Diner Reviews
  • "I was very impressed with the food at 1808 Grille. For a busy Easter brunch, there was variety, freshness, and a little something for everyone. We loved the smoothie shooters. It was a nice surprise and delicious. Mango passion fruit was the best. Smoked salmon was delicious. We loved the variety of desserts and the presentation. The only issue we had was the service, which was sporadic at best. My major issue was with the 20% mandatory tip, which was excessive given the buffet nature of the brunch. We did not order from the bar, nor were we informed of the mandatory charge when we were called to confirm and told how much the buffet was. This will certainly factor into our decision about whether to return or not to 1808 Grille. "

  • "Our food was fantastic. We loved our waiter even though it took him a long time to take our drink orders. "

  • "Staff is very attentive and pleasant if you give them a chance. Seemed like lots of folks were in a rush so they probably wouldn't care or notice. Brandade app was like fish hush puppies or croquettes. Definitely fishy tasting - not bad, but you should know. Sriracha sauce was a nice compliment. Tuna tartare was excellent - very light with nice flavor overall. Lastly, we had the butternut squash soup - squash pie on a bowl! This is a seasonal offering, which. is too bad, cause it was delicious. Would we go back? Absolutely There's enough left on the menu to try even before you get to the big plates."

  • "The food was good and rather eclectic, but the menu is so limited I don't think I would go back. Ask about the chef choice of sides before you go. They come with the meal and if you don't like them, you're screwed. The short ribs and trout are good--get the chili sauce on the side."

  • "The service was slow but the food was good. The scallops were excellent....once we finally got them!"

  • "Scallops were very good but not warm. Steak, wine and service were outstanding! Dessert was delish!"

  • "1808 has some tasty gluten free options and our server was also gluten free which was very helpful and reassuring."

  • "With a changing menu this is a place you can always find a treasure. The attention to detail is always impressive. The entire staff is attentive but not to interruptive. A great place for that special occasion."

  • "Excellent menu, something for everyone, including vegetarian and gluten-free. Both appetizers (Tuna Tartare and Sorghum Pancake) were beautifully presented and delicious. All 4 people in our party immensely enjoyed main courses and impressive presentations. Unique selection of desserts were the perfect end to a wonderful meal."

  • "This was our second time here. The food was great, but we forgot about the three complimentary sides. All were terrific, but we were stuffed by dessert time. Excellent service! The furniture is very comfy and the staff is very accommodating."

  • "Great hospitality and service, delightful food, and wonderful atmosphere for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Would highly recommend both restaurant and hotel at 1808."

  • "Parking was a challenge. The restaurant building and interior were not impressive. But, the food was great and the service better. So, we would recommend this spot to anyone who is looking for good food but not necessarily to impress someone with ambience. The almond crusted trout was very good. If we go back to Nashville, I think we would return to this little restaurant."

  • "The appetizers, soups, and entrees were truly amazing across the table. Melt-in-your-mouth amazing. But the desserts fell a little short. They weren't terrible, just mediocre. I highly recommend this restaurant for every other part of the meal. But if you want dessert, maybe head out to another spot."

  • "Excellent food and presentation. Experienced bar and wait staff. We were there on a Saturday evening and were seating at the time of our reservation. However, do not go if you are in a hurry for dinner. Will be back to see Chef Charles again for sure."

  • "The food was bland but pretty. The "complimentary" sides were lazy in design and in plating."

  • "Picked 1808 from a guide book. Excellent staff, atmosphere, and food. Moderately priced, so everyone can enjoy the experience."

  • "My friend's food was cold when she received it. Food was "ok" - comparable to other resturants. Was very cold in the dining area. Temps had dropped the night before so it was not adequately heated. Our server was excellent."

  • "Chef Charles & Co. Consistently deliver quality fare in a very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. We've been regulars for quite some time and will continue to be. It's especially recommended for those seeking lighter, healthier options always made with the freshest of ingredients. If you haven't been you owe it to yourself to check the place out soon"

  • "Made last-minute brunch reservations at this restaurant. It was very quiet, the staff was very attentive and friendly. I had the challah French toast. It was delicious! A great alternative to another highly-rated (and very busy!) Brunch restaurant, the West End Cafe"

  • "My wife and I visited Nashville for a concert. Due to our arrival and our schedule I made a reservation at 1808 Grille. I am glad we did. The service staff was very attentive. The selection if drinks and food was extremely manageable. Our waiter was informative and engaging. Our food was prepared perfectly. We will try and return when we come back to Nashville. We highly recommend patronizing this wonderful resteraunt."

  • "we eat in nashville when we cme to t-pac as season ticket holders. we explore different places to eat when we come.we have eaten at most of the fine restaurants, revisit the best. you are on that list. the bar was fun; but it did not match the dining experience. food was excellent; and our waiter could not have been better."

  • "The food was fair with good presentation. Service was very good! However..... DO NOT come hungry. Portion sizes are a bit of a joke unless you are a small woman who gets filled up on small portions. I knew I wasn't going to a lunch buffet.. but come on. However.. I do applaud our server who was excellent. The young guys working at the valet lost one guys keys and I waited for about 15 minutes outside to get my car. It seemed to be everyone's first night on the job, as they were lost as the gentlemen's keys."

  • "We were surprised to find this restaurant was located inside a hotel, but it's location does not classify it as a typical hotel restaurant. The ambiance was like having dinner in a lodge filled with leather and wood. We had the tuna tartar which was very nice. My in-laws had the egg drop soup which looked amazing...a whole egg poached and a side of sweet flavoring that you could introduce to the soup to your taste. I had the short ribs, which I had hoped would be more moist, but tasted good. My husband had the quail which was the best dish of the table. And the desert! We shared the peanut butter crunch and red velvet cake, though I leaned toward the peanut butter crunch (and I'm not a peanut butter kind of girl). Great find!"

  • "Located in the beautiful Hutton hotel, 1808 is dinning gem. A 1st class restaurant with superior wait staff and chef The short ribs are excellent along with the other great dishes served from the continental menu.Great brunch spot as well."

  • "I chose 1808 as a Thanksgiving alternative purely on the OpenTable profile. I was more than pleased - surprised even. A great fit in the growing Nashville foodie scene. I am especially fond of farm-to-table which went over well with my less adventurous Father. Great food, great people and a really cool hotel. I have to make an excuse to stay there next time i visit."

  • "This topped our list of favorite spots in Nashville. The tuna tartare was bursting with fresh, mouthwatering flavor, and the calamari was prepared in a way that showed just how good calamari can be. Both the quail and the short ribs were tender, with lick-your-plate decadent sauces. The sides came to the table in separate bowls, which was fun, but also showcased that your entrée was the real showstopper of the evening. The service was excellent but not overly attentive - we never had to once refill our own wine glasses. Speaking of, the wine list has a something for everyone, plus the bonus of an in-house sommelier if you need help with your selection. Dessert was equally as amazing - the churros are a must try! This was an absolute gem."

  • "My wife and I have eaten at 1808 several times because the restaurant is comfortable and beautiful. The food has always been good...appetizers good to very good, entrees good to okay. But generally the full meal has several foods that please palates, and bring us back. This time, I think was our last. The lighting has changed over the past few months, and it is too bright...maybe the new bulbs that last forever give it that unpleasant radiance. The main fish course was very good as was the salad. Here is my question, why provide the local veggies if they don't go with the meal. Ours were cous cous (sp?) with Indian spices I think, and two additional unpleasant tasting veggies. My space is exhausted. Simplicity would go a long way!"

  • "My wife and I love to try new places, and this was our first time at 1808 grille. The hostesses were friendly and sat us right away. There were multiple people tending to our table for various things (normal for fine dining), and everything was very timely. We had the short ribs and the scallops, with the Brandade to start. We picked a few glasses of wine to pair, and when the server came back, he told us that he was going to have us try some wines the sommelier had selected as well and let us choose. We both went with the sommelier's choices, which was great. He even came to the table to introduce himself and ask what we thought. Our only criticism was that the sauce the scallops were in was very sweet. Will come back again at some point!"

  • "Busy night on Valentine's day. Service was awesome from the complimentary Cava to getting us out the door on time for our concert at TPAC. Food was very satisfying and the originality was unique. I love this place and the hotel. A class act."

  • "Our party of 3 went for Saturday brunch. We had a reservation but it was unnecessary as there were only a couple of other occupied tables. We had to flag down someone to send them in search of our server in order to place a drink order. The server was a pleasant young man but clueless...he didn't remove empty glasses, forgot to bring our ordered drink refills until we again sent someone to find him, and was generally unavailable. Inexcusable, since the place was virtually empty. The food, however, was excellent. We will give the restaurant another try."

  • "Great restaurant! Stumbled upon it while searching for restaurants online. Didn't realize it was in a hotel, but it was very nice! Food was excellent. Our waiter was on point. Noticed when we needed things, but wasn't too over attentive. We would definitely recommend to others."

  • "This was our second visit to 1808, and we again had an excellent experience. The short ribs with Guinness reduction, cheese and horseradish is an outstanding dish, and the added side items are a nice touch."

  • "The food is absolutely terrific at 1808 Grille! The scallops with a parsnip puree were as delicious as any I've had, anywhere. Friends at our table were equally enthusiastic about the short rib and the evening's special. The atmosphere of the restaurant is, however, ruined by the grayish, too-bright light of the LED's in the ceiling. It would be better to turn them off entirely and light the restaurant only with lamps and candles. Truly, the lighting is atrocious. It gives everyone - and the food on the plates - a grayish, dead look. If you are sensitive to atmosphere in this way, you will hate the way it feels. If you don't know what I'm talking about - ignore the comment and enjoy a fantastic meal there!"

  • "My wife and I decided to go to Nashville for Valentines day the week before. I had a hard time finding a restaurant that was not fully booked. We found the 1808 on OpenTable and booked it. It was not an awful experience but disappointing. The food was not at the level expected and the staff was not knowledgeable or friendly. The menu was limited."

  • "We were so happy with our experience with the 1808 Grille. The food was fabulous but the wait staff was outstanding. They paid attention to your every need. It was truly the best experience we have had in Nashville."
