The service is always friendly and accommodating and the food as fresh and up to date as any of the newer hotter spots that you can't get into. The tables are not close together so it makes for a pleasant evening where you don't have to raise your voice to have a conversation."

  • "We're regular customers and just dined this past Saturday since the menu got updated. We were looking forward to tasting new head chef Jake Strang's touch on some things. Guess we'll have to keep waiting..? We tried the new items (apps, entrees, desserts) and all were truly unworthy of 1808, and if Jake given his past work here. Don't know what happened, but everything was under seasoned, luke warm, and basically uninspired & unpleasant. One of our apps was even fishy smelling. This is uncharacteristic & I hope the ship gets righted soon. We've been coming here since the place opened in '09 & hope to continue, but only if they up their game on the food. The service, wine, and atmosphere were stellar as usual, so no complaints there."

  • "Had 11:30 am reservations on Father's Day. Located in new Hutton Hotel on West End - separated from lobby by open bar. Modern decor, roomy. Pleasant wait staff. Tasty well prepared huge 3 egg omelet with generous sausages and creamy cheese grits. "1808 Skillet" was baked chunks of seasoned potatoes, a few slices of sausage, red peppers and topped with scrambled egg and white cheddar cheese (same cheese in grits). Generous portions and tasty, but pastry basket was very average (no comparison to pastries from Meridee`s in Franklin) and smoked salmon was generous size portion but otherwise unremarkable. Overall experience was pleasant and filling."

  • "I love the service at this restaurant. One of my pet peeves at restaurants is when servers start to clear the dishes before everyone is done eating--almost all restaurants to this. I find it rude. 1808 Grill does not do this, so makes me happy. Service is attentive and professional. It's quiet enough to hear conversation with dining companions. The shrimp cocktail was outstanding as was the beet salad. My husband's steak was not great. It was a cut he doesn't usually order because no filet on the menu. He didn't like the sauce either. He should have said something at the time. I'd go back, but I don't think he will. I have heard brunch is good though."

  • "Gnocchi & shrimp appetizers were good. However, the entrees were really disappointing! My husband ordered the crispy trout & I ordered the short ribs. I actually gasped when the server sat his trout on the table, the fish appeared as if it were flattened & was literally swimming in a miso sauce. Trout is not a strong fish and to be drowned like that was a culinary travesty. My short ribs were good but also swimming in a sauce that lacked depth & finesse. On top of the ribs the chef served a potato crochet that was smothered in a runny horseradish sauce that I had to remove from my plate because it completely over powered all others flavors on the plate. To add to this already underwhelming meal was the short pours in both our wine & cognac."

  • "The ambiance at 1808 Grille was really nice. Although it is a hotel restaurant, it really stands out by itself. We went on a Friday night and found it to be not too crowded with a pleasant bustle of people but not overly so. The drinks were fantastic, particularly their signature cocktail, and all the appetizers were fantastic. It's nice they have options for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters alike and I thought the cauliflower steak entree was one of the best vegan entrees I've eaten in a long time. My boyfriend was not a big fan of the slightly chewy/fatty strip steak but overall we had a great dinner. I would definitely recommend. "

  • "Sent here for lunch as we thought it would be a nice, healthy place near Vanderbilt where friends were visiting. Love the atmosphere and the noise level is such that you can actually hear your dining companions talk. However, the food was a great disappointment. We all ordered the chopped salad, wanting something light and healthy. The added chicked came fried, which is not at all a healthy choice, so the server should have said how the chicken was prepared. There were hardly any greens to speak of in the salad and way too many fruits. The menu was too limited as well. I felt that for a restaurant that touts itself as healthy, there should have been a lot of light choices as opposed to two options, only one of which was gluten free. "

  • "This is the best restaurant for business lunches I've found in Nashville. The food is excellent and the service is excellent. The tables are large enough so that you can take notes or show something in an iPad, laptop, etc... Most importantly for me, it is quiet. I have a hard time hearing people over background noise, especially if they have a soft voice."

  • "Had dinner Friday evening & everything from the wine, ambience, food, and especially service was terrific. We're regulars here but still find it enjoyable each & every time. One thing that delighted my palate was the mussels appetizer.... Highly recommended!! If you think you don't like mussels, please try again & get these. I'd bet they will change your mind! Looking forward to our next visit, and would suggest anyone who hasn't been make plans to do so now!"

  • "I've always been a fan of 1808 Grille and have visited there several times over the years before moving away to NYC. This weekend I was back in town and booked reservations here. My friends, who are locals, had never been to 1808, but absolutely loved the food! (as well as the ambiance and service). So it was neat to come back home and show some current Nashville Locals a "new" place they ended up loving!"

  • "We were in town for the marathon and randomly picked 1808 for dinner. The service was very slow and it took forever to get our food. The appetizers were just okay, although the pea soup I had was actually pretty good. My wife ordered the trout and 3 of us ordered steak. My wife's fish was okay, but it was under-cooked in parts. All 3 of our steaks came out significantly under-cooked (2 were to be medium and one was medium rare. All 3 came out very, very rare, in fact my son said his still had a pulse). We could never find our waiter to ask to have them recook the steaks, so we ate what we could and told the manager when he came by to see how things were.They were nice enough to take the steaks off the bill, but we will never return."

  • "It was our first time at 1808 and we had high expectations. The "Small Plates" were very good with the exception of Shabu Shabu. It was bland and mediocre. The main course menu was limited or not well written and all 4 in our party deferred to the Special, which was Halibut. It arrived looking like it had been plopped down in brown sauce. A one demensional taste that got old quickly. The desserts had mixed reviews. The Chocolate Mouse in a mason jar was a hit. The panna cotta was refreshing. The sophopilla in a bag were anything but a sophopillas! 1801, if you are going to put it on the menu, know what it is! They were heavy, dense fried donuts. Sophopillas are light, hollow and crisp delights. Won't go back for dinner. Maybe lunch. "

  • "My girlfriends and I had a delicious, nutritious, wonderful lunch here after running a race in Nashville. It was the perfect place to enjoy a healthy, fresh meal in a spacious, comfortable, contemporary environment, after running a half marathon. The service was professional but warm and friendly, and very accommodating. It was our first time in Nashville and I'd highly recommend to anyone who lives or is visiting the area. When we saw our bill, we were shocked at how reasonable the prices were. The quality of the food and service for the price was REALLY amazing!!! "

  • "I was very impressed with the food at 1808 Grille. For a busy Easter brunch, there was variety, freshness, and a little something for everyone. We loved the smoothie shooters. It was a nice surprise and delicious. Mango passion fruit was the best. Smoked salmon was delicious. We loved the variety of desserts and the presentation. The only issue we had was the service, which was sporadic at best. My major issue was with the 20% mandatory tip, which was excessive given the buffet nature of the brunch. We did not order from the bar, nor were we informed of the mandatory charge when we were called to confirm and told how much the buffet was. This will certainly factor into our decision about whether to return or not to 1808 Grille. "

  • "Staff is very attentive and pleasant if you give them a chance. Seemed like lots of folks were in a rush so they probably wouldn't care or notice. Brandade app was like fish hush puppies or croquettes. Definitely fishy tasting - not bad, but you should know. Sriracha sauce was a nice compliment. Tuna tartare was excellent - very light with nice flavor overall. Lastly, we had the butternut squash soup - squash pie on a bowl! This is a seasonal offering, which. is too bad, cause it was delicious. Would we go back? Absolutely There's enough left on the menu to try even before you get to the big plates."

  • "I had to book dinner for my boss and out of town business guests. That is always nerve racking because you are trying to please complete strangers! My boss actually sent me a text after dinner to say how wonderful everything was and the next time the people came back for a meeting in town they wanted to eat there again! They said the food was excellent and not over priced and the staff were very nice and friendly."

  • "The food was good and rather eclectic, but the menu is so limited I don't think I would go back. Ask about the chef choice of sides before you go. They come with the meal and if you don't like them, you're screwed. The short ribs and trout are good--get the chili sauce on the side."
