all around. Thank you for making our night special :)"

  • "1833 is officially one of our favorite restaurants... Just too bad we live so far away. We ordered the avocado, oysters, ham wrapped in bacon, steak, and waffle dessert. While some of the combinations are unusual, they are always fun to experience. Definitely recommend the fried chicken on Sunday. The waiter was kind and walked us through the menu and suggested a great mock-tail option for me and the Shiner for my husband."

  • "We were seated in an upstairs dining room, very nice except for the soiled white upholstered chairs. We ordered a bottle of wine and the chicken liver mousse to start, wine came promptly, mousse came about 20 minutes after that. The mousse was in a small jar and came with 4 small slices of toasted baguette. We requested more toast and in 15 more minutes they brought 4 more pieces of toast. The mousse was delicious. This was followed by a duck and fig pizza and cod entrees, both ok, not great. The bill brought a surprise, we were charged for the 4 extra toasts! When we complained the manager removed the entire appetizer from the bill. If the service were improved I would give this a 4 star rating."

  • "I found this restaurant via Yelp and I couldn't be happier. The truffle chicken is worth the 1 hr wait!!! The bacon cheddar biscuits were so delicious!!!! The service was great without being snobbish and the ambiance was great. They have a gorgeous patio with fire pits that are perfect for meeting friends, having a glass of wine and some small bites. I am definitely going to do that next time. It was wonderful from start to finish."

Noise level made it a little difficult to converse with my wife, but that was more a product of the large group nearby. Definately a to do for anybody who loved watching Scooby Doo as a kid. Not to mean anything negative by that, just the place has a cool, almost spooky vibe. Would definately go back."

Beginning with very slow service, and slow to appear appetizers that were underwhelming when they arrived, we knew we were in trouble. The entrees were unimaginative, and in the of my companion's flat iron steak, woefully undercooked. Though a beautiful restaurant, they need to up their game on the food and service."

  • "My friend and I enjoyed social hour outside by the fire pits, where our server was Chelsea. My friend had a glass of red wine, and I had a sidecar. Afterwards, we were seated at a booth upstairs overlooking the bar, where our server was Trevin. There was a special Bernardus wine dinner event that evening, but we opted to order off the regular menu. We shared an order of bacon and cheddar biscuits with maple butter. For the next course, my friend had a summer vegetable salad, and I had the heirloom tomato salad. Next, we shared a duck and mission fig pizza. For dessert, my friend had a honey waffle with roasted peaches, almonds, and milk ice cream, and I had the market strawberries with whipped cream, shortbread cookies, and lavender. Yum!"

  • "Were here for 25th anniversary while visiting Monterrey. I was a bit worried when the hostess tried to seat us at a banquette seat, RIGHT beside a couple of old ladies (seriously?! wasn't even crowded) I politely asked to move to a quieter section with highback chairs & she nicely obliged. Our server Alix, was very friendly and knowledgeable, not too obtrusive. Had 5 course tasting menu, was wonderful overall: complimentary amuse bouche of green tomato shooter, yummy, biscuits, avocado (ok, but underdressed), white corn soup-to-die-for, comte ravioli yummy, beef (tasty & tender but slightly oversalted for my taste as was the kale under the ravioli a bit salty. Want to come back for more casual meal outside. Do the absinthe pyro style-FUN!"

  • "Atmospheric from the outside at night. Bone marrow dish delicious and Pork belly mini burgers starter a winner with all 4 of us. Proscuitto and egg pizza very poor: two eggs on top were not cooked properly ( egg whites translucent), pizza dough blistered and burnt in parts and excessively salty (my young adult daughtered ended up with very sore tummy that night) My Seabass was delightful and cous cous flavoured beautifully. Cod dish good too. Pizza with eggplant was also disappointing and eggplant was runny and turned dough a little soggy. Service was sub standard even for an 8.45pm Wednesday sitting (e.g.no light on table inspite of asking 2 times for it to be lit. A $260disappointment. Front of house needs attention as do Pizzas."

  • "This was an overall amazing evening. The menu was simple yet clever. We opted for the Chef's menu and added the wine pairing. Our overall experience was nearly 2 hours, but there was never a moment where we felt a lull. The food was prepared with care and talent. The wine list impressive! The restaurant is located inside of a historic house and there is much to explore! Each room brings a different vibe and meets the needs of all diners. Outdoors is adorned with fire pits for a romantic (and warm) alternative! Highly recommended!"

  • "We went to Monterey to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary and were looking for a restaurant with good food and a romantic touch. We found that at 1833, housed in an old, partly adobe house with many fire lit rooms. We were seated in a multi-windowed room, quite nice for our early dinner as we could see the pleasant grounds. Our servers were pleasant and knowledgeable about the food which was varied and included small bits, pizza and pasta as well as more usual entrees such as the halibut with a wonderful sauce that I unfortunately can't recall the ingredients. My husband enjoyed his pork loin, also with a wonderful sauce."

  • "Great food, great service, unbelievable spirits list, and refreshingly unique character all around sets 1833 well apart from the dozens of Monterey restaurants that offer the typical bistro fare, Americanized Italian, and/or uninspired seafood. Let the tourists fill the bistros that relentlessly quest after their Michelin Stars by charging $300 for a stick of butter with a truffle on top with some overpriced overrated local wine; why would you join them when just down the street you can enter this time machine, eat marrow from the bone, and wash it down with enough absinthe to make your dreams interesting. Go to 1833."
