We had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant 1833 on Sunday night to celebrate an anniversary and birthday. As always, everything was perfect. The staff was very attentive and the food was cooked to perfection. We both had the Sunday night chicken dinner and it did not disappoint us in any way. We will definitely return.

One thing that can be a bit difficult in Monterey is to find somewhere that isn't a tourist trap. If you want a unique, trendy experience this definitely is a must. Love the decor and the ambiance of the house. Food was really good, server was a bit slow but all in all I would definitely go back. Even if it is just to get a drink and sit outside by the firepits and relax in a nice quiet neighborhood away from all the tourist traps of Cannery Row.

Booked a table for my wife and I for our anniversary. The food, drinks and service were outstanding. I ordered the rockfish entrée as well as their biscuits as an appetizer. My wife ordered the sides of veggies and a tomato salad. We cannot say enough how great this was.

This restaurant should be #1 in Monterey. It's amazing; from the cocktails to the main course (didn't have room for dessert) it is truly unbelievable. We (spouse and I) got the house marinated olives with some house cocktails (mixologist), seasonal salad, Bernardus cab (wine list is ridiculous yet accommodating) and shared the truffle chicken with Mac&cheese cheese (not a typo). My spouse scolex the waiter for not telling him this was going to be the best meal if his life, lol. If you do get the chicken order it first as it takes an hour to cook, well worth the wait.

We were seated in the Gallatin Room, a single table seating 5 guests. Lovely and special. Food was outstanding, especially the avocado appetizer, the salmon, skirt steak and array of dessert tastes that we were treated to presented out of a dry ice misting doctors bag, a nod to Faux Dr. Stokes, the second owner of this historical adobe structure.

Went for our 25th anniversary. Beautiful restaurant in old adobe residence- lighting, furniture, everything very pleasing. Food was flawless and actually reasonably priced for the quality - heirloom tomato salad a surprise with added peach, wild mushroom/prosciutto pizza incredible, and everyone will write about the biscuits. The service was spectacular too, from the obvious training given our server and staff to how they lay out and replace silverware. No criticisms. Totally enjoyable.

Five of us enjoyed a delicious dinner at 1833 on Friday, August 22nd. The service was impeccable and the ambiance lively, but not noisy. The food was divine. We started with the bacon cheddar biscuits with a yummy butter ~ we could have ordered them again for dessert. We also had the shrimp starter with corn and sausage. Those were my two favorites of the evening until the caramel pot de creme for dessert. The specialty cocktails were all unique and delicious. The main plates were very fresh fish presented beautifully. It was a perfect evening in a beautiful historic building.

If you are looking for a restaurant and it's a special occasion look no further. Maybe a restaurant to impress a foodie, or just a small bite. No question, you won't go wrong here. Restaurant 1833 fits the bill. You feel as though you are dining at your favorite aunt and uncle's house; that happen to be wealthy. You're at home, relaxing and attended to by the house staff. The food is beyond any expectation; unique and amazing. Everything is farm to table fresh. The chef and staff take simple and elevate it to levels beyond. Deviled eggs, bone marrow and soft poached hen egg are delicacies served here. We ordered quite a bit of food and every dish was one we would order again. Mixologists rule here and the servers compliment your experience.

This is normally one of our favorite Monterey Penninsula restaurants, elegant, hip, and amazing food. On a Saturday night of Concourse D'Elegance week they were inundated. It was so noisy it was hard to talk and our orders of the ribeye for two were barely warm and the hot plate they come on was cold. The side dishes also came out late after the entre's. Very disappointing. However, wait staff was great and apologetic, even taking the side dishes off our bill (we didn't ask for this). All in all I forgive them and we will return, but I hope they can do better with a crowded night in the future.

We had a lovely dinner at 1833--We were actually surprised at how wonderful the food and service was because when we walked in we got the impression it was a "hot" spot and, often, food at "hot spots" doesn't live up to its reviews. But 1833 is both lively/sought-after AND it offers exceptionally fine dining with first-rate service. Thank you, 1833 for a fabulous meal during oh-so-busy Concours week, and for the extra attention for my husband's birthday. We'll be back!

1833 presents itself as an eclectic scene with rooms that are decorated differently throughout the restaurant. The bar was handsomely decorated and the bartender was wonderful. After leaving the bar however, the evening left much to be desired. The service was slow and after ordering a glass of wine and waiting quite a while, the waiter came with a bottle which had to be sent back for a glass of wine. It took forever to order our dinner which was the rib eye for two. We were told it would take 45 minutes to cook which was okay. It was very good. Our overall take on 1833 was fair.

Unfortunately, this was not my best experience here. 1833 is one of my favorite restaurants, and I still have reservations for this Friday to go back. However, I had asked for a specific server and did not get him (this is the 2nd time this has happened). The server we had was not attentive. This was a special occasion as my Godson was going back home. I wanted to give him a great foodie experience. I've always wanted to try the Truffle chicken and was really excited that he agreed we should order it. The flavor of the skin was good, but the chicken was very dry. All the anticipation to just be disappointed. On a positive, the bacon biscuits were the best that I've had, and try the avacado with popcorn. It's yummy!

1833 is officially one of our favorite restaurants... Just too bad we live so far away. We ordered the avocado, oysters, ham wrapped in bacon, steak, and waffle dessert. While some of the combinations are unusual, they are always fun to experience. Definitely recommend the fried chicken on Sunday. The waiter was kind and walked us through the menu and suggested a great mock-tail option for me and the Shiner for my husband.

We were seated in an upstairs dining room, very nice except for the soiled white upholstered chairs. We ordered a bottle of wine and the chicken liver mousse to start, wine came promptly, mousse came about 20 minutes after that. The mousse was in a small jar and came with 4 small slices of toasted baguette. We requested more toast and in 15 more minutes they brought 4 more pieces of toast. The mousse was delicious. This was followed by a duck and fig pizza and cod entrees, both ok, not great. The bill brought a surprise, we were charged for the 4 extra toasts! When we complained the manager removed the entire appetizer from the bill. If the service were improved I would give this a 4 star rating.

Wait staff was very nice. The whole place was very intriguing. What character! Food was excellent. Noise level made it a little difficult to converse with my wife, but that was more a product of the large group nearby. Definately a to do for anybody who loved watching Scooby Doo as a kid. Not to mean anything negative by that, just the place has a cool, almost spooky vibe. Would definately go back.

Restaurant 1833 has been my go to restaurant when traveling through monterey for several years. I could take my wife, a client, or friend and they were always impressed with the food, setting and service. Didn't matter if it was the crush of car week or a quiet off-peak night, 1833 always delivered... but lately not so much. May be time for the chef to shake things up and reimagine the menu. The food and service have suffered lately, and I'm not the only one who mentioned it on this latest trip to Monterey - Service was painfully slow - Table was not ready at the time of reservation Overall 1833 is still a great place for drinks and bar food but the dinner menu needs a rethink. Everyone in our party agreed the dishes were average at best.

After reading other reviews, we thought this would be a good choice to try something new. Beginning with very slow service, and slow to appear appetizers that were underwhelming when they arrived, we knew we were in trouble. The entrees were unimaginative, and in the of my companion's flat iron steak, woefully undercooked. Though a beautiful restaurant, they need to up their game on the food and service.

My friend and I enjoyed social hour outside by the fire pits, where our server was Chelsea. My friend had a glass of red wine, and I had a sidecar. Afterwards, we were seated at a booth upstairs overlooking the bar, where our server was Trevin. There was a special Bernardus wine dinner event that evening, but we opted to order off the regular menu. We shared an order of bacon and cheddar biscuits with maple butter. For the next course, my friend had a summer vegetable salad, and I had the heirloom tomato salad. Next, we shared a duck and mission fig pizza. For dessert, my friend had a honey waffle with roasted peaches, almonds, and milk ice cream, and I had the market strawberries with whipped cream, shortbread cookies, and lavender. Yum!
